It seems that Joey Barton, as we had expected earlier today, is leaving Newcastle.
Joey Barton – bye bye Newcastle
He has just tweeted that he doesn’t want to leave Newcastle, but with not being offered a new contract his hands are tied.
This is what Joey said on his twitter account a few moments ago.
Don’t want to leave Newcastle……..I’ve made that clear but my hands are tied.
Going for a medical now, still no contract offer from NUFC……. think that just about makes my mind up.
Joey was always in a difficult position with just one year left on his Newcastle contract, as he wants to get some security for his future in football.
When we heard the news this morning that he was speaking to the London club, it seemed that he would be offered a decent contract by them since they have money to spend, and if that happened, Joey would have little choice but to accept it.
It seems that both West Ham and Stoke City tried to get Joey today too, but we expect the contract Joey was offered by QPR to be one he could hardly turn down.
In his tweets he’s making it clear he has had no contract offer from the Newcastle club, and he seems to be even hinting he would like one.
We would have loved for Joey to stay for this season, because he is a proven Premier League class player, but it was not to be.
Unfortunately, that means that of the five players Alan Pardew wanted to have Newcastle sign on long term contracts in mid-January, only one remains at the club – Cheick Tiote.
Andy Carroll, Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Joey have all left, assuming Joey passes the medical tonight and signs the contract. Those are four of Newcastle’s very best players of the last two seasons.
It will be very interesting to see if Newcastle replace Joey Barton in the one week left in the transfer window.
Comments welcome.

Comment #82Thump – granted davybtoon swarms around these posts like a demented happy fly but I expected more for you.
We are allowed to be critical of a player/s leaving aren’t we? Not least that it illustrates a trend within the club to turf out the steady eddies and replace with cheaper options.
Voicing dissatisfaction upon relegation – is a bit like wondering where you life raft is after the ice berg’s hit. It may sound pointless now, trust me it’s totally funking pointless then.
People on here twist things for their own agenda, now it’s barton bashing, last week jose, last month nolan, etc. apparently I’m negative for not accepting implicitly that unknown players will be future stars- or at least the equal of those departing.

I dont think we are crap but I dont think we have progressed in anyway compared to last season however the sum of our parts were greater than the whole last season and I dont know if that will be the same this season considering not just what has happened but how it has happened

I agree with you too mate. We all lose, but these people are looking for any excuse this season. If we lose one game, it’s Ashley’s fault. If we lose 2 games it’s Ashley’s fault. If we win a game, it’s just lucky because we have such a ‘shit’ squad we should get relegated.
Too many pesimistic fans. Can’t you guys just support your club for once? =/

Right u are.
The only wrong thing Pardew has done is making promises he cannot keep. Chris was good at avoiding that, playing down speculation always, as Pardew has played them up, just by answering the questions simply.
It’s deluded to say anything else.
If it was up to me, Pardew should say “no comment” a bit more often.

Comment #92All respect for Barton for what he has done, but I agree with what people have said about a better squad coming up lets run it this way.
Ba = He’s not been on form yet, but then when he’s had his injuries I think he will eventually step up. We need a striker soon would like it to be him.
Cabaye = Looks gutsy and hungry to start, he might seem slow at first but that shot and the one before the derby seemed like crackers. Looks promising. A suitible replacement for Barton
Abeid = Not seen much apart from his assists and the match at crew, seems decent.
Marveux = Hasn’t kicked a ball in a couple years but looked decent, will see what happens tomorrow.
Gosling = I know he’s not new but he’s been out the action for a while and looks like he desperately wants to make up for it at the derby he should of scores, can work attacking or on the right midfield.
Obertan = Pacy and flairy, would like to see more of him and hope he lives up to his hype.
Hatem Ben Arfa= Everton goal… nuff said. He will recover give him time a broken leg isn’t exactly something you can run off without getting a niggle after to begin with.
Then we got some decent youngsters coming through with Vuckic, Sammy (who looks like no messabout like Shola atm), Kazenga, Phil Airey, Kadar, Ferg
And members like Saylor, Raylor, Colo, Simmo, Tiote, Gutti, Best, all seemingly improving. I still have alot of faith in our squad. One man doesn’t make a team. We just need to build it up. With or without Barton.
Sorry for the rant just trying to be a bit optimistic.

