The performance last night by Newcastle side had a lot in it to make Newcastle fans just a little bit concerned.
Not many happy Newcastle faces on the sidelines last night
But there were also some good, and even great performances from some of the youngsters like Tim Krul, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic, and things probably evened out between that terrible first half performance and Newcastle’s play after the interval.
And since the lads won the game, the overall feeling today is positive, and we are through to the next round and will be in the hat for tomorrow’s draw, and maybe we can get Aldershot, Shrewsbury or Rochdale at home?
Alan Pardew has admitted things were not all great last night, and he certainly looked a frustrated man through most of last night, until Ryan Taylor scored another great goal from a free kick on 80 minutes to level the scores at 1-1.
This is what Alan said today about last night:
“They are always tough nights. It is easy for the fans and the media to think we would come here and just get a 3-0 or 4-0 victory.”
“None of the sides from the Premier League have sailed through this week. At home it is different.” “Scunthorpe could not come to St James’ Park and do that.”
“It was a harder game – and harder than probably Fulham’s game was in the Ukraine.” “In the first half, you needed to have the application to play here and we did not have that.”
“We struggled and we were lucky to go in at 1-0 down, but in the second half we were brilliant.” “What could have been a negative night for me as the manager turned out to be positive.”
“We won the game, we are in the hat, three or four players were outstanding and the subs made an impact.” “I thought tactically we needed to change.” “We pushed three up top and tried to pin back their back four.
“That seemed to work and restricted their full-backs and we started to dominate.” “We should have won it in normal time. We had chance after chance in the second half.”
“We should not have needed Tim’s dynamic saves because the game should have been won by then.”
These games are always tough ones for whatever reason, but Newcastle are not the first team to struggle against lower league opposition this season, and it’s especially difficult away from home on a narrow pitch.
Sunderland and Swansea both lost away games to lower league opposition, and QPR and Norwich even lost at home to lower league opposition.
And now the three promoted sides to the Premier League are all out of the Carling Cup in their very first games, and of course their priority will be on staying in the Premier League this season.
It’s a real pity Sunderland were beaten at Brighton – no – I don’t mean that – just kidding.
😀

Comment #43Alan Pardew – It Was A Tough Night!
Hummmmm i wonder why this was, is it because…
need better strikers than best & ba full stop.
need not just 1 deffender but 2 with watching simpson RB for how many games now and never improved and obviously a LB,and also letting go to many good players
if barton goes then thats the last of newcastle to have fire in the stomachs coz thats what barton give us.
Its easily sorted mike pardew and co,so f****g do it

Comment #44So, after only his 3rd appearance off the bench, Vuckic the widely touted wonderkid has been pronounced as shite by the mackems.

Comment #45The starting eleven last night certainly looked a bit ‘rusty’ in places. Ba does not look up for it to me, but great performances from Colo, Raylor, Saylor, Cabaye. Marveaux and Gosling with more playing time will be great. Of the subs Sammy and Vuckic are real talents in the making. Best is our best striker and worked his socks off. MOTM ? … No contest, Tim Krul. But, if we want to become a top club in this country, please AP, knock the ‘hoofball’ on the head. We lost possession too often last night because of it. What we need is a Peter Beardsley , Len White type of character to put the ball in the net.

Comment #50Felipe…..you’re embarrassing yourself using that term “Mackem”…use it in the correct context and not as a derogatory term for NUFC fans who happen to disagree with your viewpoint….as it happens, I haven’t seen enough of Vuckic to form an opinion either way!

Comment #51@wwjbd: Just read back through your civilised comments on here and all you’ve done is had a cheap shot at and pretty much ripped up every player on the team. Constructive, not. Can only imagine a mackem wanting to do that…

Comment #53Felipe….WWJBD has always been civil on here and has shown a damned sight more patience and control than I have on occasions when confronted by the bile that gushes out of your poison mouth. He’s talking football opinions and you can’t see past your Ashley glasses.

