Sylvain Marveaux signed for Newcastle United earlier this summer on a free transfer, as Newcastle seemed to get him at the very last moment, and after he had had medical at Liverpool.
Sylvain Marveaux – will make debut against Scunthorpe
The fact that Liverpool wanted to sign him shows he is a very decent player, but he’s been injured since last October, with a knee injury and he’s also had some groin problems since then too.
But now, after some good work from the Newcastle medical staff, it seems that Sylvain is ready to play for the first team, and he’s likely to start tomorrow night at Scunthorpe.
That will be a big chance for the classy winger to show what he has to offer Newcastle, but there’s little doubt this lad has lots of skill, and will possibly be pushing Jonas Gutierrez for that left wing spot on the team this season.
That’s assuming Jonas is still at Newcastle come September of course, and you never know what may happen in this last week of the transfer window, as clubs make their final moves.
The Frenchman seems an excellent professional, and has waited very patiently for his chance at Newcastle, and the 25 year-old talked to the local Newcastle press today:
“It is a long time not to play football for any player. But I played 90 minutes last week.” “Training is good but I need games and get to grips with English football.”
“The most important thing is not to rush. You always want to play but you must be careful. The medical staff have done a great job.”
“I have been here a while now and I have been working hard to be fit and ready. I am ready now. The derby game was great, I wanted to get on but it was OK because the team did a great job.”
“And we won for the fans, it was great for them and the atmosphere from the fans was amazing.” “I’ve never seen anything like that in France – it was great.”
Newcastle have an important game tomorrow night at Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup, and we have to hope the lads can play well, and reach the third round in that competition, because we need to do much better in the Cup competitions this season.
Sylvain talked about the Carling Cup”
“We want to go as far as we can in the competition. We have a large group and everybody wants to play.” “Every game we have to approach and try to win – I am more than happy to be involved in this match.”
“I have not heard of Scunthorpe. But we have looked at some videos and the manager has told us a lot about them.”
“It is more like the FA Cup, the League Cup in France is more for teams in the higher divisions not lower divisions. This will be more like an FA Cup game.”
“In France it is the same as England, a smaller team will beat the bigger team.” “We have to be ready for that – we want to get through.” “We have to respect Scunthorpe.”
“They will be motivated to beat us and we have to be ready for that.” “I have experienced upsets in France, it happens. It happened with Rennes once or twice in cup games.”
There have already been some big shocks in the Carling Cup, with Sunderland going out 1-0 at Brighton, after losing the previous game to their rivals in the north east – Newcastle United!
Sunderland’s Geordie manager Steve Bruce will now be under a little pressure, so early in the season for those two successive defeats.
And QPR lost 2-0 at home to Rochdale, which is why they are now reported making an attempt to sign Joey Barton on a free transfer from Newcastle.
If that news today is true that Joey is in talks with QPR, we think it’s very likely he will sign on for the London club, if they can offer him a good four year deal.
And newly promoted Norwich lost 4-0 at home to Milton Keynes Dons in the Carling Cup yesterday, and Swansea City lost 3-1 at Shrewsbury Town.
We do not want to see Newcastle a casualty at Scunthorpe, and that’s why we think Pardew will field a good side, in a competition that’s the easiest one for Newcastle to win, and get our first trophy in 43 years.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #41so, at the peak last season how many players did we have injured? 6? 8?
imagine if we had 6 players out now? we’d be foooked. the fact is after what happened last season we were expecting to increase both quality and quantity and in my opinion we’ve gone down in both.

Tiote and Ba need to play, they need the game time.
I would like to see us try Ba & Best upfront, our best two strikers at the minute IMO.

Comment #46@Baso – I do hope BA can get a good run tomo as he needs a goal or at least a few chances… I think once he finds his feet – we will have a right striker on our hands… I am, for one, keeping the faith…
plus has anyone seen Ameobi on MTV Cribs? Its classically funny 🙂 See the article on his house on the Chron here: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/evening-chronicle-news/2011/08/24/shola-ameobi-s-plush-jesmond-pad-up-for-sale-72703-29293437/?

Comment #47I don’t think joey will go to QPR. I think he will talk to wind up FCB and co, and then reject them.

Comment #48Jonas SHOULD be our right winger. He likes to cut inside, and he is a naturally right footed player, so he would(hopefully) be able to produce a decent final ball with his right peg.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I do agree with all of your comments about Barton.
I think he’s been an embarrassment for far too long at this club and I think the place (not the team) will be better for his departure.
However, it brings the question, “Will we replace him, as it’s ANOTHER body down on the squad?”
Unfortunately we all know the answer to that one don’t we?

‘Tiote and his family are happy due to the 6 year contract hence why he is playing sh*te’
He did not get of to a great start for us when we bought him, got caught on the ball a few times and made sloppy passes, just like he is now. It took him 3-4 games before he showed us all that he is absolutely immense in midfield, give him time, he will get his sharpness back soon enough.

Comment #54Dont be silly Wynsleap, there will always be an 18 yr old French guy to take on trial, or maybe a guy coming to the end of his contact, currently earning no more than 20K a week . Its easy!! 🙁

Comment #59but we are constantly becoming a better team and moreover, club are we not? Bartons antics can only go on so long. 4 points from two tough opening fixtures and everyone is STILL going on about the owners.
Every bit of banter on here is littered with idiots comments about things they know nothing of, like what Ashleys willing to spend, what his policy is etc and then this is supplemented by other mongs chipping in with idle threats like boycotting newcastle games etc. We are doing well, we are improving all the time. With us all fully behind the team who knows what we could achieve. maybe even stop the press from ridiculing us. unfortunately it is you, the mongs who do this club a disservice, not ashley, not pardew.. you.
please do everyone a favour and go and support ambitious sunderland who will spend as much money on shite as you want them to season in and season out
