Sammy Ameobi had a dream sub appearance last night, and looked very good out on the left wing, and then he scored a terrific winner for the Magpies with his right foot.
Sammy Ameobi – it was a great experience
Sammy looks like he may be the real thing and at only 19 years old, he still has lots of time to improve, but don’t be surprised if Shola’s younger brother gets a run-out on Sunday afternoon against Fulham, because of his great play where he was able to open up the Scunthorpe defense.
And don’t forget before he scored Sammy had made two great runs down the left wing and centered the ball across the goal only for Dan Gosling and then Leon Best to miss the easiest of chances.
Where’s that new striker?
This is what an exhilarated Sammy told the Newcastle press today:
“It was a great experience.” “It was my first Carling Cup game, and to score the winner was a dream come true really.”
“Hopefully, I can build on that.” “The manager just asked me to get on the ball, attack and cause havoc.” “It was a great free-kick from Ryan and it was good for me to get the winning goal.”
“I just cut on to my left foot and I thought I had to hit it.” “You never know what can happen.” “As soon as I hit it, I thought it was going in and when it went in it was a great feeling.”
“It was a great goal to score.” “I could barely breathe on the floor – they were all just piling on top of me!” “There is a great team spirit and hopefully we can take this winning mentality into the Fulham game.”
“I just want to do my best every chance I get and work my hardest.” “I just want to make a difference when I come on, and it was good for the boss to see what I can do.”
After Sammy’s performance last night he will get more chances, and we look forward to see him get a sub appearance in the second half on Sunday afternoon, and a win against Fulham would make it three wins in a row, so that’s what we’re hoping for on Sunday.
Take another look at Sammy’s great goal last night.
Fulham played in the Ukraine last night and were beaten 1-0 at Dnipro, but still advanced in the Europa Cup, so Newcastle may be a little tired on Sunday afternoon, but there again, Fulham had a lot more travelling to do for their game.
We will expect a Newcastle win on Sunday, in a game that is again being televised around the world, and if we get the win, things will be buzzing again on Tyneside, despite the negativity around the place, because Joey Barton may be leaving the club..

Vuckic was great!! He always kept the ball, played some clever passes and dribbled well. Same for Sammy.

You being serious? Did you actually watch the game? Some of marveaux’s passes were brilliant from the midfield. He showed quick feet and his final ball was a mile better than routledge.

Love how he’s tried to pull of the busted look, remember seeing him in town just over a year ago when he had it done and looked really funny like!

Comment #12Why has Routledge changed his name to Marveaux by the way? By the way i always liked Routledge … so I’m not bothered he’s come back again.

Comment #13NottsGeordie, no point slagging routledge off, he does not play for us.
what you should have typed is, ‘ Some of marveaux’s passes were brilliant from the midfield. He showed quick feet and his final ball was a mile better than Gutierrez.’

Comment #20Krul was excellent and Sami and Vuckic were great for me… but they are academy players really showing up the first teamers – as they did preseason – I don’t know whether or not that’s a cause for concern or happiness?!?!

Comment #25Great goal and a decent run for Sammy but boy oh boy we really lack some bite. I’m hoping Ba gets better because so far he’s been absolutely dreadful, esp. last night. Best worked hard and was strong in the air but his finishing was woeful. We all know Shola works hard but I doubt he’ll get us 10+ goals. Ranger has potential but is nowhere near the complete article yet. Lovenkrands did ok in the winger/attacker role but was wasteful with the ball and, like Shola, can’t be counted on for 10+ goals. Our need for a striker is just ridiculous now.

Comment #29Sylvain Marveaux started the game like a player that had not played for nearly a year, but what he never did was hide, he just kept plugging away, and by the end of the game was playing quite well, don’t expect to much too quick and you wont be disappointed. ba on the other hand needs a goal then we will see. Lovernkrands and best maybe played at there true level.

Comment #36Best had a perfectly good goal ruled out, got into a few good positions, led the line well, winning every header and is a ever willing worker. Get off his back.
Every ST has frustrating days, in which he could have had 3, but got none, thing is, Best had a perfectly legit goal ruled out.
