Sky Sports are reporting that Birmingham are closing in on a deal for Newcastle United’s young striker Nile Ranger.
Nile Ranger – Birmingham back in for him
Cameron Jerome is moving to Stoke City and former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is trying to sign Nile Ranger as a replacement, since the lad seems to have no future now on Tyneside.
There was news that Blackpool were in talks with the 20 year-old a couple of days ago, with the fee already agreed between Newcastle and Blackpool, and thought to be around £1M.
But Blackpool have apparently switched their attentions to Sheffield United’s Daniel Bogdanovic, so we assume that once again terms could not be agreed with Ranger, who signed a five year deal on Tyneside only last October.
Hughton used Nile Ranger at Newcastle during the promotion season, when he was the Magpies’ manager, and he guided the well, and it could be a good move personally for the Londoner, who seems to have slipped back to his old ways recently.
It’s not the first time that Hughton has been after Ranger, but previously he had tried to get the 20 year-old on loan, but Newcastle would like a permanent deal for the player, who joined Newcastle from Southampton in August of 2008.
We would expect this deal to go through today.
Comments welcome.

Barton who could only get into the team out of position?
HBA is a midfielder.
Vuckic aint exactly made of glass, had a couple of serious injuries and picked up a hand injury the other day.
RW is where we need reinforcements like!

Comment #44I really hope we don’t bring Macheda in on loan. I’d rather develop our youngsters ( sammy, vukic) than man utds.

Comment #50QPR with Barton, Bellamy and Taraabt. Taraabt is a very greedy player, can just imagin Bellamy’s reaction when he makes all the runs and Taraabt doesnt pass to him.
We should go for Onouha. A defence of Onouha, Taylor, Collocini & Santon would be very good. Nice mix of height, pace, strength and skill. Wont happen though. Looks like my prediction yesterday of Santon, Elliot and Macheda will come off. An i told you so may have to come out tomorrow.

Comment #53I cant make my mind up on Balotelli, the Sochaux president has said that Maiga could move in January but wont be leaving today…
Balotelli on a 6month loan deal then Maiga in January may not be as stupid as it sounds
Not particularly sure I want his ego and character but him and Ben Arfa up front… hmmm

Comment #59Haven’t seen anyone mention it, but Santon’s agent was on skysports news and he made sure he stressed that when in negotiations, they were hugely impressed by how much Llambias et al wanted to sign Santon and he passed this commitment on to Davide.
For all the grief they have been getting, good things have to be praised as well and this is a potential world class signing. Well done and great the deal is completed. They turned down other premier league clubs as well, to make sure he came to Newcastle. More of the same please chairman.

He could be immense for us, but like I said before, needs a LOT of man management!
BUT, like Macheda, why nurture someone else’s talent with little reward other than them coming back and biting us in the arse in years to come!?

Comment #61I’d rather Balotelli than Cisse, Macheda, Maiga etc…
He drives around with 100,000s in cash on his front passenger seat, and when a kid turned up at training with a bruise, he asked what was wrong – turned out he was getting bullied at school, so Balotelli drove him down there to confront and show that the kid was cool.
*admittedly, none of these reasons are footballing ones, but i dont reckon he’d be spitting the dummy that much cos he’d play week in, week out.
and he’s Santon’s best mate!!

Comment #69I know I am whinging lads but I am gutted about us trying to get a striker in on the last day. This club as always had strikers who are know around the globe But here we are desperately trying to buy unknown strikers who are unproven. Other clubs will make it difficult for us today to sell there best players as they need replacements. Not everyone is like greedy Ashley who sells is star forward 2 mins before deadline
