Sammy Ameobi had a dream sub appearance last night, and looked very good out on the left wing, and then he scored a terrific winner for the Magpies with his right foot.
Sammy Ameobi – it was a great experience
Sammy looks like he may be the real thing and at only 19 years old, he still has lots of time to improve, but don’t be surprised if Shola’s younger brother gets a run-out on Sunday afternoon against Fulham, because of his great play where he was able to open up the Scunthorpe defense.
And don’t forget before he scored Sammy had made two great runs down the left wing and centered the ball across the goal only for Dan Gosling and then Leon Best to miss the easiest of chances.
Where’s that new striker?
This is what an exhilarated Sammy told the Newcastle press today:
“It was a great experience.” “It was my first Carling Cup game, and to score the winner was a dream come true really.”
“Hopefully, I can build on that.” “The manager just asked me to get on the ball, attack and cause havoc.” “It was a great free-kick from Ryan and it was good for me to get the winning goal.”
“I just cut on to my left foot and I thought I had to hit it.” “You never know what can happen.” “As soon as I hit it, I thought it was going in and when it went in it was a great feeling.”
“It was a great goal to score.” “I could barely breathe on the floor – they were all just piling on top of me!” “There is a great team spirit and hopefully we can take this winning mentality into the Fulham game.”
“I just want to do my best every chance I get and work my hardest.” “I just want to make a difference when I come on, and it was good for the boss to see what I can do.”
After Sammy’s performance last night he will get more chances, and we look forward to see him get a sub appearance in the second half on Sunday afternoon, and a win against Fulham would make it three wins in a row, so that’s what we’re hoping for on Sunday.
Take another look at Sammy’s great goal last night.
Fulham played in the Ukraine last night and were beaten 1-0 at Dnipro, but still advanced in the Europa Cup, so Newcastle may be a little tired on Sunday afternoon, but there again, Fulham had a lot more travelling to do for their game.
We will expect a Newcastle win on Sunday, in a game that is again being televised around the world, and if we get the win, things will be buzzing again on Tyneside, despite the negativity around the place, because Joey Barton may be leaving the club..

Comment #41I agree on Ba, he was indeed awful.
Someone is suggesting that he’s on Ramadan along with Tiote, both have been shocking and are known for being ALLOT better than what they’ve shown.
He looked so insecure and had awful first touches, wasn’t good the least.
I thought Vuckic and Sammy linked up very well, made some key passes, mostly to eachother.
We need an entire team playing like that.
I found Marveux great, but needs to get used to the pace PL, we were only playing a League 1 team :/
But he showed some brilliant passing, and his crosses looked great and had good accuracy.
But he got bullied a bit.

Comment #43Brettoon give people a chance Ba needs a goal, Best wasn’t sh*te he’s just not up to PL standard. Gosling is a good player the kid has been out injured for nigh on 2 years. Prats like you will not help him he needs support and games he will be a top player for the toon.

You are right about Best. He was no where near as bad as Ba, Gosling or Loven…..at least he got in positions to score!

Comment #45Nobody seems to pick up on why on gods green earth Lovenkrands still is anywhere near the first team, he is our worst player by a country mile, looks so panicked in posession, does nothing for long periods, cant beat is marker, cant shoot, cant pass, he can run in a straight line quickly but that is about it. I know some may think Im being harsh but he honestly is an awful player

Well, they did at Stamford Bridge last year. 🙂
I think Marveaux will turn out really good for the toon as well.

Comment #54Leon Best did enough last night to show he is on current form our best striker. Wins a lot more headers than Ameobi and holds the ball up better with better first touch. Although he can be sloppy at times but then again so can Ameobi. Like to think Ba will improve with games though.

Comment #58Central defender Mike Williamson is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in last night’s 2-1 Carling Cup victory at Scunthorpe, while keeper Steve Harper will miss out with a knee problem and striker Shola Ameobi could be limited by a hip injury.

Comment #59Squabbling over who is the worst between Ba, Best and Loven – all played and to be honest all looked woeful.. whether it was hiding in Ba’s case or choking in Best’s – they are all better than that, but how much is hard to argue with a straight face… not 36 games left in the premiership good… we will continue to rely on goals from the Taylors, and impact subs at this rate…
Shola remains the better in that – even if he doesn’t score, he allows us to hold a higher line and for midfield to support in behind, as the best target man out the lot…

Comment #60Gosling will do it, no doubt about it.
Ba needs to buck his ideas up, Marveaux will come good, Sameobi – looks to be a helluva find, local boy does good !
Haris Vukic will be a fantastic player for us. Cabaye will be the midfield boss, all this Im sure of.

Comment #64Boater – Explain? Best scored a perfectly legit goal, that was wrongly ruled out.
Some people truly do see all they want to. Draw a conclusion then make sh!te up to support it, rather than look at the facts, then draw an argument from them.

Ba –
Ba was utter crap – he couldn’t make one touch to save his life. Doesn’t look like a good footballer – as someone said earlier – waste of a free transfer.
Gosling –
Looked good in preseason but looked crap again. No passing ability – the odd tackle but not much else.
Best –
Terrible footballer. Wrong place all the time.. Can’t header, cant tackle, cant control, can’t shoot. Not PREM quality and we all know that!

Comment #77Loven is in a crap league of his own.
Atleast the other strikers we have are somewhat capable at creating something once in a while.
While Loven is just awefull, a complete waste of wages.
I don’t get why he’s got playing time. We should have youngsters on the bench instead of him.

SUPER KRUL
Captain Collo
Ryan Taylor (defensively poor though) – cracking goal though!
Stevie Taylor (solid when he came on) – better than Willo
MArveaux – could be a good player
Vuckic – classy
Sammy – funniest player I have ever seen
Cabaye – looks solid as well
Rest were awful
