Newcastle seem to be in a bit of a mess right now in their attempts to bring in a left back and a striker to the club.
Mevlut Erdinc – moving to Rennes?
Remember that’s to replace Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique, and the club received a total of £41M for those two players.
Newcastle’s two top targets at left back, Erik Pieters and Aly Cissokho seem too expensive, with Newcastle unwilling to meet the asking prices for both players, because they think those prices are inflated.
And it’s almost the same thing with their striker targets, with Newcastle unwilling to meet the asking price for PSG’s Mevlut Erdinc and Sochaux’s Modibo Miaga.
The Maiga deal would look like it’s dead in the water, after Sochaux reported Newcastle to FIFA for an illegal approach yesterday, and if the club are found guilty, it could be a fine or even something much worse, like a transfer embargo.
But we expect if Newcastle are found guilty they will get a fine.
Mevlut Erdinc is said to be close to joining Rennes, as PSG continue to spend big money in the transfer market this summer, unlike some other club we know well.
Newcastle could well go after Erdinc again, if he is indeed on the verge of moving from PSG, and Newcastle have been kept up to date with the recent developments by the Paris based club.
But Newcastle have refused to meet the fee PSG have asked for Erdinc, and we’re not sure if Newcastle can therefore be successful in signing him, even if they went in for the Turkish International once again.
But it would be interesting if he did move to Rennes, and that small French club could afford the 23 year-old, and Newcastle couldn’t.
And it looks like Nile Ranger may be close to completing a proposed move to Birmingham City very soon.
But whatever happens with Erdinc, Newcastle must bring in a new top striker and they have one week to do just that.
