The news in the Newcastle Journal this morning is that Newcastle are still hoping to sign Modibo Maiga from Sochaux or Nolan Roux from Brest.
Modibo Maiga – Newcastle still interested
Maiga was in the Sochaux side yesterday that beat St. Etienne 2-1 at home, but Roux wasn’t even on the bench for the Stade Rennes 3-2 win over Caen.
We don’t know if that means anything, but between the two we’d much prefer Maiga, probably because we don’t know too much about Nolan Roux.
The transfer window closes at 11:00pm on Wednesday night, so we hope we can get at least one striker in before then, and also a left back, but we’d also like a replacement for the departed Joey Barton too – but three players in is now looking very dubious..
The Journal today is reporting that Newcastle still want to do a deal for Erik Pieters of PSV, but there is news today in the Daily Mail that the club have done a deal, at £5M, for 20 year-old Italian International full-back Davide Santon.
So those two pieces of news don’t seem to be consistent, unless Newcastle are bringing in both Pieters and Santon.
But Pardew is still hopeful of getting new faces in by Wednesday evening:
“Hopefully, we will get over the line this week. There is nothing to update, we are at a point where in a few days we will know. I had hoped we would get one over the line by Sunday, it is frustrating.”
And Demba Ba looked hopeless on Thursday night at Scunthorpe when he started that game, but Ba put in a much better performance yesterday as a sub.
And we know the Senegal International has been participating in Ramadan, but that ends today, so we hope to see Demba Ba play like he did earlier this year, when he was at West Ham.
Alan Pardew talked about the striker and the fact Newcastle have started this season so well:
“Demba has had a tricky start,” “I won’t go into detail. He is a great lad and will get goals for us. It is great to get a positive cameo from him.”
“We have won three games this week and in professional football, or at whatever level, that is some going,” “You can’t disguise the fact that in a week we lost Joey after losing José Enríque that we needed people to come out of the pack.”
“I think Gabriel Obertan and Sammy Ameobi are doing that and Leon Best did that here. But we need reinforcements. I am not going to disguise that. We need reinforcements.”
“It is significant to start life after Barton with a win. He is a large personality. The club is always bigger than the individual. It is about other players making a name for themselves here.”
“Contrary to what you hear, we had a great relationship and I wish him well. Football moves quickly. We have seven points out of a really tough program.”
The lads have found a way to win their last three games, after being outplayed in the first half in each of them, and when we got through to half time yesterday, we were quite confident.
It was helped by the fact that in injury time in that first half Newcastle created three good chances, and then of course Leon scored his first goal just three minutes into the second half.
Another Best goal and three great saves by young goalkeeper Tim Krul, helped Newcastle record their third win in a row yesterday and 7 points from the first three league games.
It seems we’ve had the rub of the green in all four games this season, but we’re not complaining.
😀

Can’t see it but would be happy if we got him …
A quality No9 banging in goals puts bums on seats.
But it would have to be a real star to get the “buzz” back at the club.
Attendances will continue to fall they are definitely linked to Ashley’s spending and the club’s ambition.

Say hello to your new GK
Bye Bye Mr Kul. Far too good for NUFC.
No new striker now Besty is scoring.
No specialist LB either. Maybe some young kid unheard of.
Aim to finish 17th. Yee ha.

Comment #46danny and darlo: well on that reckoning we would be going after players that clubs want off their books, which for the most part doesnt mean quality.
oh it hardly matters: im only jabbering on cos i have that feeling (sure im not the only one) that come wednesday night we are gonna get a big fat NOWT (well just nowt, we already have a big fat…). —- remember black adders xmas when he goes into boldricks stocking and pulls out his present – his fist, then smacks boldrick in the face. I SEE THAT COMING, again, and sadly we cant duck — its gonna bat us right in the shnozza

Comment #49Ashley, get the signings we need. The gaping holes in our squad are as big as your belly. That gates are falling that should be telling you something. Instead of alienating the fans further i.e. the attitude re purchase of away tickets being limited and issuing threatening letters for fans to sit down at SJP, understand your customers.
Where’s the money gone, where’s the money gone? (chirpy chirpy cheap cheap chant to our malignant owner).

Comment #50Personally I dont believe a single word coming out of Newcastle at the moment. We are just being strung along with false hopes and promises from a board with no ambition and are just interested in getting the wage bill down.

Comment #55New players or no new players as Ed stated theres a real issue in that it takes us 42 minutes to get going in a game !!
Is there motivational issues? does Pardo need that long to figure out tactics and change them? Is it confidence? We could of found ourselves 2 – 0 down at least in all games so far by half time… theres a lot of luck in that we haven’t.

