Metro is reporting tonight that FC Twente striker Bryan Ruiz has rejected a move to Newcastle to join Fulham.
Oh no!
Bryan Ruiz – chooses Fulham
The Magpies had tried to hijack Fulham’s Bryan Ruiz transfer with a very late offer of £10.6M, which matched the earlier Fulham bid, but when you are late to the game, it’s rare that you can get your man.
The Costa Rican striker is believed to have chosen the London club, and is said to have even completed a medical.
Newcastle are still after Liam Ridgewell, the Birmingham defender, but it’s a top striker that Newcastle have been short of since last January, when Andy Carroll was sold to Liverpool.
The BBC is reporting that Newcastle reached an agreement of £12M with FC Twente for the player, but it was probably €12M which is around £10.8M as quoted by Metro, but the move apparently then broke down over the Costa Rican’s personal terms.
So it’s hard to believe the club have dropped the ball and not replaced Andy Carroll with the £35M they received for the Gateshead lad in January.
This is not good, if indeed this news on Ruiz is true, which it now seems to be from two separate sources, and it will put a bit of a wet blanket on the transfer season for Newcastle this summer.
Let’s be straight here – Newcastle’s number one target this summer has always been to sign a top striker good enough to wear the number 9 shirt at Newcastle , and the club didn’t get the job done.
A very good question to ask the Newcastle board is why not?
Comments welcome.

Comment #81Seriously not bothered we haven’t got anyone else in.
Defensively, we seem to be better than we’ve been for a very long time and Santon will only strengthen us in that area even more (as well as going forward).
Raylor, Simo, Saylor, Colo, Santon, Fergie, Willo, Kadar
Midfield is MILES better than it was.
Tiote, Cabaye, HBA, Obertan, Jonas, Marvaeux, Gosling and Vuckic
Forwards
Ba, Best, Ameobi x 2, Loven, Ranger
Squad is decent to be fair.
Ba and Best is easily our top 2 strikers and Nile could be 3rd if he knuckles down. Sammy could play up top but I don’t see any space for Loven or Shola.

Comment #85Can the deludede FatAsh clan please make your selves known !!! Day of reckonong for all those fence sitters and those who say ‘we must spend our money wisely’.
All in all an excellent window for FatAsh – just hope these players are good enough to make up for a lack of a proven CF and the lack of cover for injuries at teh back – or its back to the chumpionship

Comment #88After months of judge them at the end of the window what do the eternal optimists think now like??? I’m sure now it will be stay positive, get behind the team, we’ll sign someone in January.etc.etc.. What a complete load of tosh and you have to be a massive bellend to believe any of it.

Comment #92Let’s all guess Pardew’s excuse tomorrow. I’ll go with
”Well we tried, but players and clubs were trying to play hardball with us. Ashley has guaranteed that we will reinvest into the squad in January.”
*same thing happens on January 31st and rinse and repeat excuses*

Comment #94if we were willing to spend over 10 million on a player why at no other point did we bid that high earlier in the window for anyone
Its all a load of bull for the pro Ashley gang
So many strikers out there far better than what we have to offer ,
West ham have spent more and wage bill must be double ours currently.
least we havent bid for C Cole ……………….. thats me being positive

Comment #98Gutted Ruiz isn’t coming, mostly cause I got hyped up after we supposedly made a bid for him. Really after the cherry on top for this window, that however is looking doubtful…
Hopefully Ba will step up his game ;D

Comment #99Well this is quite a shame. We have got a very good squad I think, but a real missed opportunity for getting in one last addition which would have been the most important…a striker. Ridgewell would of been a good addition as well, but now all of a sudden we are a team what could be drawing 0-0, losing 1-0 or hopefully winning 1-0. Forward’s do look like they lack goals, but maybe Ba or Best can solve our problems.

At the other end of the spectrum. We’ve sold our 4 key performers from last season and are probably the only club to make a profit this window.
Actually Everton are going to make a profit too with the selling of Arteta, but you get my point. We could have had a great window if we bid £2-3m more for several of the players we were linked with. Just disappointed, that’s all.
