Are Newcastle Back In For Mevlut Erdinc?

Newcastle seem to be in a bit of a mess right now in their attempts to bring in a left back and a striker to the club.

Mevlut Erdinc – moving to Rennes?

Remember that’s to replace Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique, and the club received a total of £41M for those two players.

Newcastle’s two top targets at left back, Erik Pieters and Aly Cissokho seem too expensive, with Newcastle unwilling to meet the asking prices for both players, because they think those prices are inflated.

And it’s almost the same thing with their striker targets, with Newcastle unwilling to meet the asking price for PSG’s Mevlut Erdinc and Sochaux’s Modibo Miaga.

The Maiga deal would look like it’s dead in the water, after Sochaux reported Newcastle to FIFA for an illegal approach yesterday, and if the club are found guilty, it could be a fine or even something much worse, like a transfer embargo.

But we expect if Newcastle are found guilty they will get a fine.

Mevlut Erdinc is said to be close to joining Rennes, as PSG continue to spend big money in the transfer market this summer, unlike some other club we know well.

Newcastle could well go after Erdinc again, if he is indeed on the verge of moving from PSG, and Newcastle have been kept up to date with the recent developments by the Paris based club.

But Newcastle have refused to meet the fee PSG have asked for Erdinc, and we’re not sure if Newcastle can therefore be successful in signing him, even if they went in for the Turkish International once again.

But it would be interesting if he did move to Rennes, and that small French club could afford the 23 year-old, and Newcastle couldn’t.

And it looks like Nile Ranger may be close to completing a proposed move to Birmingham City very soon.

But whatever happens with Erdinc, Newcastle must bring in a new top striker and they have one week to do just that.

Comments welcome.

I know this sounds stupid but would anyone buy a proper striker followed by Adam Le Fondre and Sam Baldock?
Le Fondre has always been quality enough for a top championship team. I would love to see if he could manage the gap to the premier league. And Baldock has 5 in 5 so far this season. Wouldn’t mind him coming in. He’s a youngster and looks good when playing tough opposition in the cup.

Le Fondre could go for about 400k and Baldock about 500k. And they are both just as good as Wickham and Rodriguez in my eyes

Why not go back in for Erdinc, He was one of our main targets earlier on, Now he’s down the pecking order at PSG he has realised that if he wants first team footy he has to move on. Surely now that he seems to want to move, the deal could be done a lot easier. But this is Newcastle and the way things are done here now, God knows what’s really gonna happen.

Well he was 3rd choice behind Gamiero and Gervinho so makes sense.Gamiero is scoring for fun and Gervinho looks like a great player,so in Carr we trust.
I wonder how Graham actually feels when he keeps finding gems and ashley doesn’t pay the money. It must be soul destroying.

Starting to think we’re in for bloody nobody!

I’ve been saying all summer to wait til the end of the window but seriously, with all the money we have we should’ve had a left back in before Enrique left and we should’ve had a striker in by the sunderland game at the latest.

We want players but dont want to pay for them.

if we are chasing two targets in each position this close to the window shutting we need to single out one in each lb and ctr for and get them in cos we all know what happens when you try to chase two rabbits.

I can see his point but I disagreed that Obertan was the future of the club at this point. Haha Pieters and Sturridge we will see mate. Reckon Carr recommended Pieters because it has pie in the name and it would attrack Ashley…just a thought

    Stuart
Haha fair one mate but there will be a spot ready for you and your pitch fork with us when the window shuts next week

We HAVE NOT received £41m for AC & JE.

AC was £30m up front and the rest in ad-ons.

So, we have only received £36m.

I don’t see why that fact clouds everyone’s judgement, why should we pay over the odds for players now just coz we have a bit of cash?

Northern Echo has this paragraph in it, which I find intriguing:

“Whatever happens, Newcastle will travel to Scunthorpe tomorrow without a new addition to the ranks, indeed they could even be a striker down if Nile Ranger completes his proposed move to Birmingham City in the next 24 hours.”

Did anyone else know Ranger was in talks with Brum?

Over the odds? 15mill max (when we have 36mill in the bank) for 2 internationals who are highly rated both within our club and the world? I dont see that as over the odds….I see it as under them to be honest

Surely the sale of our highest earners is all leading to the freeing up of wage space for at least two top players…

I feel like Oliver Twist to the FCB’s hand… please sir can we have some more signings – bit pathetic really buy a wise man once said we are all prisoners to our own passions – mine being NUFC

I mentioned last week that i had the pleasure of talking to peter beardsley about Erdinc ,and he said that we were still in for him he had already agreed terms over a potential move and Newcastle had originally agreed a fee of 7 million with PSG ,only for them to move the goalposts and ask for a bigger transfer fee

    @shear-class @ 33

That backs up my point of paying over-inflated fees!

Erdinc was at £6m and Pieters at £4m,
We were offering good prices at £7m and £4.5m respectively, then all of a sudden prices increased.
