Santon – Newcastle Move Will Help My International Career

Newcastle United new signing, Davide Santon,  has given his first interview on nufcTV.

Davide Santon with Alan Pardew – the next Paulo Maldini?

And Davide gives the interview in Italian which is translated on the screen, and for important interviews like this it’s a pity the club don’t make them more widely available.

The youngster comes across great in his first interview.

Davide said he can play either side of the field and either in defense of midfield, and from what he says Davide could even end up playing in midfield for Newcastle in seasons ahead.

The youngster has had remarkable success at Inter Milan for one so young, but he said that success in Milan was difficult,  because he had to leave home when he was so young at just 14.

They talked about Santon marking Manchester United’s Ronaldo on his Champions League debut and Jose Mourhino, the Inter Milan manager at the time, said he was a great young player and the next Paulo Maldini, one of the all time greats of Italian football.

Davide was asked if he agreed with the assessment and he said yes – 100% – as he laughed.

He also said that his move to Newcastle will help his International career, because the Italian manager Cesare Prandelli said that as long as he is playing first team football he will be in the Italian side, and that the manager had told him he had complete faith in the youngster’s abilities

For the last season or so Davide couldn’t get a place in the Inter-Milan first team, and when asked how many caps he would like to get for Italy he said – many.

Davide has  7 caps for his country so far.

He also said it was his dream to be able to speak English and that he was looking forward to learning English, and I cannot wait to hear the young Italian speak English with a Geordie accent.

Can you imagine a conversation in English between Tim Krul and Davide Santon  in a year’s time?

He also seems to be a big Playstation fan, and when asked if he had ever faced Cristiano Ronaldo before the European Champions League game, he smiled – only on Playstation.

This lad comes over so well, and of course we know the Newcastle fans will give him a big warm welcome on Tyneside.

I’m still pinching myself,  because it seems the club have signed an awesome young talent in Santon.

Now for a top striker today, and we’ll be on our way.

Comments welcome.

From SSN: Speculation: But reports in Germany insist Freiburg will not listen to any offers for Cisse today.
    ———-

No chance we’ll get Cisse in today. Its too late and last day deals will result us in paying even more money which we all know Ashley won’t.

I really hope we push our striker deal for January. Let give us 4 months for Leon Best and Demba Ba to prove their partnership.

We don’t have any real need for a striker really. Its just being overhyped. We can afford it delayed for January no problem. We have 5 players fighting for that lone spot.

Help with his international career? I’m not so sure about that, especially when you’re talking bout playing for Newcastle United

Good coup though, young lad, bags of potential. Impressive height too, already better than Simpson in all aspects

    😆

I’m hoping for Cisse mate, really am, if we want him, we can get him, thing is, we won’t overspend tho, no matter what.

I think Maiga is more realistic option than Cisse at this point tbh.
My head goes Maiga, my heart goes Cisse.

    @arcarius
The Italy manager has said to Santon that as long as he plays regularly in the first team, he’ll get called up.
Santon said that in the NUFCTV interview.

In these last hours of the summer mercato, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard just save the reinforcement of a new striker. Eager to leave Stade Rennais, where he felt more in odour of sanctity, Abdoul Camara has, according to West France, initialled a contract of four seasons with the Cubs

Dannyo – Same here dude… I watched a few clips last week of Cisse and that boy can score goals… although Maiga aint too shabby at scoring either… They are both quick but I am channelling Cisse to move.. Frieburg said today that will refuse all offers today.. sure the player is pleased with that… Santon was a good buy – good advertisement for NUFC in Europe.. buying a player from Inter Milan!! What next eh? 🙂

I hope we sign Situ, a CB (or two) is need urgently.

Agaist Fulham the only defender on the bench was Ferguson.

No CB, to be honest no FB cover as Ferguson is really a left-winger.

Just an observation after reading the last 24 hrs blogs:

The serial whingers and neggers on here prior to Davide Santon were saying “we will absolutely, definately, no-way sign anyone this window”

Since the Santon signing they’re now saying ” we will absolutely, definately, no-way sign a striker this window”

    hmmm interesting

Bit concerned now especially as Stoke can land Bendtner and Jerome it seems, and the scum Crouch. People may not want them at us but I’d take Jerome – point is they all have prem experience. In the window is it 2/7 that have prem experience? Will take a while to bed them in, Collo and Enrique took a season. French league is more similar than Spainish granted just wish we’d gone for a few players as well like Dann, Jerome, Sturridge etc. Hoping Carr has an ace or three up his sleeve.

Oh and I know no one cares but for the record since this window opened we’ve earned 12.5mill from player sales(Nolan,Enrique,Routledge) and spent 12.5mill on transfer fees(Cabaye,Obertan,Santon) Now we can add Elliot to that list. Considering our previous offer was 100k what do you think we got him for. Between 150 and 200k? Where will we receive the money from for a new striker? Or will it just be a loan signing??? Hope to God I’m proven wrong but i’ll remain sceptical until then.

    @barryvenison

I read somewhere that it’s thought we paid 300K for Elliot.
So that brings us to a whopping 12.8 million.
Hoping for Cisse, but can realistically see Maiga coming.

GG doesn’t at the moment. Shame the season isn’t 3 games long. It would be good to have a “good squad” with options. Not saying none of them wont adapt PDQ, what’s wrong with a little bit more spent on a few Brits or Prem players as a comfort blanket etc

Bri H – I think Jerome is very under estimated, he did a good job for Brum last season and has that bit of pace that our strikers don’t quite have. Also it’s about who we can attract and Id rather have him than some complete unknown or a Fergie youngster for us to blood over our own.

We should go all out for cisse ,been ages since we had all this excitement ,of course if we can agree a fee with Freiburg ,demba Ba could be big pulling power for cisse ,as they will be pals from senegal national team .
