The performance last night by Newcastle side had a lot in it to make Newcastle fans just a little bit concerned.
Not many happy Newcastle faces on the sidelines last night
But there were also some good, and even great performances from some of the youngsters like Tim Krul, Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic, and things probably evened out between that terrible first half performance and Newcastle’s play after the interval.
And since the lads won the game, the overall feeling today is positive, and we are through to the next round and will be in the hat for tomorrow’s draw, and maybe we can get Aldershot, Shrewsbury or Rochdale at home?
Alan Pardew has admitted things were not all great last night, and he certainly looked a frustrated man through most of last night, until Ryan Taylor scored another great goal from a free kick on 80 minutes to level the scores at 1-1.
This is what Alan said today about last night:
“They are always tough nights. It is easy for the fans and the media to think we would come here and just get a 3-0 or 4-0 victory.”
“None of the sides from the Premier League have sailed through this week. At home it is different.” “Scunthorpe could not come to St James’ Park and do that.”
“It was a harder game – and harder than probably Fulham’s game was in the Ukraine.” “In the first half, you needed to have the application to play here and we did not have that.”
“We struggled and we were lucky to go in at 1-0 down, but in the second half we were brilliant.” “What could have been a negative night for me as the manager turned out to be positive.”
“We won the game, we are in the hat, three or four players were outstanding and the subs made an impact.” “I thought tactically we needed to change.” “We pushed three up top and tried to pin back their back four.
“That seemed to work and restricted their full-backs and we started to dominate.” “We should have won it in normal time. We had chance after chance in the second half.”
“We should not have needed Tim’s dynamic saves because the game should have been won by then.”
These games are always tough ones for whatever reason, but Newcastle are not the first team to struggle against lower league opposition this season, and it’s especially difficult away from home on a narrow pitch.
Sunderland and Swansea both lost away games to lower league opposition, and QPR and Norwich even lost at home to lower league opposition.
And now the three promoted sides to the Premier League are all out of the Carling Cup in their very first games, and of course their priority will be on staying in the Premier League this season.
It’s a real pity Sunderland were beaten at Brighton – no – I don’t mean that – just kidding.
😀

Comment #81Felipe – you are the prick, who obviously has no knowledge of this club or it’s history, and probably never goes to SJP. I bet you were nowhere near me last night at Scunthorpe.

Comment #84That’s bad news on the Willo front, and how on earth did Shola do his hip in? Our thin squad will be our biggest problem this season. We really need to stay injury free but we seem cursed in this department! I guess Best and Ba will start this Sunday, Sammyobi on the bench.

Comment #85@Tonytoon 73; Anyone who makes constant attacks on the toon I consider to be a mackem. That’s my opinion.
There is a small but very vocal minority on here who seem hellbent on poisoning the atmosphere on here and around the club. It is in absolutely no way constructive and can only hurt the club and therefore the team. I can onlcy conclude that anyone who would choose to do that is a mackem. Its not about disagreeing, its about certain people having an agenda.

There is a distinction between supporting the lads and the manager on a sat afternoon and supporting the owner and his policies-I and many others are of the former, not the latter.

Comment #89Felipe I’ve been supporting this club since before you were a twinkle in you GRANDFATHER’S eye, and this is without doubt the worst regime that has ever been in control at this club. \The fatman is an ar-ehole whose only interest in this club is financial, and I always support the shirts on matchday and have done for 63 years, and have never booed or criticised a player during a game in my life, but I reserve the right to say it as it is on this blog. some of it from knowledge within the game, that’s why I’m worried about the Pieters deal if there is no agreement today!

Comment #90Felipe…you support the regime, not the club.
I’ve seen some shite in my time at NUFC but have never waivered in backing up anyone who pulls on that shirt for the 90minutes – however, after the game has ended I think it is pretty normal for an ambitious supporter to have an opinion on players and be able to give a critique on the situation. As I get older, I’ve realised we are falling back to the same old mistakes of selling good players and not investing enough to help us improve. That’s what makes me a supporter of the club, not the regime!

Comment #91Felipe I was criticising some of the players last night but that does not make me a mackem, it is just putting my own opinions across.

I assume since your such a die hard fan you go to St James? Where do you sit out of curiousity? Purely ask because where ever I have sat (I jump around from time to time) the atmosphere is very similar yet you seem to experience a hughely different time to me
Also the only poison that is in our club sits in the boardroom matey

Comment #94Just to explain to Felipe – the reason I am worried about the Pieters deal ib because this is bank holiday weekend and International Clearance is only issued when all due funds are in the selling club’s bank account, and this usually takes 48 hours, and we won’t be able to transfer funds until Tuesday after the banks close today. Ominously the news is full of clubs making their moves today, QPR, Spurs, West Ham, Stoke, but NO word about Pieters and NUFC!

Comment #95Felipe:
‘Anyone who makes constant attacks on the toon I consider to be a mackem. That’s my opinion.’
This is in no way logical, for a start nobody on this blog makes constant attacks on the toon, maybe on the board, and rightfully so, as it is they who are attacking the history and legacy of nufc the most, are they mackems then Felipe? Moreover, what of Spurs fans, Man U fans, Southern Press etc. who attack the toon, are they mackems? really strange logic kid, you should state your opinions in context otherwise nobody will ever take you seriously, whether they agree with you or not..

Comment #98But you have called us mackems for voicing our opinions on this blog, how does opinion voiced onn the internet poison the atmosphere at the match? Unless ed hotwires his website to the dressing room as prep for the match then I don’t see your point. Fans are allowed to constructively criticise the way their club is ran, this is part of supporting the club.

Comment #99Felipe…you’ve managed to upset a lot of true fans with a combined supporting time of hundreds of years (mine and Jimmy’s alone takes it over 100) – maybe you should take time out before you come back on calling everyone Mackems.
As a sidenote and for the record, I know it is GCSE results time but you have to get out of the mode of commenting like it’s your history exam….”therefore I conclude”….or are you aspiring to be the new Rumpole of the Bailey”???

Now that is strange because I was under the impression that as a so called ‘negger’ I was one of the biggest critics of the club on this blog, CONSTRUCTIVE critic i will add, because I desire a club that is built towards competing, not towards finanical gain and profit-this does not mean I oppose sound financial structure but a balance between this and a squad that can compete as oppose to an extension of Ashley’s Sportswear empire whose advertising hoarding does not benefit the club in any way, until some real investment is made to improve the squad.

Talk is cheap Joey (wanting to stay and play for Newcastle) actions speak louder tho.
