Newcastle Players In Action For Their Countries

Tim Krul, Yohan Cabaye and Jonas Gutierrez were all on the bench in the first games of the International break.

Joan Edmundsson – played full game against Italy

Tim was on the bench in Holland’s 11-0 trouncing of Sam Marino, who are ranked 203rd of 203 football countries by FIFA, and Holland are ranked number one.

Maarten Stekelenburg was in goal for Holland, and the goalkeeper signed on at Roma from Ajax last month in a €6M deal.

It seems that Maarten may still be number one goalkeeper,  but Tim Krul is next in line and could still force his way in front of the new Roma keeper.

The beaten World Cup finalists should qualify easily for next summer’s tournament, having won all their seven games in their group E, and are 6 points ahead of Sweden in second place.

We should also see Yohan Cabaye in next year’s European Championships, with France beating Albania 2-1 away, but Yohan did not get an outing in that game, and remained on the bench.

France should qualify from their group and  they have 16 points from 7 games, and are currently 3 points clear of Bosnia Herzegovina.

Jonas Gutierrez, recalled to the Argentine squad, was on the bench for the full game, as Argentina beat Venezuela 1-0 in a friendly match in Calcutta.

And Faroe Islands International Joan Edmundsson, who is now 20 and  doesn’t seem to get much of a chance at Newcastle, played the full game in his sides 1-0 defeat to Italy, at the Torsvollor Stadium in front of 6,000 fans.

And the Faroe Islands almost brought off a sensational result when they hit the woodwork twice in that game. Italy are ranked 7th in the FIFA rankings with the Faroe Islands are ranked in 111th place.

Italy top their group C with 19 points from their 7 games, and the the Faroe Islands remain bottom on 4 points.  Edmundsson had a very decent game against Italy, and went close a couple of times in that game.

In the European U21 Championships Shane Ferguson played for the Northern Ireland under-21s side that lost 1-0 in Serbia but Tamas Kadar wasn’t even on the bench in Hungary’s 2-1 defeat by Ireland at the Showgrounds.

did Kadar even play during pre-season? I dont remember him playing at all like.

Has he even played a reserve game this season at least?

He had so much promise a few years ago and he seems to have just disappeared off the map like.

Interesting to note that out of our “Squad full of International Players” only a low ranking reserve actually got a game!! There was a time when virtually half the squad would be playing at these times.

What has happened to Scotland? They used to have great players in most of the English top teams – NUFC has had more than a fair share of them over the years from Gordon Marshal in goal, all the way through to Bobby Moncur & beyond. Its sad to see!!

Isnt he injured? He seems always injured tbf

His loan last season lasted 2 games because he got injured so maybe NUFC is just tired of having him on the injury table?
