Newcastle About To Sign Erik Pieters On Five Year Deal

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle will finally land Dutch International left back Erik Pieters.

Erik Pieters – five year deal at Newcastle

They are reporting it will be a deal for around £6.8M and that he will sign from PSV Eindhoven within the next 48 hours.

The left-back, who is 23 and played 10 times for the Holland side, will sign a five-year deal and will be the replacement for Jose Enrique, who is now playing at Liverpool.

Newcastle have been after the PSV player for the last couple of weeks, and were unwilling to pay the PSV asking price, but it appears a deal has been struck, at least according to The Sun.

Erik has played about 76 times for PSV, since moving there from Utrecht in 2008, and he is currently the Dutch left back, and is big friends with Tim Krul, who had a great game for Newcastle last night in their 2-1 Carling Cup win at Scunthorpe United.

This will be much needed good news for Newcastle fans if the story  is true, and the deal was apparently reached yesterday between the clubs after some rather torturous negotiations.

And Erik will travel to Newcastle today for his medical,  and if all is okay he could be included in the squad for the important game against Fulham on Sunday, and fans will see the new signing in action.

And would you believe The Sun is also reporting Newcastle are close to getting a £7M deal completed for French striker Nolan Roux.

And we reported on the potential Roux move yesterday and said there was no way Newcastle would pay our big money for this player – that must have tipped the balance – but of course we’re not sure if this story is true either.

A win last night and two players signed soon, and then a win on Sunday afternoon against Fulham, and maybe Joey Barton will stay at Newcastle this season after all.

We’re not sure we could take all that good news all at once   ….  but we’ll try.

😀

Best part is that Raylor can be moved across to RB. That team now looks a lot more balanced to me. Roux in next? Then I am reasonably happy!!! Barnetta if Barton leaves.

bout bloomin time + anyone else think that if David De Gea is worth £17.5mil then if Krul keeps up that standard of play hell be worth at least £20mil (yes i do think DeGea was overpriced) but still Krul proved last night why he is #1 and when mrPieters signs hell have a nice little friend too 🙂 + weve found our striker why not give ameobi jnr the hame vs fulham see how he does

Do you reckon sacrificing Simo for Raylor is a good move?

A lot quicker+a better defender, I think his value to us not conceding goals is greater than Raylor’s FKs?

He’s only looking like such a hero as we are struggling to score from open play!

I was saying last night that we now have a future number 9 on our hands… I think the boy has got what it takes and would be happy for him to run the line against Fulham… why not – lets give him a chance?

@8 – If we had Raylor at RB – he brings pace and tackling plus the added bonus of being on the pitch for FK… Simo can barely defend – he was terrible again last night…

I didnt know the SUN did reporting……………this could just be rubbish from a paper only worthy of the toilet. I’ll believe it when i see it. And i’m not sure about this Roux transfer – even if we get him, it screams of desperation. Perhaps, he is a good player in the making, but i certainly don’t think he’s a number 9. Why didnt we go for a loan of sturridge or even abelynor (or however u spell it).

Great news getting a LB, if its true.

Now maybe they will produce the mythical, mystery striker we so desperately need. If last night proved anything, it was the forwards on display were clearly unable to lead the line. The were woeful, looked completely clueless which has to be a major worry in the EPL as no indication of where the goals are coming from yet. With the honourable exception of young Sammy!!

    Off topic, but…

The passion of S Taylor sent shivers down my spine all night. I was moaning about the teams effort in the first half, and when he came on, he showed what being dedicated to the team is all about. Winning headers, taking risks and getting infront of strikers – and winning consistantly. The passion is there for everyone to see. Long may it continue.

Simo was shocking last night, would defo give Raylor the RB place. I cringe nearly every time a ball get’s passed back to Simo.

On a better note, well pleased were getting somewhere with Pieters signing!

@13 – Agreed – Tayls was ace… he fired himself at everything – with Collo we now have a tough CB line… without them last night we would have been made look very average… Marv was marked out of it by Scunny… they targeted him alright… Welcome to English Football… I like his toughness in the tackle though… doesnt give up the ball too easy and chases back…

You do realise Simo is quicker than Raylor?

I think Simo’s a better defender, but Raylor offer’s the FKs.

Got back from Scunnie at 01.30 – what a rollercoaster, thank God for Krul and Sammy. May I ask the Ashley fans on here a question – why on earth are we selling players like Carroll, Nolan, Barton and Enrique, and giving contracts to the likes of Simpson, Ba, Lovenkrands and Best? Simpson is utter crap, and Williamson not much better – a centre half who can’t jump under pressure? Ba has to be one the worst players I’ve ever seen in black n’ white in my 63 years watching. On the up side, Marveaux will be an asset after a few games, as will Cabaye, but wasn’t impressed with Gosling. One thing about young Vuckic, he has ability, but he’s dreadfully slow for a 19 yr old, and defence still suckers for the ball in the air across the box. Please fatman, not one, but 2 strikers before Wednesday.

@ Eaststand – And our goal last night came from the left…?

To be fair, neither of them are class, if we get in Pieters AND a Santon quality RB, we could push Raylor to RM instead perhaps?

    Just a suggestion…

Ba has played about 100mins in total, slight knee jerk reaction you not think, yes his touch has been poor, but lets give him a chance to settle in, he has had no service in front of goal as yet and think he would be better suited playing slightly higher as the main striker rather than playing off best/shola

Saylor has a big role to play in the squad now that several of the senior players have moved on. He is one of the new lot that we need to keep everyone focused and fired up!!! Might be a big year for him if he stays injury free…

True, I forgot to mention Collo – for some strange reason. Our defence would have looked a lot weaker without some of his great challanges – I guess ive just started to take them for granted.

Simpson makes me uneasy every time he’s got the ball, would definitely give the right back spot to taylor, at least he can cross and pass a bit. I would say his open play is better than Simpson and he’s free kicks are an added bonus!

On another note Vuckic and Ameobi and going to be some players! With Darnel Situ supposed to be a good CB and Tavernier for RB a few of our next players could be from the youth!

On a side note for his first competitive start in 10month I though Marveaux looked rather classy and still had a bit left in the tank after 120mins which was nice to see!

    Alright lads….good win last night.

Lets hope this is true and we are signing pieters, Raylor did ok at leftback but I think he’d be better at right-back instead of Simmo.

Im really worried about our strikers, Ba again looked lazy…hope its not because he has signed a 5 year contract and knows he’s employed for the next 5 year

Otters – Ba doesn’t even move like a footballer. Crap control, slow in movement and thought, and no goal threat whatsoever. He’ll never get up to pace because he has to be mollycoddled in training because of his knees. Even pessimistic me would be happy with 2 full-backs and 2 strikers – if they were hailf decent wee could finish half way.

Obertan has looked shot for confidence so surely last night would have gave him more playing time, therefore confidence? Great news on the Pieters front…..as long as its true. Now just a striker..whoever THAT maybe…5 days and counting

you joke about raylor up front but he can pass shoot with either foot with power and accuracy hes also decent from range and if we sign the LB hes still better than our other strikers him and Sameobi up front sorted id put a quid on raylor getting Nolans share of goals at least in the dropped off roll
