Newcastle again found a way to win this afternoon, this time at home to Fulham.
Steven Taylor – delighted with win and with team
In this game Leon Best again showed he can hit those goals when he’s given the chance, and he scored two opportunist second half goals to make his total 8 goals in his 15 appearances for the Magpies this year so far – that’s Alan Shearer type scoring.
And Tim Krul made three magnificent saves in the second half, and simply carried on from his form at Scunthorpe on Thursday night, and this lad could well become Holland’s number one goalkeeper very soon.
Newcastle seem to have an ability to hang on in these games season, when they are being outplayed and they rarely crack, although they did concede their first league goal of the season after 88 minutes today, but hung on for a very valuable 3 points.
There will be news stars coming through for Newcastle to replace those who have departed this year – Carroll, Nolan, Enrique and Barton – but the lads seem to have a great team spirit and again stuck together well today, through some adversity to get the win.
Steven Taylor is looking like the player we knew of old, and he and his captain Coloccini again provided a solid central defense for Newcastle this afternoon.
Steven seemed quite happy at the end of the game:
“We’ve had three games, Arsenal at home, Sunderland away and Fulham at home; three massive games in the Premier League and for us to get seven points out of those three is fantastic for us.”
“We’re looking forward to the next game now against Queens Park Rangers but the main thing was picking up three points today and if we can improve our away form, we’ll be happy.”
“We put a great shift in today. After the first ten minutes, we got in amongst them and had people all around the pitch causing problems for them.”
“Cheik Tiote and Yohan Cabaye in the centre were fantastic, we had Besty roughing them up, Peter Lovenkrands playing off him and the wingers were up and down, working hard – I didn’t see them stop working one bit.”
“And for us at the back, including Tim Krul, we did our job and that’s the main thing.” “In midweek Tim pulled some absolute worldies out and then today when we needed him, he was there for us.”
“It’s nice to have a top quality keeper there and we’ve got that in Tim and in Harps as well so we’re very lucky to have them.”
“I’ve got a good partnership going with Colo,” “The back four are sticking together as a good unit and it’s nice to have Tim behind us, who’s always talking, so I’m absolutely delighted.”
It’s hard to complain about getting 7 points from our first 3 league games and getting through to the third round of the Carling Cup.
The great start to this season has been a surprise to most Newcatsle fans, but what’s coming through is that Newcastle still have some very good players in the squad.
A lot of them simply need more Premier League experience, and today Yohan Cabaye looked good, and Gabriel Obertan put in a decent shift on the right wing in place of the departed Joey Barton, and Danny Simpson also had a good game at right back.
Things may even be a lot better than we had thought, but it will still be important to bring in three good players before next month rolls around on Thursday, but things are looking up today for the Magpies after their third win in a row.
Howay The lads!!
