News today that Newcastle are linked with another French striker, Nolan Roux.
Nolan Roux – 23 year-old Stade Brest striker
The 23 year-old Roux is said to have one of those release clauses in his contract at his current club Stade Brest, and can leave when another club offers £8M for him.
The 23-year-old has been offered to the Newcastle club, probably because they know the Magpies need a striker desperately, and may daft enough to pay the £8M.
We’re not at all sure this player is good enough for Newcastle, but we have never seen him play, although he has one cap at the French U21 level.
Nolan has played 62 times for Stade Brest with 21 goals and is the son of former professional player Bruno Roux, who is currently the manager of amateur club AFC Compiègne.
It seems to us that Newcastle are looking at a number of options in these last six days of the transfer window, but we’d be very surprised, make that shocked, if Mike Ashley would pay out £8M for a player completely unproven.
We’ll not say Newcastle are getting desperate, but its starting to look that way, and what have they been doing over the last few months?
We should expect Newcastle to be linked with numerous players over these last six days of the transfer window, and we’d be stunned if Newcastle are interested in Roux.
So now I’ve said that, Newcastle will probably sign the lad, so does anybody know how good he is?
Comments welcome.

Comment #6What we have been doing Ed is trying to bring in players. Gameiro was a long one. As was Gervinho and Erdinc. Then there was Neil Taylor. Followed by Barnetta. Recently there has been Maiga and Cissoko. But it looks like Pieters and Roux will be the two 🙂

Pieters and Roux will be the two? Why because they are the current ones we are linked with? Haha

Comment #12Never seen him play but dont ask me why but have a feeling if we get him he would be the next Luque. Its annoying how we can get Pieters an international LB for 6m but a uncapped striker with not a great record costs 8million. Thats why i think buying strikers is too risky.
I read this book once called “why england lose – and other curious football phenomenom” and there was a transfer guide and it had about 8 points on how to make transfers sensibly. I cant remember what the points were but i think MA has read it and started doing exactly what it said.
I’ll write the points down in a bit 🙂

Comment #13I’m so happy we dont spend any money and get rid of all of our best overpaid players. We concentrate on youth until they come good and sell them to make our owner money, whast wrong with that. All businesses should be profitable, why should football be any different. We give players who have had injury worries another chance not because their free but because thet have so much potential. If our players don’t like our lack of ambition then they can sod off cause that means they don’t want to play for us which makes them not good enough. All hail the king, Mike Ashley.

Comment #27Cant wait to see some of the youngsters play tonight. For those that dont know…im like the peado of the footballing world. If it was up to me our starting 11 vs Scunny would be all youth and there is nothing i like more than seeing a good young player coming.
With that my team for scunny would be
Soderberg
Dummet Situ Kadar Ferguson
Abeid Gosling Vuckic Moyo
Ranger Sammy

Comment #29C’mon Ed…. you’ve fallen into the cunningly set trap that makes you believe we’re getting desperate in our search for players. You’re not alone as many are beleiving we’re incompetent!
But, its a brilliant strategy devised by Ashley and his more than able no 2, Llambias – a cunning plan to sneak up on clubs’ blind sides and have them feel sorry for us – thus getting the sympathy vote and most importantly, finding out just how greedy the selling clubs are!!
It’s all for the good of the game Ed.

Comment #35People mentioned Nolan Roux ages ago, well before we were linked to him. Saying he was class up and coming striker.
Now we are linked to him its all ‘Poor record’, ‘Un proven’, ‘French league is easier’, ‘NUFC are desperite’
I think he is the same as when his name was first mentioned, a class up and coming player.
Main thing is, he is better than most of the strikers we have!

Comment #36Barry- Of the players who’ve left I feel Enrique will be missed but if we get in a top quality left back that won’t bother me too much, Nolan slowed down the side and often went missing, he was a good captain no doubt, but unless he scored (which fair enough he did a lot while carroll was here) then he had little impact on the game. I feel that we have midfield players who at least offer what he offers. Barton similar, I think Barton’s a good player but not outstanding and the problems he’s caused currently and in the past most people would prefer away from the club if possible, i’m very 50/50 on him because he does free up wages, his style of play was more like our old style of play (long ball) as well as stifling cabaye’s style (ala the lampard gerrard situation for england) and he was a PR nightmare, however he played his role with full effort and did it well often so on that side he will be missed. I think you’ve missed the point on the frees, if we were signing frees for frees sake we could have attracted some appauling players, however we’ve done our research and realised that the likes of Mervauex and Gosling are very good players that if fully fit or fully priced would have gone to bigger clubs, but because big clubs spend money willy nilly and need to retain their position they want to get a player who can come in instantly. In the position we are in we are building slowly so getting players of that quality is more important than if they can play instantly. Thats my view anyway.

Comment #39Rich @31 you only do that when you a running t oa tight budget – h8 to mention it but we are making shad loads of cash every window and I for one would like to see some of it spent on a player that fits the bill – not one thats quite a good fit but in the proce range.
Like I keep saying how can any TRUE Supporter be happy when finance is put above success??????

Comment #40JB – but we pull out as soon as it gets near to a deal been done – or of couurse go after players outside our real scope
