If Newcastle can bring in a decent striker today, this transfer window may even have turned out to be a good one for Newcastle.
Papiss Demba Cissé – Magpies in today with increased bid
The signing of 20 year-old Davide Santon last night from Inter-Milan has been met with great approval and even some excitement from Newcastle fans, and the boy seems to be quite a character, and of course he has huge potential.
We also learned last night that the lad can not only play on either side of the field at full-back, but he can play in midfield as well, and started his career as a winger.
And reports this morning are that Alan Pardew is still trying to bring in 23 year-old Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga, but that may be difficult with Sochaux President Alexandre Lacombe saying last night he will not sell him unless he signs a replacement, which now seems highly unlikely.
We all know that Modibo Maiga is mustard keen to join Newcastle, but it doesn’t look like Sochaux will sell their £7M rated star today.
There is a certain feel-good mood about Newcastle, after signing the 20 year-old youngster, and Pardew told the local Newcastle press today this could help the Magpies today:
“It helps continue that. There is one more day to go.” “And obviously we are hoping to get a player in.”
Newcastle are also linked with SC Freiburg striker Papiss Demba Cisse, but Freiburg general manager Dirk Dufner told Sport informations dienst today that he’s not for sale.
Cisse has a contract at Freiburg until June 2014, and his club have already turned down a reported £10M bid from the Magpies on Monday, and the news earlier today was that the Tyneside club would go back in with an increased offer today.
SC Freiburg are said to want £13M for the 26 year-old striker, and we’re not sure if they get that kind of big offer today, whether they would sell.
This is what Freiburg’s Dufner said today:
“The topic of getting a transfer is a closed one.” “He is to remain with us and we are purely delighted.”
“He is a special player and we are favored by fortune to have him under contract.” “We are looking forward to relishing this circumstance for a bit longer.”
Cisse has a great record in Germany since signing on for Freiburg from FC Metz back in 2009, and in 43 games he has scored 34 goals, and this season he has hit four goals in three games, and would be a tremendous signing for Newcastle.
Let’s put it this way, if Newcastle can sign Cisse today there wouldn’t be too many fans displeased with getting Santon and Cisse in the last 36 hours of this transfer window. We may even have a good side this season!
And it will be huge profits for the German club if they sell Cisse, because they signed him from Metz for just £1.3M in December of 2009.
Federico Macheda of Manchester United has also been lined up for a loan move to Newcastle, and Newcastle are said to be in pole position to do the deal, according to his agent, Giovanni Bia, with Queens Park Rangers also interested.
And news this morning that Newcastle have also been offered central midfielder Sulley Muntari from Inter Milan, and he was on loan at Sunderland last season, but beware of players you are offered, especially on the very last day of the transfer window.
Muntari’s agent Claudio Mossio said today:
“Muntari wants to play in the Premier League.” “He really likes that tournament and his family would be very happy in London.”
It’s very doubtful if Newcastle would even be interested in the 27 year-old Ghana International.
So Newcastle seem to be in moves for Cisse and Maiga today, but they look very difficult to pull off, but we’d be happy enough if we can get Macheda in on loan for the season – we suppose.
At least it will give Davide Santon somebody to talk with until he learns English.
Howay The Lads!!
