Newcastle Bid For Papiss Cisse Was Too Low And Too Late

There is report in Kicker magazine that Newcastle failed to sign 26 year-old Papiss Cisse last Wednesday afternoon for two major reasons.

Papiss Demba Cisse – Newcastle should go after him now

One reason was the bid was too low, and the other was that the bid was far too late, and it gave no time to allow Freiburg to get in a suitable replacement.

But we think it was a panic move by Newcastle, because other targets were not coming through as expected, like the bid for Modibo Maiga, which seems to have been the one that came closest to completion, until Sochaux inexplicably pulled the plug on Wednesday afternoon.

Sporting Club Freiburg’s Director Dirk Dufner said that it was true that Newcastle tried to buy their star striker last Wednesday,  but the move was so late that it just didn’t give the German side enough time to find a replacement

The offer was £7M and that was about half of what Freiburg had valued their striker at, so they were not too impressed with the offer from the Tyneside club in the first place.

This is what Dirk Dyufner said to Kicker magazine:

“For starters, Newcastle United’s offer was not high enough in our opinion and secondly, it was impossible for us to adequately deal with his departure so soon before the transfer window closed,”

The 26-year-old agreed to join Freiburg from French club FC Metz in late December of  2009 for around £1.3M, and has done really well at the German club hitting 34 goals in only 53 appearances, and he would seem to be an excellent target for Newcastle.

Cisse has a contract with Freiburg until the summer of 2014 and this season he has already scored 4 goals in his three appearances.

If Newcastle have any sense they could get into negotiations right now for the player, agree a fee and terms for the player, and that would allow SC Freiburg to look for a suitable replacement before the new year, and then the deal to bring Cisse to Newcastle could be carried out in early January.

That’s if Newcastle have any sense.

But Newcastle have gone quite a way in various negotiations for some good players this summer, and it’s not unrealistic to think they could get deals agreed in the next few weeks and have them close in early January.

We hope that’s just exactly what happens, and that it includes bringing Papiss Dembe Cisse to Tyneside.

The club messed up late in the transfer window, there’s no doubt about that, but they could make up for that with a couple or three great signings in January,

What do you think?

There is no way on earth that Wenger would work under Ashley. Surely that is the most ludicrous rumor in years.

    Also, 7m? I’ve heard they offered 5m, 7m, 9m, 12m, and 13m.

It’s easy to get angry at hearsay and rumors just because we’re angry. Articles like this stating things like that as fact don’t help.

Ashley has always preached about the Arsenal model and who is responsible for that? Arsene.
He would be an ideal acquistion for Ashley in a Director of Football role as he likes to spend very little and develop young talent into superstars worth a fortune.
he also likes French players and we have loads of those.
A no brainer really. And how about David Dein while we are on for Chairman?
Now that REALLY would be going places and Ashley wouldn’t have to deviate one inch from his plans and objectives.
No? Well we can all dream!

Evening lads. Long time reader first time poster. I have heard from a very reliable friend that Pardew has walked tonight. Anyone know anything further?. I wouldn’t normally post this type of thing, but he’s a 55 year old man with no reason to lie!.

Why would Pardew walk?. He must have known what he was getting into before he came here – we knew.

He has four years left on his contract, why would he quit?

But then again, why would Freddy Shepherd fire Bobby Robson?

Here’s hoping for Cisse and Pieters come January. From the video that I’ve seen of Cisse, he’s a dynamic striker who attacks the net. Figure he’d make Cabaye and the midfield better, and take some heat off Best.

Pardwho’s going no where , why do you think Ashley brought him in ,to be his vocal puppet , imo Ashley was bullied by a northen kid at an early age and this is his long term way of revenge

    Why would Pardew quit?

Easy – Isn’t he the lowest paid manager (or all but) in the PL?

Now that he has re-established his name and reputation a bit, he could certainly get a better offer.
    That’s not a prediction – but a definite possibility.

Ashley made a big mistake by failing to get in a decent striker, makes no sense which-ever way you shape and size it. He should have been grateful for the bargains he’d managed thus far in the window, and accepted that you need to pay a fair market rate for a decent striker. All he’s done is pis$ off all the fans, and expose Newcastle to risk of relegation again. For the sake a of trying to save a few mill, which isn’t much in the Prem.

Why would Pardew walk ? He’s on around 500.000 a year. If anything he’d wait to be sacked. Rumours about his debts may or may not be true. He might well be truly pi$$ed off, but half a million a year sure as hell softens the blow.

Cisse is the one for me.He’s scoring record is way better than Maiga’s.Time will tell wether we go back for him but I somehow doubt it.
We could have a Demba Demba attack 😮
