Santon Signs Five Year Deal At Newcastle

Sky Sports is reporting that that Davide Santon has completed his move to Newcastle and has signed a five-year contract.

Davide Santon – Sky Sports is reporting a 5 year deal has been signed

The Italian full-back was first linked with Newcastle a few days ago, and it now looks like the deal has been completed, but nothing yet officially from Newcastle.

The 20-year-old arrived on Tyneside today to undergo a medical, after a fee of £5M was agreed with Inter-Milan, and terms were agreed with the youngster.

One good thing about Davide is that he can play on either side at full-back, and we are still hoping another full-back, Erik Pieters of PSV or Aly Cissokho of Lyon can be signed, but that’s only our wishful thinking,  and it’s very unlikely to happen.

Davide has played 7 times for Italy but over the last season or so, the youngster has been unable to get many games in the Inter-Milan side, although he comes highly rated by former manager Jose Mourinho and played a total of 51 times for the Milan giants.

This deal means that Newcastle have now paid out nothing in the transfer window, and have brought in as much in fees as they have paid out right now, and we think this is another excellent signing by the club.

Davide will be yet another top class youngster on Tyneside, as Newcastle build for the future, and presumably will go straight into the side at left back in place of the departed Spaniard Jose Enrique.

And Santon will be the sixth player brought in this summer by Newcastle following Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux, Mehdi Abeid and Gabriel Obertan to the club – and he’s not even French.

Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for 20 year-old Italian  U21 International striker, Federico Macheda and also are back in for 23 year-old Mali International striker Modibo Maiga of Sochaux, who is rated at around £7M.

The Magpies were also linked with Chelsea’s Israeli winger Yossi Benayoun this morning, although it looks like he could be returning to Liverpool and unlikely, very unlikely to join Newcastle.

The signing of Santon is much needed good news for Newcastle fans.

I know niafron still wants to see a left-foot LB, but it seems like Davide Santon is a good prospect and he’s an Italian international. I just hope he’s doing a better job than Jose Enrique.

The bottomline is… 5M? You are kidding me! He should have been a 10M kid!

@brighter, but he’s dubbed the next Maldini by Lippi, I think there’s something nice for him playing in the LB position. Let’s see!

i think cabaye has slotted straight into the prem, he looks to be up with the pace, dont mind a tackle on him or given them out, seems to like to shoot, has a great pass, its a shame barton has gone, them 2 could have been great together,,

ehemmm not in that way lol

One of the goals in the last match happened to start from Cabaye’s long shot and Best got a poacher goal from it. And then there’s another tight angle shot from the left almost getting in. Not trying to compare him with any other people, but he really likes to shoot and those are deadly shots.

Is Cabaye crap? I’d say that person doesn’t know football at all.

Saint Etienne reporting on their official site that they’ve reached an agreement with Leeds United for transfer of Max Gradel.

What does this mean for Maiga??
I wonder if we’ll go all out for Maiga or if we’ll switch our attention to another striker…
Either way, it’s going to be our last shot on a striker.

Yes of course I was pleased.I saw him many times on Youtube. But I have one worrying thing about him when he attacking forward. He did cutting inside a lot of times rather than down the left.
