It seems that Newcastle will be bringing in some new players in January.
Danny Simpson – position under threat at Newcastle
But some will also be leaving, and the writing seems to be on the wall for Danny Simpson, and it appears he could be the next player to make a move away from Newcastle.
Simpson even came close to leaving Newcastle for Aston Villa on Wednesday, but it would seem that Newcastle will now be after another full-back, and maybe they can bring in Erik Pieters of PSV in January, and play Davide Santon at right back.
But there’s no doubt that Newcastle scouts will be checking on a number of full-backs over the next few months, and while they are doing that, they could also look for another center-back to strengthen the Newcastle defense in general.
It seems that Newcastle are not convinced that Simpson is the right man for the right back position, but they offered him a five year contract, but he has not signed that.
Sorry to be so picky, but if they think he’s not the right man for the job, why offer him a five year deal?
Simpson’s position in the side is under threat, and even young James Tavernier could be challenging for that right back position before the end of the season, and certainly Simpson would not be happy sitting on the bench.
Another combination could be playing Shane Ferguson at left back and Davide Santon at right back, two young 20 years olds on Tyneside.
It seems that Simpson would like to stay on Tyneside, but there has been interest in him from Aston Villa, Glasgow Celtic and QPR over the summer, and from what the Sunday Sun is reporting today, it seems Newcastle would be willing to sell him.
We think Newcastle could still bring Dutch International Erik Pieters to Tyneside in January, and apparently Newcastle were close to signing Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga on Wednesday.
Maiga is one Newcastle will go after again in January, at least according to today’s Sunday Sun, but we think that Pappa Demba Cisse would be an even better buy from SC Freidburg.
One thing we’d hope Newcastle will do, if they are indeed to bring new players in during January, is to work on the deals now, and get the new players through the door in early January.
It’s all a little bit early to talk about what Newcastle will do in the January window, after they failed to get the job done and bring in a new number 9 striker over the summer.
But if the club can tie up some deals before January, and then bring them in early in January, that would be good news for Newcastle fans.
Hope springs eternal.
