You know I wondered if Max Gradel was a Sochaux or Newcastle target earlier this morning.
Modibo Maiga – could be Newcastle player soon
And it seems, as usual I got it wrong, and indeed Gradel is a Sochaux target to replace Modibo Maiga at the French club, should Modibo arrive at Newcastle.
So in my embarrasment I’ve deleted the entire article, destroyed the evidence, and hope I have better luck through the rest of the day.
But there does seem to be some good news today for Newcastle fans, and the club have agreed terms and a fee for Italian International full-back Davide Santon, and have gone back in for Modibo Magia, according to his Sochaux club.
And it now seems Max Gradel is the key to Newcastle’s hopes of signing the Sochaux striker, who is still keen at come to play for Newcastle.
But Sochaux’s tough Chairman Alexander Lacombe, has said Maiga will not be allowed to leave for Tyneside, unless Souchaux find a suitable replacement, and we believe him.
But the news that Gradel is now in advanced talks with Sochaux is now good news for Newcastle. This is what Lacombe told Sky Sports today:
“There has been an offer from Newcastle)” “But my goal is to maintain a competitive team.”
“I won’t sell Modibo without having found a replacement.” “We hope to finalize the deal on Gradel” ‘It’s a deal which is at an advanced stage.”
And would you believe it, but Newcastle are ready to announce the arrival of Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot, following a medical on Tyneside.
So if that news is true, we suppose nothing will now come of 26-year-old FK Senica goalkeeper Petr Bolek’s trial on Tyneside, that was reported yesterday.
It would be strange if Newcastle sign both Maiga and Elliott, after their clubs reported Newcastle to football authorities last week, for the Magpies’ illegal approach for the players.
OK – I think this report is fairly factual.
