Newcastle Make Improved Offer For Senegal Striker

Newcastle were linked with Freiburg’s Papiss Demba Cisse on Monday, and there is news this morning that Newcastle are trying to sign the Senegal International striker today.

Papiss Demba Cisse – Newcastle back in for striker

The Daily Mail is reporting that not only were Newcastle interested in the striker, but Newcastle bid £10M for him on Monday,  but his German club turned down the bid.

The news yesterday is that it could be difficult to bring Modibo Maiga to Newcastle from Sochaux,  because the French club will not sell unless they can get a replacement in today, but that will be difficult after they missed out to St. Etienne last night for Leeds’ Max Gradel.

Newcastle are after a top striker who can wear the famous number 9 shirt vacated by Andy Carroll, and the news is that Newcastle will go back in for the Senegal striker today with an increased bid.

However, news from Sky Sports this morning says that SC Freiburg will resist any deal today.

Since joining SC Freiburg in 2009 from Metz, the 26 year-old 6′ striker has scored 34 goals in 43 appearances for the Bundesliga side, and could join another Senegal International striker already on Tyneside, Demba Ba.

Marvin Ogunjimi of Genk

And the Mail is reporting that if they cannot get Papiss Demba Cissé today, Newcastle will make a move for Genk and Belgium International striker Marvin Ogunjimi in a £5M  bid.

The Genk player has been interesting Fulham, but the London side seem to be after a loan deal for Marseille’s Andre Pierre Gignac, and a £10M deal for FC Twente’s Bryan Ruiz, which Sky Sports reported last night was close to completion.

The 23 year-old Belgium born striker Ogunjimi has played four times for Belgium, and would appear to be Newcastle’s third choice after Maiga and Papiss Demba Cisse.

But it also seems that Newcastle are determined to bring in another striker today.

Nothing like leaving things to the last minute, but we still hope they can get the business done.

Get this lad in, very good goalscoring record… a Cheeky loan bid for macheda or sturridge would be nice too. Very impressed with the Santon signing

ohhh i really hopes so, hes got great record in germany for friedburg – wor lass is from there and if he can score that many for them (as they are shite) then he can get that many for us. The Marvin fella i dont know, but record seems good. As for loaning man u kid, im not convinced, i would only want that as last resort.

if we get Papiss – i would be v glad for 2 reasons.
1: Ashely would have opened wallet more than we imagined and that would give morale a huge boost.
2:Papiss is an awesome name – he could be pap or he could be piss but no hes paiss !!!!

Not sure how this is leaving it to the last minute, we still have at least 27hrs left in this transfer window & thats loads of time…

The problem we have is, the muckems are also after this guy & I’m not sure if they have the money or wage capacity to beat us to him… the other problem is, will Ashley allow Pardew to spend €15m on a striker, thats about £13m which if it happens, would be Ashley largest outlay on a player 😮

Personally I hope we get another striker in but I’m not fussed who it is, as I think Ranger could be on his way to Blackpool today also, that will leave us with a gap, especially with Airey being at Hins on loan….

    Would LOVE Cisse, awesome striker…
    Him and BA up top…

It would cap off an amazing transfer window, best in years by a mile.

See, we don’t need trophy signings to improve our squad.

    How can anyone be negative?

Anyone wanna check the names we’ve rejected out?

Why people want Maiga so much? His stats are average at best. What is so special about him? So many strikers out there (just need to pay for them with cash and not monopoly money).

Situ is a youngster. He can be bought only as afuture (future future) prospect. no?

Something tells me it’s a bit about the money, but Situ has a bigger chance of a permanent 1st team spot at Swansea, and he’d be right i think.
It may be all about being able to get play time.

no chance of getting cisse, they want real money for him, we wont pay, just another red herring, will end up with someone under 5 million, But I would settle for that at the moment plus another defender, as long as we dont sell anybody else I will be quite happy

Sorry for negativity gents but I can see Macheda arriving on loan, full stop. It’s the story of the whole transfer window- low bid after low bid rejected. Fatso will never shell out £14m on a striker or pay the wages required to sign them. We’ve had 100 days of this window now with 35m or so to replace Carroll, and he has not spent any of it yet. I just can’t see why that would change now we have only 14 hours left. I sincerely hope I’m wrong, and will come on here and tuck into some humble pie if I am, but I can see us playing until at least January with Besty, Strolla, McLoven and Co. possibly with Machida on loan in addition. HWTL