Essentially, we could have had all this done by now, if we really wanted 3 players. We now need a midfielder too, because if Cabaye is out we dont have anyone remotely at his level.
Well we did, but we sold him …..and all the clappies told us he wasn’t worth the hassle! Its seems the manager didnt agree with you boys.

Comment #57Lew Davies , i tend to agree. If only in terms of logic, waiting all this time to sign players suggests that it wont happen. Waiting till the deadline is unlikely to yield us any bargains unless the clubs are under pressure to sell, and they dont seem to be….?

Comment #59I think we’re overdoing this 2-0 down by h-t nonsense. Fulham didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. Arsenal had much more of the ball but again never had a real goal scoring opportunity. Everyone is saying if it wasn’t for Krul this would have happened or that would have happened but isn’t that why he’s playing? Wer’re playing without a proper LB and new players are settling in but we’re definitely playing better than last season. The difference this season is we’re defending better as a team and getting wins where last season we would have drawn or lost.

I think you can spot several of those fans on this blog, those that have a blind blinkered idea of where we should be as a club they go on about mid table mediocrity with disgust although in reality we have spent most of PL existence around mid table.
They watch the likes of Barca pass the ball back but never think they are being negative but as soon NUFC pass the ball backwards then we are rubbish and being negative.
As you say some of them really have no clue about football.

Comment #67WHATS GOING ON WITH THE BOARD AND MIKE ASHLEY ? THE CLUB HAS GOT 50 MILLION TO SPEND AFTER THE SALE OF Routledge Jose Enrique KEVIN NOLAN AND THE SALE OF ANDY CARROL OK THE CLUB CAN KEEP 10 MILLION THE CLUB HAS JUST BROUGHT IN TWO PLAYERS FOR 8 MILLION AND THREE FREE TRANSFERS.SO THE FOOTBALL CLUB STILL NEEDS TO SPEND 32 MILLION.
AND WHY IS THE CLUB LET ONE OUR BEST PLAYERS GO IN DEFENCE.ALAN PAR DEW IS A YES MAN AS WELL HE DOES WHAT EVER THE BOARD AND MIKE ASHLEY TELLS HIM TO SAY ABOUT PLAYERS ALL THE AT THE TIME.
CUSS YOU KNOW ITS ALL LIES HE IS SAYING ABOUT THE PLAYERS LIKE NOLAN AND THE OTHER 1 GOOD PLAYER WE HAVE IN DEFENCE ABOUT IE THERE CONTRACTS WAGES ITS JUST A COVER UP MIKE ASHLEY CUSS WE THE FOOTBALL CLUB IS A SELLING AND MIKE ASHLEY IS BLEEEDING US FANS AND THE FOOTBALL CLUB OF PLAYERS DRY .
CUSS WE ARE TOTALLY TURNING INTO A SELLING CLUB LIKE THE TIMES HAS SAID.UNLESS THE MONEY IS NOT PUT BACK INTO THE CLUB THOUGH PLAYERS AND THE YOUTH SET UP MORE WE ARE NOT GOING DO VERY WELL THIS SESSION.
OR IN THE FUTURE THATS WHY I FEEL THE FOOTBALL CLUB NEEDS A TOTAL STRONG 22 SQUAD AND WE NEED 3 WORLD CLASS DEFENDERS 6 IF Jose Enrique GOES AND NOW HE HAS SELL Michael Williamson. WE NEED A WORLD CLASS STRIKER SELL SHOLA AMEOBI KEEP THE OTHER 3 AND LOAN RANGER OUT.
IF THE MONEY DOES GET SPENT WHAT I SAY I BY THE TIME THE TRANSFER WINDOW SHUTS ALL US REAL NEWCASTLE UTD FANS SHOULD GET MIKE ASHLEY OUT HOW YOU ASK THOUGH A FACEBOOK ACTION GROUP, DONT BUY ANY SESSION TICKETS OR TICKETS TO WATCH THEM PLAY.
DONT SPEND ANY MONEY THE FOOTBALL CLUB IE CLUB SHOP’ SHEARES BAR’ STADIUM TOURS ETC SPORTS DIRECT WEB SITES HIT HIM WERE IT HURTS THE POCKET REMEMBER HE IS A BUSINESS MAN.
LETS ALL UNITE ON THIS WE NEED AT LEAST HALF OF THE STADIUMS SUPPORT ON THIS ITS PEOPLE POWER REMEMBER THAT MOVE AS A TEAM NEVER MOVE ALONE. BUTS LETS SEE IF MIKE ASHLEY STICKS TO HIS WORD IN WHAT HE SAID AFTER THE CLUB SOLD ANDY CARROLL AND THE MONEY TO SIGN NEW PLAYERS BUT LETS WENT AND SEE.
AT THE END OF THIS TRANSFER WINDOW ? NOT MANY DAYS LEFT AND COUNTING.
