Why does Mike Ashley own Newcastle United is a question on many Newcastle fans minds right now – why did Mike Ashley buy Newcastle and what does he want to do with the club.
Mike Ashley – needs to communicate with fans
And since Ashley never ever talks to the fans about what he wants to do with Newcastle, we have absolutely no idea.
Back in 2009, Derek LLambias did meet with the local Newcastle press and said that Newcastle would look towards younger players, who could improve, and whose value would rise once they arrived at Newcastle.
And there are some good examples of players like that in the squad today in Cheick Tiote and Yohan Cabaye.
LLambias did say it would be a slow process, but he did talk about a five year plan in 2009, and that by the time 2014 rolls around, Newcastle would be fighting for trophies.
We wonder.
Some of the things he has done are good, and we have certainly made some bargain buys, but we’ve also had top players leave the club this year, because they seriously doubt the ambitions of the club.
One of the biggest failings of Mike Ashley at Newcastle. and we’ve said it for years, has been his complete failure to communicate with the fans, and it’s hardly a surprise he is not liked in Newcastle.
In that sense he’s been his own worst enemy on Tyneside over the last four years.
Fans have no idea what he’s really trying to do with the club, and if he is just going to keep them ticking over as a mid-table side in the Premier League as long as possible, what’s the point of that?
The Journal (Mark Douglas) is suggesting this morning that Newcastle may talk about their aims and ambitions for the club in a statement they could issue today.
Doesn’t Mike Ashley have a duty to tell Newcastle fans what his aims and ambitions are for the club?
The answer to that has to be a resounding yes, but Mike moves to the beat of his own drum.
And that beat seems to be a lot different to what most Newcastle fans want to hear.
The single biggest thing Ashley has failed to do in the four years he’s been owner of Newcastle United, is to communicate regularly with Newcastle fans.
If he can start doing that today, it may be a step in the right direction, but we are not holding our breath either.
Comments welcome.

Comment #162I’ll complain as much as I like. We were told by Pardew and many on here to not judge until Sep.1st. Well that time has come and i’m hugely underwhelmed. What happen’s if Colo or Taylor get hurt?Perch at CB?Your having a laugh. Promised a striker since January and told by Pardew repeatedly after signing BA on a free that we would bring in a striker. Over and over and it didn’t happen because our owner refuses to reinvest. How could you be happy with that?

Comment #167For everyone bitching on here. I am not a supporter of MA but i will say this once more as I have all summer. In capitals as well.
MA IS NOT PROFITING FROM THE SELLING OF PLAYERS. THE CLUB IS BUT MA ISNT. AS MUCH AS EVERYONE WANTS TO THINK THAT HE IS POCKETING MONEY. HE LEGALLY CANT. HE WOULD BE SENT DOWN. YOU CANT JUST TAKE MONEY OUT OF A COMPANY. OR NOT EASILY. THE ONLY WAY MA RECEIVES ANY MONEY FROM NUFC IS THROUGH DIVIDENDS AND WHEN HE EVENTUALLY SELLS UP. AND RECOVERING HIS OWN LOANS. SO THE ONLY WAY THAT £35M WENT BACK TO MA IS BY PAYING BACK MONEY THE CLUB OWES HIM ALREADY. WHICH IS FAR FROM STEALING IS IT?

Comment #168@ Woodsee – But he benefitted from it and is where he is now but I doubt he’ll care as much scoring goals for liverpool as he did us.
You reckon he’ll ever kiss the badge after scoring?!
Best and ba have a better scoring record than Carroll and are not ever going to be considered to wear the #9 shirt, but because this booze fuelled lout was from the City he was?
Suddenly the shirt doesn’t seem so sacred/valued.
Was Houghton wrong to give it to him?

Comment #171@ Dave1961 – if 8 in 13 or whatever isn’t a big enough hint for you that he maybe could mate then we’ll just have to agree to disagree!
Carroll is 3 years younger than him yet had more PL experience and was coached and trained with Shearer et al.
Amazed that you’re not willing to take a punt on him. Imagine where we’d be if that was the stance taken on Carroll/any other young striker?

