Joey Barton In Talks With QPR – Likely To Sign

News is breaking that Joey Barton has been given permission to talk with Queens Park Rangers.

Joey Barton – taxi! – to QPR?

Tony Fernandes, the new owner of Queens Park Rangers, will be wanting to make a splash in the transfer market and because of that we think he may offer Joey a good deal and the Liverpudlian could be gone.

QPR new manager Neil Warnock has been given money to spend, and it’s in the tea leaves that QPR could offer Joey quite a good contract.

We hate to say this, but it looks to us like Joey could have played his last game for the Newcastle club, and against  Sunderland no less.

Fernandes, who is a  co-owner of  The Team Lotus,  bought a 66% stake in the West London club on Thursday for around £35M, and has pledged a further £10M to invest immediately.

Some of that could go to Barton’s wages since he will cost nothing, and the fact that Joey is in talks with the London club, suggests they have mentioned a possible deal and he’s interested.

Fernandes has set his first priority on Premier League survival, and there’s no doubt that Barton would be a tremendous buy for them.

If Joey leaves it means that Newcastle’s best four players, Andy Carroll,  Kevin Nolan, Jose Enrique and Joey Barton have all left the club in the last eight months.

There’s nothing quite as depressing as losing your best players – for whatever reasons.

It will now be interesting to see if Newcastle try to bring in a replacement for Barton, and we think if they do, the likely target will be Swiss International  Tranquillo Barnetta

But with one week Newcastle will need to improve their track record this summer, if they are to bring any players in before a week come Thursday.

Of course, as usual we are assuming this news is true, but we’ll know soon enough.

Comments welcome.

This is on SSN, which scares me… however, i have faith in Barton, and think he will see out the final year to prove his loyalty, after all, he’s a smart man and said he “Doesn’t want to leave Newcastle” if he does, he’s a hypocrite and he knows it…

@All – Dont listen to SSN. I have firm reports that the main media man for them is one of the unwashed and loves to kick the boot into NUFC when he can or his team can. Its all fluff… although as i said I still think FAT SAM could convince him – Champions league or not.

Well certainly looks likw we’ll be losing Barton, another regular starter from our squad. Don’t worry though we’ll have a plan in place and should be able to bring in a replacement by August 31st, 2015.

Hey, Toon cant have it both ways.

They tell him he will not be offered a Contract, They tell him he is free to leave the club; They tell him they don’t want him.

The Manager wants him, but he has no more say than we do.

If QPR or any EPL club offer him a 3 year deal or better; on similar money to what he gets now – he would be a mug to turn it down and Joey is NO mug!!

I am 90% confident we will sign a LB, probably pieters.

The striker however I am now 50% confident. It could be a very stark reality that we will not sign anyone before the window shuts.

Ashley really needs to pull this one out the bag to prove he will spend the cash. If he does then we will have signed Arfa (prev window), Cabaye, Marveaux, Obertan, Ba, Pieters and CF (Erdinc or Maiga) in the last 8 months as well as a raft of promising youngsters.

I would be well satisfied with that, even if Barton goes (I agree he is a liability and may even prevent players signing). Then it’s a case of gelling the team and getting a good run going.

However I am wanting to see how cabaye could do if he was taking set pieces and controlling the play like he did a lille…..but I dont want to do it at the expense that we lose a good player and dont bring anyone in ala jose

In fairness… Barton made the ‘leave for a champions league club + want to stay at newcastle forever’ BEFORE the club terminated his contract, transfer listed him and forced him to train with 15 year olds.

Let me get this in now – don’t call him a hypocrite if he goes – the situation has changed drastically around him..

Bartons ego is too big to go to QPR surely. I think it would be pretty embarrasing for him saying hes the best midfielder in England then moving to a newly promoted team.

We still have enough midfielders. Also Joey’s wages may free up a bit of space to get in some players we actually need.

Couldn’t really blame him for leaving like.
He hates Ashley as much as us by the looks of things.

His missus is expecting there first child In a few months & he isn’t gonna get a new contract here.

Plus the fact he will probly get a 5 year contract on huge ££££££££££££ at qpr.