Comment #54Haha constructive? Do you think the players read this and decide where they can improve? Oh you do make me smile lad (a real mackem smile according to you no doubt)
Oh it is so difficult when people do agree completely with you isnt it Felipe…I wonder how you make it through your days

Comment #56@Solano: If he was really talking football opinions about his own team there would be some balance to his comments and not totally ripping apart most if not all toon players. Same as you Solano, I therefore conclude you must be mackems cause in all my time as a toon supporter I have NEVER met a toon fan who would do that to his own team. NEVER!

You mustnt of met many mags then mate because you go out and talk to anyone about football and every single one of them will have comments that are against certain players and their styles. Hell we wont last night and in the pub I was in all the chat was how poor the squad looked
Even at St James most of the comments are pointing out flaws….maybe its different at the Stadium of Light

Comment #61There’s no doubt that our defence has been our best asset so far (never thought I’d say that!) and last night Colo was immense, he looks better than ever this season. Saylor was solid when he came on, as ever. Cabaye was decent, Marveaux looked unfit but his potential shone through, Vuckic was good in an understated sort of way, Gosling was very up and down for me. We were lame up front, Lovernkrands made some good runs but was wasteful with the ball. Sammy made a big impact (thank God, we needed it) but Ba was very disappointing. I really hope he can get a goal soon as his confidence will be taking a battering.

Comment #62WWJBD…since your conversion to the “enlightened darkside” it is a term that the happy clappers will sling at you. They also come out with chestnuts like “If you don’t like it…f**k off and support Man City” …as I got lastnight.
I’ll be sticking around though, just so I can see the day when these people wake up and see that they are completely and utterly wrong in backing the custodian of OUR club.
To be free-thinking, critical and ambitious for the club is a crime in the blinded eyes of the Thought Police like Felipe and co.

Comment #65‘the bile that gushes out of your poison mouth’
lol, too true Solano, too true. Also good point, who tends to read the Shields Gazette? You tell us Felipe, since you have all the answers. I’ve said it again and again but I don’t believe you can fully understand what it is to be a Geordie if you are able to call another Mag that name. Evidence is pointing more and more towards you being that which you so freely call others, try thinking, reflecting. observing and then constructing sensible, cohesive points instead of lashing out when you can’t come back with any form of argument.

Haha someone said go support Man City? Haha thats pretty good. Tbh this lad is the first I have ever had taken such a disliking to my opinions that he called me a Mackem….but tbh if a Mackem is what I have to be called for seeing the bigger picture then its a badge I will wear with a smile
I want NUFC to progress as a club (not instantly but through growth and investment) and I want the players to show their style which last night they didnt.
I cant wait for the day Ashley sells up Newcastles will have a ambitious future again 😀

Comment #74@wwjbd 69: And you think poisoning the armosphere around the club with your constant attacks on players and management is going to contribute to progress as a club? No one would do that if they were a true toon fan. I therefore conclude you must be a mackem.

Comment #76Willo out for six weeks and Shola injured again with his hip – again! Doubtful for Sunday. I’m beginning to feel sorry for Pardew who is just having to paper over the cracks every single game by moving the meagre squad around, thanks to the crap way this club is being run by fatso and the odious side kick. I’m also beginning to doubt this Pieters deal – if a deal was in place between the clubs, we’d have heard about it by now. If he plays for PSV on Sunday, forget it. They will want time to get a replacement, and must be getting close to telling us to bug-er off.

Haha if your going to quote me get it right lad I said “Nolan replacement my fine backside” (and yes it is fine) and imo right now he isnt Nolans replacement as me and davy have discussed in the past (he argued Vuckic was a ready made Nolan replacement when Nolan was sold and would easily take up his position and I argued against that….we however didnt come to a slagging match regardless of how often we disagree)

Comment #79asgree with felipe on poisoning the atmosphere.. it really feels like some peeps here do it intentionally.
however… wwjbd doesnt rip in to players all the time he has been positive from time to time and usually has a point and doesnt just put regurgetated repetative comments over and over again like some pricks.
solano, best was decent last night but never will be a target man which i think we played him as too much.

Comment #80@GBS 72: Definition of support:
To keep from failing or sinking; to solace under affictive circumstances; to assist; to encourage; to defend; as, to support the courage or spirits.
You’re not supporters by that definition I therefore conclude you must be mackems.