Correct. But hatred is blind as you have seen and read. A blog is all about differing opinions but facts should not be overlooked. That is real facts about the club, management, playing staff, transfers. Unfortunately real business is not like premier management or other games that some seem to believe in. Not many businesses if any let the public at large no what is going on internally. Yes football is different, because we care and have a passion about OUR club. We do lack communication in general but there again anything that is said is dismissed my many. Remember when Ashley first arrived, the majority of fans loved him, drank with him, sat next to him. Then Keegangate. Keegan walked out on everybody, the club, players, fans, the town, with a few million in his pocket from the club and people hated Ashley. He is still here, saying nowt and not taking money out of the club.

Comment #177The problem I have with the Ashley ownership is, not knowing what his plans and ambitions for the club are.
They seemed to be trying to get in a striker- I believe they would have taken Ruiz! but the crazy thing is once you’ve got to the last 2 hours of the transfer window and you’re committed to signing someone then you have to close the deal.
The reasoning is if you’re gonna spend 12 million then you must be prepared to back that up with wages; to have failed to sign a striker is the difference between mid table or pushing for europe at the end of the season.
I mean if they had said we aint gonna sign a striker then that’s fine but when a club as big as Newcastle cant get someone then there is no will.
All the other clubs were able to do that; look at Arteta at Arsenal and Crouchy at Stoke. I know Cahill didnt but thats Bolton chairman being a nob.
Again, if they identified the need for a striker they had 8 months to sort it. It makes you wonder what’s going on; is Lambias negotiating without the final say and this causes delays; do they really want to sign a striker? god knows
FFS MA please talk to us!!

Comment #178Only Ashley himself could answer that question Ed – go on be a little devil, write to him asking the question.
All I know is that until our club learn the art of communication with its fans and the media and practice good customer relations, the club will never truly prosper.

Comment #180I think at first he did want to enjoy running the club- and ‘have a bit of fun’ look at the amount he spent when he first came in under big sam, and the way he used to sit in the stands. And to be honest his fingers got burnt- we made some atrocious signings, and let players like Scott Parker go. Since then I think the animosity from the fans has lead to a complete lack of interest from Ashley who now only wishes to sell up and not have to put any more of his own money into the club. Simples.

Comment #183So – if we’d signed Bryan Ruiz would all this shouting and bawling still be going on?
I doubt it.
So, Ashley fails to sign a striker – and I agree he should have done no question – BUT does that one failure in this transfer window mean that all the other good signings count for nowt?
The posts on here are a typically ridiculous over reaction. Would you have preferred Ashley to spend £10M on the likes of Crouch? Or £3M on Cameron Jerome? Or £4M on Beckford?
We offered £12M for Ruiz, but too late. Ashley fcked up not getting a striker but not for the want of trying. He won’t pay stupid transfer fees and especially stupid wages that break the new structure he has put in place. I agree with that.
We’ve got a striker, Best, who has scored a goal in every two Prem games, Ba who scored 7 in 10 and HBA to come back soon. It aint anywhere NEAR as bad as some of you lot make out.

Comment #186Derek Lamearse has failed miserably in his assigned task to get a new no.9 and should be sacked immediately. For the sake of an extra 2m to get Cisse a prolific striker in Germany the club now lose 20m+ in terms of empty seats, shirt sales and possibly league position! Ashley needs to replace Lamearse and tell the new man to get Cisse or someone equally prolific in on a pre contract agreement now so the fans know things are already in place for the next window and get Pieters and a CB also. If Ashley doesn’t sack Lamearse for costing the club millions he obviously isn’t as financially astute as given credit for!

Comment #187Having said that I still feel that Best looks more like a Premiership striker this season already and can get up to 20 goals wii a run in the team, maybe more if we can get Ben Arfa fit and playing alongside him for the rest of the season! HAWAY THE LADS
