We were disappointed that we’ve lost both Jose Enrique and Joey Barton over the last 10 days or so.
Modibo Maiga – still a target
They were very good players, and both gave Newcastle everything they had when they played for the Tyneside club, and you cannot ask more than that.
And even though players who leave Newcastle tend to get booed when they return playing for another club, let’s just remember these two lads gave everything they had when they played in those famous black and white striped shirts.
And that goes for Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll too.
But as we said yesterday Newcastle must now move on, and at the moment the club is short of players, as everybody knows, but we are hoping the signing of Dutch left-back Erik Pieters is not too far away.
There is news in the local Newcastle press today, that the club will be out in full force this weekend, looking to finalize a deal for a striker.
There has been news over the last four days that Newcastle have an interest in Nolan Roux, the 23 year-old Stade Brest striker who has played once for the French U21 side, but a fee of around £7M seems way out of whack, or maybe we are just way out of whack.
The lad is fast and can score goals, so he remains a possibility, but apparently Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga is still a potential signing, even though his club reported Newcastle to FIFA, for an illegal approach for their player.
Alan Pardew is obviosuly not gouing to give anything away, but Newcastle have around five targets they will be going after before Wednesday evening, when the transfer window slams shut.
Newcastle will hopefully bring in a left back and a striker, and hopefully a replacement for the departed Joey Barton.
This is what Alan said today:
“We have four or five targets, and hopefully we can get two over the line.”
And maybe the reason Demba Ba looked so out of sorts on Wednesday is that he is participating in Ramadan, and is not eating or drinking during daylight hours.
While he’s on a fast Alan should probably not play him, but that does explain why he looked so poor on Thursday evening, so in a way it’s good news. And we need all the good news we can get in the next four days.
If Newcastle can get in a striker and left back, and also sign young Danny Shitu, The French defender, Newcastle will have not fared too bad this summer after all.
Howay The Lads!!
