Newcastle United new signing, Davide Santon, has given his first interview on nufcTV.
Davide Santon with Alan Pardew – the next Paulo Maldini?
And Davide gives the interview in Italian which is translated on the screen, and for important interviews like this it’s a pity the club don’t make them more widely available.
The youngster comes across great in his first interview.
Davide said he can play either side of the field and either in defense of midfield, and from what he says Davide could even end up playing in midfield for Newcastle in seasons ahead.
The youngster has had remarkable success at Inter Milan for one so young, but he said that success in Milan was difficult, because he had to leave home when he was so young at just 14.
They talked about Santon marking Manchester United’s Ronaldo on his Champions League debut and Jose Mourhino, the Inter Milan manager at the time, said he was a great young player and the next Paulo Maldini, one of the all time greats of Italian football.
Davide was asked if he agreed with the assessment and he said yes – 100% – as he laughed.
He also said that his move to Newcastle will help his International career, because the Italian manager Cesare Prandelli said that as long as he is playing first team football he will be in the Italian side, and that the manager had told him he had complete faith in the youngster’s abilities
For the last season or so Davide couldn’t get a place in the Inter-Milan first team, and when asked how many caps he would like to get for Italy he said – many.
Davide has 7 caps for his country so far.
He also said it was his dream to be able to speak English and that he was looking forward to learning English, and I cannot wait to hear the young Italian speak English with a Geordie accent.
Can you imagine a conversation in English between Tim Krul and Davide Santon in a year’s time?
He also seems to be a big Playstation fan, and when asked if he had ever faced Cristiano Ronaldo before the European Champions League game, he smiled – only on Playstation.
This lad comes over so well, and of course we know the Newcastle fans will give him a big warm welcome on Tyneside.
I’m still pinching myself, because it seems the club have signed an awesome young talent in Santon.
Now for a top striker today, and we’ll be on our way.
