Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has made four changes to his side that beat Scunthorpe 2-1 last Thursday evening.
Recalled to the side today are defender Steven Taylor, Gabriel Obertan, Cheik Tiote and Jonas Gutierrez. They were rested for the Carling Cup tie but of course Mike Williamson was injured in the first half and Steven came on and played the rest of the game.
Mike has damaged ligaments and could be ou up to six weeks.
Sylvain Marveaux, Dan Gosling and Demba Ba go back to the bench for the important game against Fulham today, and Ole Soderberg continues as substitute goalkeeper, so36 year-old veteran Steve Harper must still be injured.
Shola Ameobi picked up an injury in training, and Leon Best keeps his place up front alongside Danish striker Peter Lovenkrands.
Best and Lovenkrands will have an important role to play today, because the lads missed a host of chances in the second half on Thursday, and need to put the chances away today. We have a feeling Peter will be on form today, as he was close two or three times at Scunthorpe, but had no luck.
Youngsters on the bench today for the Magpies are Shane Ferguson, Haris Vuckic and Sammy Ameobi, who will get a great welcome if he’s introduced today, following his stunning winner at Scunthorpe.
Damien Duff starts for Fulham today, and we’ll sure he’ll get an appropriate welcome by the fans, after leaving after relegation and then bad mothing the club after he arrived at Fulham – very unprofessional – a no no.
We need a win today and that would be 7 points from out first three league games – not too shabby!
A win today and three great players brought in over the next three days, and we’ll be flying.
Howay The Lads!!
