Bad News For Newcastle – St Etienne Reach Agreement For Max Gradel

Sky Sports is reporting tonight that French club St Etienne have reached an agreement with Leeds United for their highly-rated winger Max Gradel.

Modibo Maiaga– may not get his dream move to Newcastle

The French club have just announced that a deal has been struck with Leeds United for their 23-year-old Ivory Coast International winger.

Gradel had also been linked with Sochaux today, and he was to be the replacement for Modibo Maiga, who was hoping to sign on at Newcastle, but that deal must now be doubtful, unless Sochaux can sign another replacement for Maiga within 24 hours.

Sochaux were said to be leading the chase this morning, for the fast and skillful winger, but the news is that St Etienne have won the race to sign him.

Sky Sports is reporting that Gradel is due in France tomorrow for a medical, and a statement released by St. Etienne read as follows:

On Tuesday evening, agreements have been reached in principle with Steaua Bucharest and Leeds United for the arrivals of Banel Nicolita and Max Gradel.

Both players have been in St Etienne’s sights for several weeks and will arrive on Wednesday for medical checks and to complete the final details of their contracts.”

There is also late news tonight that Leeds United have reluctantly agreed to the move,  after the 23 year-old handed in a transfer request, so that looks like the move will be definite, assuming that Gradel passes his medical.

As we said that’s bad news for Newcastle’s move for Modibo Maiga unfortunately.

Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for Italian U21 and Manchester United striker Federico Macheda, who is still only 20 years old.

That could probably now be the striker signing that Newcastle will make before 11:00 pm tomorrow night, when the transfer window closes shut, although it’s disappointing news that Sochaux couldn’t tie up Gradel.

QPR are also in the hunt for Macheda, but  earlier today Federico’s agent said Newcastle were ahead of QPR in the race to sign the Italian on loan.

But Machido will give Newcastle something different with his skill up front, and he could also be a good signing for the club, although it would have been good to have signed up Maiga on a permanent basis.

Comments welcome.

Federico Macheda would be a good signing to have to help Santon settle, but we would need another striker in as well, one with a proven record

Hopefully we’ll end up with a great striker who no-one has thought of.

There seems to be a lot of misdirection regarding our targets – Santon signs after weeks of other targets mentioned. Who knows?

    Hopefully Pardieu and Llamearse do

64mins – Magpies captain Jeff Henderson is left writhing in agony after a late challenge from substitute Ebanks Landell, who is sent off. He can have few complaints about that one, just 17 minutes after coming on, and poor Henderson will leave the pitch on a stretcher. Let’s hope this isn’t as serious as it appears, because the cool and classy Henderson is a great defensive prospect

    not good news 🙁

SORRY FOR CAPS IN ADVANCE, HERE’S AN INTERVIEW ON CISSE FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT:

Sigh of relief at the Bundesliga SC Freiburg. The poker game for striker Papiss Demba Cisse is finished: As sports director Dirk Dufner the ‘Sport-Informations-Dienst “(” SID “) on Tuesday evening confirmed the Senegalese attacker Freiburger not leave before the transfer window closed on Wednesday for Premier League “The issue is due.”

The consultants of Cissé, who scored four goals already this season for the Breisgau, had still negotiating with Newcastle United on Tuesday for a last-minute transfer. Newcastle offered but apparently only some ten million euros for the striker, while the sports club continue to demand € 15 million. In addition, the consultants have argued about commissions. This makes a change from Cisse, who is still in Freiburg under contract until 2014, at the earliest possible on the island during the winter break.

Dufner sees the 26-year-old a kind of non-descent guarantee: “This is a very special boy – and we are fortunate that he is with us this chance, we still want to enjoy for a while..” Cisse himself had declared that he could easily imagine, to leave the SC.

from previous post: Great signing reminds me so much of Bale and could easily play out wide if needed. I would take macheda if view to permanent as surely he is behind rooney, hernandez and welbeck now with berba probably moving on soon.

Like you thinking … tomorrow’s the day Ashley signs Sturridge.

    Get 35M for a No9
Spend 20M for the next …

    Still a good profit.

Finger out Ashley, or the stadium will empty in front of your eyes. We can all count up to 35 …

Can anyone see us being after Cisse?
He’s a great player and I would love to see the lad come and it would answer a lot of the ‘Where’s the 35mil gone?’ question’s, but even I’m starting to doubt us spending that kind of money on a striker
