Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle could make a move, which is rather late, to sign Bryan Ruiz, the 26 year-old Costa Rica winger who plays at FC Twente.
Bryan Ruiz – FC Twente winger – fee already agreed with Fulham
But Fulham have already agreed a fee with FC Twente for the 6’2″ tall player, and this to us seems a little bit of a desperate move from Newcastle, and we can only assume their efforts to sign a new striker have gone nowhere today.
Newcastle are said to have made an enquiry about the winger to FC Twente, the club they bought Cheick Tiote from a year ago, so they had better quickly match what Fulham are willing to pay, if they stand any chance of pulling this deal off.
But Fulham must still be favorites to sign Ruiz, and the only chance is that the Newcastle approach is favored by the Costa Rican International , but he may already have agreed wages with Fulham, so it’s a little late and seems a little desperate.
But the move is apparently not yet decided as Ruiz’s agent Walter Mortelmans said:
“Nothing is settled yet. We will make a decision later on tonight.”
But the fee is said to be a massive £10M.
It would appear from this late move, that Newcastle are not faring too well in their attempts to get a forward into the club by 11:00 pm tonight.
Ruiz joined FC Twente in July of 2009 for around £4M, from Belgium club Gente, and in 61 appearances for the Dutch club he has scored an impressive 39 goals.
Bryan has also played 39 times for Costa Rica with 7 goals.
Newcastle have brought seven players in so far in this transfer window, and they have also let six players go, and the net transfer cost just happens to be almost exactly zero right now.
So maybe Newcastle are trying, with less than six hours to go in the window, to actually spend some net money in this transfer window, but what have they been doing over the last three months?
As we said this doesn’t look good.
Comments welcome.

@JackButler,
MA: “Oh we have signed JJ Hooper and he’s like a new player! He will be our number 9 in 15 years and I won’t sell him unless someone bid him for 2 cans of peanuts! What are you guys complaining about?”

Comment #11Bryan Ruiz is actually a really good player… and he can also play as a second forward right behind a classic 9… (demba ba, ameobi, best) I think this will be great. if Newcastle can pull it off…

Comment #12I am happy with our signings tbh but a striker would have been good. Santon is a top signing, still over the moon with that lol.

Comment #27As I said yesterday and earlier, we won’t be signing a player. Pardew will come out with “We tried etc..” and that’ll be that. The fans will be pissed off but nothing will be done about it and the cycle will repeat itself at the end of January.

Comment #30As per usual we’ll get the old… “We tried to get several players in but there clubs wouldn’t play ball or players wage demands were to excessive, blah blah blah blah blah!!!!”. 7 months to find a quality f#cking striker to replace Avatar and get him over the line yet once again were down to the last few hours and what do you know….. NO NEW STRIKER AND NOT A PENNY SPENT!!!!!!!! F#CK YOU ASHLEY!!!!!!!!

Comment #31He’s left footed anyway, still not sure if he’s a winger or a striker but 39 goals in 61 games are the kind of stats you’d expect from a striker
