Newcastle United’s latest signing has talked in lyrical terms about the English Premier League and such a historical club as Newcastle United, the club he signed for tonight.
Davide Santon – will wear the number 3 shirt at Newcatsle
The left-back finally signed today, after terms had been agreed with his former club Inter-Milan, and terms were apparently quickly agreed with the player, before he signed his five year deal on Tyneside.
Davide, who was born in Portomaggiore in north east Italy, came through the ranks at Inter Milan, and he was given his chance by former Inter manager Jose Mourinho, and the lad has already represented Italy 7 times already.
And the 20 year old told nufcTV tonight after signing:
“It’s never easy to leave any country, never mind Italy,”
“It was a difficult decision, but I’ve only been here for a short while and I feel very comfortable. There are some good people here, it’s a beautiful place, therefore I am very, very happy.”
“I came here because it has always been my dream to play in the Premier League. And to play for Newcastle is even better, to play for such an historical club and such a great club.”
This is an excellent signing for the club, and Santon is a good replacement for Jose Enrique at left back, and we look forward to a couple more signings tomorrow, before the transfer window slams shut at 11:00 pm tomorrow night.
If we were to hazard a guess we’d say that Newcastle will sign striker Federico Macheda on loan from Manchester United, although Sunderland are said to be after him tonight, wow, isn’t that a surprise.
And it looks like Newcastle will sign Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot as a third senior goalkeeper for the season, and French U19 International center-back Danny Situ could also sign on, and Danny has impressed while on trial at Newcastle over the last couple of weeks.
With St. Etienne tying up Sochaux target Max Gradel tonight, it looks like Newcastle’s move for 23 year-old Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga may not be successful, but you never know, especially with Newcastle.

Comment #327Good news but slightly worrying. Santon was obviously not our first choice LB. Much cheaper than Cissokho and a little cheaper than Pieters. Coincidence??? Hope he proves to be a good signing like. Hopefully won’t turn out to be injury prone. Still need a ST and a CB and a RM.

Look at citeh three years ago!?! that is your arguement?
OK lets look at it just for fun. According to transferleague.com, since the oil barons bought citeh they have spent over 415 million pounds…..do you really think the fat one can spend like that? are you out of you mind?
If you told me a month ago we would have santon at 5 million I would have laughed, I think it is a fantastic deal

Yup, lost his place?
Why dint we go for the “2 world class left backs” then
Was that a rhetorical question?
Mine bout phil Thomson was!
Why u getting excited bout a full back when factually we have best defensive record in league, also…we cant score for toffee unless a striker who the club wants rid off plays?
Dies this not tell you about FCB attitude towards our team? In volumes?
The apologists, sadly Jack including you in this, are the most fickle nufc fans out there, we’ll sign gervinho, we don’t want big name players, mike will spend, he doesn’t need to spend, wait till end of transfer window, saving money till Jan, arsenal is perfect model, arsenal are shite, c’mon apologists, all wearing thin now!!
Where’s our number 9!
Shall I tell u where! In fat mikes bank account, earning interest, for ‘the bore hole, undersoil heating, cinder track’ and general running of club!!

Ok!
And your source? That it wasn’t a done deal when thomson said it was? You were also a one that said he was talking sh!t I believe?
Well done!!!!
Where did Enrique end up?
Nevermind! Not really interested in that! Interested in the striker we will buy for the 35 m we got from Carroll!
Should I ask phil Thomson? Knows more than all of us on here I would wager!!

Comment #336Did anyone else see that rumour today that we have bid for Pedro Leon of Real Madrid, probably BS but fits everything we want and need. Could be something in it, doubt it though.

Comment #337Some real doom and gloomers just popped up on here. No one here is suddenly saying “great we are awesome now we signed Santon” at all.
For £5m i think it was a great deal. Especially when you consider he was reported at the beginning of the window to be worth around £10 at least.
Yes i still don’t understand why we still wouldnt offer what PSV wanted for Pieters but I wouldnt say this is a case of settling for less. People here are making out like we went in for Ibrahimovic and settled for Cole when we failed.
It would be nice to spend but wouldn’t you rather we do the deals we have so far than maybe piss away £35m on 3 “bums off seats” signings that may not work out in the end.
We don’t have the ownership to buy our way up. Compared to the owners of the top clubs Ashley is nothing. He even said himself he is not rich enough to put Newcastle back up. Plus its not worth the risk financially. Therefore the only way we can improve is to do so slowly with clever additions to the squad. By speculating to accumulate like Arsenal have and then when we get to europe consistently, that is when we should start paying big for stars, when we actually have a chance of seeing the return.
My only issue this window is that we should have got the striker in way earlier than leaving it to the last day of the window. IMO we Ashley should just pay the £13-15 (depending on reports) for Cisse. He looks very very good and im sure we could achieve something very good with him upfront.
Would rather have done business like this getting value for money than piss it away. How would you neggers feel if we had pissed £35m away now and come January have major injuries or players not hitting form and not being able to replace them due to the fact we spend all our money.

Comment #338Brillant stat for you guys:
NUFC signed Tiote, Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Santone for less than what Jordan Henderson cost Liverpool.
Cannot wait for Jim’s big night on SSN tomorrow night!

I will continue to support the boys, and wish fir fat mike to sell up!
This man has NOT got the club, it’s fans at heart! He has profit! No more!
You néed to run a club with a craving fro success on the pitch, not just the bank! Am I wrong to think this?
And jabba is not interested in this! He is interested in making the club profitable only! Then he can start to rake get his loan back and take a wage!
The team has always been second a mere after thought to mike Ashley and shall remain so!
Prove me wrong please!
