There is more news today that Newcastle are in advanced talks with 20 year-old Inter Milan defender Davide Santon.
Davide Santon – looks an excellent young player
We had reported interest in this player last Saturday, and the reports seem to be persistent, so perhaps the news may even be true.
Davide has been interesting a number of Premier League clubs, but the most recent report suggests Newcastle are the club at an advanced stage in the negotiations, and could bring the young Italian International full back to Newcastle.
The fee is said to be around £10M, but that’s probably a glorified guess at best, but his lad has already played 51 times for Inter Milan, and can play in either full-back position, so that would be an advantage to Newcastle.
Maybe Newcastle can shock us all and bring both Erik Pieters and Santon in, and that would put pressure on Danny Simpson at right back, and certainly improve the competition for places in the full back positions.
Santon was given his Inter Milan debut by Jose Mourinho back in the 2009/2010 season, and marked Cristiano Ronaldo in a Champions League game with Manchester United, and the youngster did remarkably well.
The youngster has played 7 times for Italy, and all the Italian Youth sides, and 12 times for the Italy U21 side, and he has been at Inter Milan since he was 16 years-old, and has played 51 times for the Milan giants.
He joined Ravenna Calcio, based in Calcio, when he was he was a 10 year-old and the full-back has spent the last six months on loan at Cesena, where he played 11 times.
Santon was at one time considered to be the natural successor to Paolo Maldini, but things have not gone well for the lad this year, and he has been out on loan to get games.
This player looks very good, and the reports suggest he is interested in joining Newcastle, although Roma and Schalke 04 are also said to be interested, but the 20 year-old fits perfectly the type of player Newcastle are looking to sign and bring to Tyneside.
We hope these reports are true, because he would seem to be an excellent acquisition for the club, and it would be even better if Newcastle also signed Erik Pieters.
