Newcastle Close to Signing Italian International

News in the Daily Mail today that Newcastle United have agreed a deal to bring 20 year-old Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon to Newcastle.

Davide Santon – £5M deal agreed with Inter Milan

The deal is said to have been struck at £5M, and we don’t know if Davide will be the one player to replace Josee Enrique, or whether Newcastle are still pursuing Aly Cissokho of Lyon and/or Erik Pieters of PSV, both of whom played for the clubs over the weekend.

One of the good things about Santon is that he can can play in either full back position, and he is also a very attacking player, and has already played 51 times for Inter Milan.

Newcastle were first linked with this player about 8 days ago,  so at least the news seems to be consistent and could be true.

The 6’2″ tall youngster has played 7 times for Italy, and for all the Italian Youth sides since he was 16, and 12 times for the Italalian  U21 side, and Davide has been at Inter-Milan since he was 16 years-old, and has played 51 times for the Milan giants.

He joined Ravenna Calcio, based in  Ravenna, when he was he was a 10 year-old and the full-back spent the last six months on loan at Cesena, where he played 11 times.

And the other news this morning is that Newcastle are looking at signing Czech goalkeeper Petr Bolek on a season long loan deal.

The 27-year-old from Slovakian side FK Senica, is wanted as cover for Tim Krul and Steve Harper.

Leyton Orient also want the player and Bolek will be at Newcastle over the next day or two to take part in some training with the lads, before making a decision.

We’d be very happy if Newcastle can secure Santon, since he looks a very talented young player, who could do a job in the future for the Magpies.

What do you think?

Where did this come from? Amazing if we signed him – Do you think Simo is out the door to QPR?

Unsure on this signing, no doubt an asset in the long run, but is he good enough now? And can he improve on the understanding our 4 at the back seem to have developed with each other? Is he a Simpson replacement or a Raylor?

There was an article in Daily mail today, but there’s also this:

Davide Santon fee to #nufc has been agreed. 5m. Feel excited Magpie supporters, you’ve acquired a potential star in the making.

I’ve followed that man for quite a while, and is 90% spot on in his assessments, nothing like Cwarr and such.

    @LewSpi

I think he’s holding a spot at Inter atm, but has fallen out lately, dunno why…
He’s touted as the new Maldini in Italy, and can play both RB and LB, equally adept.

Good start to the season although we seem to be grinding out results rather than dominating games which in all fairness we should be against teams like Fulham at ST James’s. We are being exposed at the back time and time again. We need both a left back and a right back. Simpson does not appear in my opinion to be developing into the top class player his potential suggested. Time is running out.

Nooooo not Salt… I think we will have 3 in… them being Cissokho, Santon and Roux… Fingers, Toes and Pubes crossed… 🙂 Also though Obertan put in an excellent shift on Sunday.. talking back and such… albeit Marvs should have had a Cameo… and BA with some food in his belly looked better…

I called this one yesterday, see post 328 in ‘Newcastle’s good start to the season – things looking up’ after hearing it from a very close source that Pards was having second thoughts on Pieters. He’s replacing Jose though not Simo who is hopefully here to stay. Quality RB.

Still though, would be great if this comes off and hopefully we can still get Pieters in. Great fullbacks!

I still remember The chronicle headline when the last full back from Inter joined us. “Pistone wings his way Inter Toon”

A fantastic signing if he’s coming in as well as Pieters/Cissoko because he can challenge them as well as Simmo for a starting place and we relly need another player to give Simmo a kick up the ar*e and improve him.

Can’t see us buying 2 fullbacks though that would seem like way to much common sense for our club.

AND WHAT ABOUT A FLAMING STRIKER FFS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve just seen the goals from yesterday and I’ve got to say I’m annoyed. Yeahh it was a good result but should we be relying on our strikers week in week out to get the goals? THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Also how can Krul expect to keep his place in the side when he’s letting in goals, thats 2 in 4 now THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! as for us going for this KID we need experience not top quality italian right backs and 5m for a KID? I hear people shout that we’re 6th? 6th now yes but wait until 2 seasons time when we’re 6th in League 1 because we’ve sold all our players except for Perch!! NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Well Santon is a class player, easily better than simmo but he is a right footed right back.

We already have a square peg in a round hole at LB so why not just buy a kin LB aswell as DS.

