Sky Sports is reporting that that Davide Santon has completed his move to Newcastle and has signed a five-year contract.
Davide Santon – Sky Sports is reporting a 5 year deal has been signed
The Italian full-back was first linked with Newcastle a few days ago, and it now looks like the deal has been completed, but nothing yet officially from Newcastle.
The 20-year-old arrived on Tyneside today to undergo a medical, after a fee of £5M was agreed with Inter-Milan, and terms were agreed with the youngster.
One good thing about Davide is that he can play on either side at full-back, and we are still hoping another full-back, Erik Pieters of PSV or Aly Cissokho of Lyon can be signed, but that’s only our wishful thinking, and it’s very unlikely to happen.
Davide has played 7 times for Italy but over the last season or so, the youngster has been unable to get many games in the Inter-Milan side, although he comes highly rated by former manager Jose Mourinho and played a total of 51 times for the Milan giants.
This deal means that Newcastle have now paid out nothing in the transfer window, and have brought in as much in fees as they have paid out right now, and we think this is another excellent signing by the club.
Davide will be yet another top class youngster on Tyneside, as Newcastle build for the future, and presumably will go straight into the side at left back in place of the departed Spaniard Jose Enrique.
And Santon will be the sixth player brought in this summer by Newcastle following Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba, Sylvain Marveaux, Mehdi Abeid and Gabriel Obertan to the club – and he’s not even French.
Newcastle have also been linked with a loan move for 20 year-old Italian U21 International striker, Federico Macheda and also are back in for 23 year-old Mali International striker Modibo Maiga of Sochaux, who is rated at around £7M.
The Magpies were also linked with Chelsea’s Israeli winger Yossi Benayoun this morning, although it looks like he could be returning to Liverpool and unlikely, very unlikely to join Newcastle.
The signing of Santon is much needed good news for Newcastle fans.
