Even though Mevlut Erdinc would seem to get little playing time at PSG, it looks like he is staying at the Paris based club this season.
Mevlut Erdinc – staying at PSG
Erdinc came on in the 87th minute yesterday, in place of another former Newcastle striker target, Kevin Gameiro, in PSG’s fine 3-1 win at Toulouse.
And as it turns out Erdinc scored in injury time, to add to goals from Gameiro after 56 minutes, and another injury time goal from Jeremy Menez, after the home side had taken the lead in the 39th minute, with a goal from Etienne Capoue .
Newcastle had also been after Kevin Gameiro early this summer, when he was still at Lorient, but he also snubbed Newcastle, in making the move to PSG, after a Quatari group bought the Paris club in late May of this year
PSG are currently third top of the French League with 7 points from their first 4 games.
A PSG statement was issued on their web-site tonight:
“Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce that striker Mevlut Erdinc will continue the season playing for PSG.”
“Despite numerous requests from clubs wishing to engage the services of Mevlut, the club and the player decided to continue this adventure together.”
“The club wishes to express its appreciation to keep a player of the quality of Mevlut.”
We’re fairly sure that Newcastle have been after Mevlut over the last week, which is one reason PSG will have issued the statement.
And as we reported earlier today it seems like Newcastle are trying to sign Modibo Maiga from Sochaux or Nolan Roux from Brest.
There were also strong reports earlier today, that Newcastle have negotiated a £5M deal for 20 year-old Davide Santon of Inter-Milan and the news could break tomorrow that Newcastle have signed the 6’2″ tall Italian International full-back.
We hope the news breaks tomorrow that Newcastle have signed the 6’2″ tall Italian International full-back.
The transfer window slams shut at 11:00 pm on Wednesday night.