Anyone else think we are woefully, ridiculously, stupidly short of a centre half? Or am I exagerating

  • I dont get it, all these players we have signed are apparently top class why would they be leaving their respective clubs to come to the toon if they were TOP CLASS?
we dont offer anything for top class players apart from a shop window. why do people keep saying these players are top class b4 they even kick a ball. oberran is looking shocking and I understand why Man U got rid yes Cabaye is looking decent but goes missing in games for long periods. These players coming to the toon are obviously not good enough for the teams we are buying from as we are doing it all on the cheap they are not on big money so if they are as good as people keep saying why are they not at a club playing champions league?

also when did did Ben Arfa become this amazing footballer as ed the ed would have it?

newcastleun1ted.blogspot.com…….firstly how far are you through the dummys guide to Neggers? making a stupid point in capitals in the first chapter and following it up with drivel is chapter two. Other than the top 4 contenders no-one has come out of the blocks all players immense…secondly our players need a little time at least to adapt and gel, surely? in fairness though they’ve slotted in pretty quickly as far as I can see. Also by your process of elmination we can never sign someone good because they wouldn’t want to come here? simply No. They come here because they want premiership football or regular football, those wanting premiership football are maybe not scouted by the major major sides because they also want a big name for example or want someone even better because they can afford to. Not saying we get the scraps but that good scouting affords us someone good with room for improvement. Next up if they want starts, yes we can offer a good player a regular spot whereas its hard to get infront of the rooneys, the gerrards or the terrys of this world in their respective positions so they try us on for size. Some will be using us as a stepping stone, the odd one will stay loyal the rest will lie somewhere in between but hopefully while they’re here they perform. As for Ben Arfa countless big teams scouted him, he’s won several player awards and is generally considered a very good player by many with a lot of potential.

I’d heard that we were going to sign Santon but honestly thought it would be a season long loan deal. If we have signed the player it will be a very good signing but he will need time to settle in and adjust to the pace of the Premiership

I’m not too worried about the RB position and I’m still bemused by the fact that fact that Steven Taylor has not been given a run in this position as he would relish it and do a good job with Williamson at CB with Collo.

I don’t think that there is a need to replace Barton as we have more than enough midfielders who are more than capable and fully expect Cabye to improve as he adapts to the Premiership.

Striker wise Demba Ba did look a little sharper yesterday and IMO Best should have been playing from the start of the season but I still have a sneaky feeling that we may get a loan dael for Sturridge on the last day but Ashley should test Chelsea with a £12M firm bid just to test the water ratther than taking a risk spending £6-8M on an untested foreign forward.

I hope that Ashley has taken on board what happened to Arsenal yesterday and realised that this is what can happen to a very good team when you sell your best players and unsettle the dressing room. He needs to make sure that we have adequate cover in all positions and make sure that we get an established forward before the window closes

I work for an Italian company and the Inter fans tell me this boy was brilliant under Mourinho; i.e. the season when Inter won the Champions League. However, he enjoys the ladies too much so coming to Newcastle may not be such a good idea unless he’s a drinking buddy for Ranger……

Sounds similar to Simmo, showed potential a couple of years ago but has,nt went to the next level.
i would rather have Peiters but he aint coming, nor is Cissokho,
So much for having a new face in by the wkend eh.
We seem to be going down the list until someone finally says yes,and i dont think santon has either, its just another piss take.
We might be doing well at the moment, but what happens when we get an injury to a key player, and lets fasce it,we dont have many of those left now that Cashley has stripped us bare.
You can call me a NEGGERS all day long, but there are thousands of fans who think the same as me,the daily blog is proof of that,i just hope that it does,nt end up going pear shaped when we get injuries, and we will.
We ARE crying out for reinforcements, everyone agrees with that. Will we get them? Will we F–K

Felipe, you’re entitled to your opinion but I think Simpson is a standard decent rb at best. I think for him to be a quality he would need to provide better crosses/attacks and be more of a solid defender not backing off a lot of of the time as well as being a stronger player in general.

Just depends how ‘quality’ is perceived I guess. I’d class Jose as a quality fullback. Simpson wouldn’t be touted for £15m. Still though, he can be decent and certainly isn’t bad, although his backing off blurs the grading lines a bit.

Would be very happy if we signed his guy and Pieters. Cant say i have seen this bloke before but just watched a few clips on youtube and from what i can see he is very attacking and quick.
Someone said on here earlier he isnt the best defensively but can any1 remember a left back we recently had who was very quick and attacking but questions over his defending when he first came? Look how good he turned out to be so lets hope this guy can be our right footed Enrique lol Then lets get Pieters in to be solid on the other side.

Yes great results from some good second-half performances.

You know I love NUFC and the team.

Just don’t like being cheated by Ashley, seems 10,000 missing fans at the stadium don’t either.

They need to buy a quality No9 with some of that 35M or there’ll be only 35,000 soon.
