Newcastle Interested In Israeli Captain Yossi Benayoun

Newcastle have been linked with Yossi Benayoun, who tweeted yesterday that he was in negotiations with a number of clubs.

Yossi Benayoun – too old at 31?

Yossi will not get much playing time at Chelsea now that midfielder Juan Mata has arrived from from Valencia.

We;d be surprised if this news has much truth to it, because at 31, Benayoun doesn’t fit the profile of younger players Newcastle are usually after these days.

But of course one link is that Alan Pardew brought Yossi to England back in 2005, when he was manager at West Ham, and the London club signed the Israeli from Spanish club Racing Santander.  Maybe that’s the source of this story.

The news over the last week or so is that Benayoun would likely be included as a player in a part-exchange offer from Chelsea for Spurs top Croation International midfielder  Luka Modric.

Only last summer Benayoun moved to Chelsea from Liverpool on a free transfer, after playing 134 times for Liverpool from 2007 with 29 goals.

Only yesterday he tweeted

“negotiating with several team …news soon.”

Benayoun made only 10  appearances for Chelsea last season, but of course he was out of action for  six months with an Achilles tendon injury, and he’ would get lots of  playing time on Tyneside.

But we’d be very surprised if this story has much truth to it, simply because the player is 31 years old.

But he is also a good and skillful player who can score goals, and Newcastle were linked with him before he finally went to West Ham back in 2005, when Graeme Souness was the Newcastle manager .

Yossi could do a job for a couple of years  on Tyneside.

What do you think?

Can’t see it as I would assume his wages are high if he went to Cheslki and we do have a lot of midfielders already.

I’d take Macheda on loan as well as Maiga on a permanent, provided we can ship out Ranger and Loverboy

This lad is a class player and WOULD be a great signing however he does not fit Ashleys profile (who does!!!!) I want this window closed, mainly to stop anyone of note going out (Ranger/Smith/Perch) exceptions of course. Still hoping Sturridge will come in as he would greatly improve us. Surely Ashley and Pardew can see that.Personally I reckon Ashley will be happy with fourth bottom and keep selling the playing assets.

May be setting myself up for a torrent of abuse here – but personally Id rather keep the money than spend a decent wedge on maiga. I just dont think hes good enough, and not 7-8m better than what we have already. Thats before we get on to the going on strike, troublemaker, cup of nations etc etc.
Id rather take Chopra back than Maiga.

Didn’t pards sign him at west ham mmmm interesting!! Great player ,bit old but if he cheap why not ,he would bring bit more creativeness to midfield ,at 31 can’t see fat man and side kick going for that .I would be happy with maiga ,santon ,and maceda on loan .

Speaking of Chopra he was driving the car next to me on the Kingston Park roundabout at the weekend… maybe i should put it on Newcastle Rumours that he’s going to sign for us!!

The fact he would have been visiting family and friends is irrelevant

Can’t see Smith going. He’s garbage and over the hill. All suitors can see it, even if we pay hald his wages.

Ranger should have his contract cancelled if found guilty. We missed the opportunity to do this with Barton years ago and shouldn’t make the same mistake twice.

Perch could go on loan to the Championship.

Drongo- it’s your opinion! The abuse you might get, will come from people that did not know his name until a couple of weeks ago. Me, I have never seen him play! It just sounds crap that he has been on strike at 2 different clubs. They need to insert something in his contract, to stop a repeat here!

Benayoun and Muntari recent roumors…but why?

Muntari replacement for Barton i guess.. but not instead of a striker…

Benayoun.. Cant see why.. isn’t he a winger?? No thanks..

    The priority:

    1. LB – Santon?
    2. Striker – Roux or Sturridge (on loan)
    3. Other players if there’s time for it to happen…

Basically not African players.. we’ll miss them in the winter…