Comment #94Lads, don’t tell anybody but I think Mr. Newbrick is Paddy McCourt’s agent.
@boater: I’m not sure you read anything I’ve said. There’s a yawning gulf of difference between being critical of a player (who in this instance very much deserves the fans wrath) and talking about how Barton’s leaving will be the loose string that will dismantle the team.

Comment #95wwjbd – but ppl questioned team spirit n since the start of the season i think hav proved thats still there, yes the new players will need time to adjust to our league but they will b class when they do, cabaye already showing glimpes of what he can do
we hav lost some good players but r we worse no were already 1point better off than last season n 2points better off from the same 2 fixtures last season

No matter how you analyse our players. There is no proof that we are a better team nor can we say we are worse. Only time will tell. Bottomline is, we need a left back and a new forward or we might struggle.

I think u’re right, currently, with the missing Striker and LB, we aren’t better than last year. But we’re not worse either tbh, apart from the fact that we don’t have an LB.
I think the Joey departure will speed that up a bit now tbh.
There’s almost a 50/50 split between those who wants Joey to stay and those who are Happy/fine to see him go.
Only new players in could change that tbh.
Our midfield is fine, we still just need that LB and Striker, then hopefully fix it some more in January/next summer.

Another fan of Obertan? Tis nice to see, I think he has real talent, but is settling in getting first team football, he looked rusty in the Derby game and seemed to be man marked for the entire game, but I do think he will shine for us this season.

Comment #102I put Van Persie in my dreamteam. Kind of regretting that now though. >.> Hope he hits the form he had last season. He was injured for most last season but the last 10 games he scored a load of goals. I’m actually rooting for Van Persie [if he’s playing] tonight, he’s a star player.

Comment #109davy I think me and you are destined to disagree until MA is gone mate haha
I dont think the spirit and drive within the team is as strong as the leaders of it are now mostly gone and each one left under a huge shadow. Every player in the squad will look at that and think ‘is this what I have to look forward to?’ whilst all wondering ‘will there be any investment in this team I am playing for? I want to win things’

Imo, Cole is only being linked cause press thinks Pards will panic buy. I think we won’t bring anyone in instead of panic buy.
I still have faith in the right players coming in.
But a week left? That is down to the wire indeed, and it is unsettling i must admit.
Cmon Pards, get the cogwheels movin, we need bodies man.

Haha! I’m not to say as a fan of him, I just believe he has some potential like all our squad. Some people will neg my comments no matter what I say. I just wanna be optimistic.
@ilovetoon8788
I know what you mean, but in a sense we have the potential I just think we need to gel and just support the team through what’s happening I can’t see us signing anyone this window unless it’s a loan. Our strike force may not seem bad, but it could be worse. Goals won’t manifest out of nothing I know this but I can see goals coming out of the strikers we do have.

One of life’s character
A fighter in more than one sense of the word
A good footballer not a great one – inconsistent in form and in dead balls
I am not sad to see him go – he causes to many problems, but I thank him for fighting for the cause of NUFC – whatever he is you can’t deny his effort when on the pitch.
Now Ashley – you have no excuse to bring in the players we need – how about two strikers now Joey has gone and a LB. Erdinc and Maiga would be nice! Then I woke up.

Comment #119Barton is sadly a lot cleverer than many of our fans. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s been angling for it for ages with his never ending tweets. He now gets a huge signing on fee.
If he does to us what he did to city, he’ll make us pay a signing off fee as well. Barton does the badge kissing a treat but Joey has always looked after number 1.
Has anyone actually seen the audited accounts of NUFC. We’re still in debt. I think Ashley is an odious man, but he is a far better business man than any of us us.

Imho I rate Ba and Best higher than him, Ba showed who was the better last season. He wouldn`t bring anything at all to the team we lack speed up front height we have plenty.
