Both Dan Gosling and Ben Arfa have had a tough time of it since arriving at Newcastle last summer.
Dan Gosling – it’s been a doom and gloom year
And between them they have made only 7 appearances for the Newcastle first team between them, over the last year or so.
Newcastle fans will no doubt be hoping the two of them can start to play regularly in the first team because, they are both very good players and can do a job on Tyneside.
It was good to see Dan get a start for the England U21 side in the 4-1 win against Israel at Barnsley last night, and he played a full 62 minutes before being substituted.
Dan says last year for him was a doom and gloom year, because when he did return from his ACL knee injury last January, he had a bad reaction and missed the rest of the season after only appearing for a few minutes as a sub, at the end of the Sunderland game at the Stadium of Light.
This is what Dan said about last year:
“It was a doom and gloom year,” ” “My friends and family kept me going and I’ve had a few fallings out with the physios.”
“You have to get your head round it and as soon I did that it was a lot of hard work in the gym.” “Now I’ve made it back and hopefully fingers crossed I can keep injury free and get as many games as I can.”
“It was very nice to get a start last night, and obviously the win has capped off a good end to the week.” “We were disappointed with the first half.”
“At half-time we all came in and I think the tempo was too slow so the second half we’ve come out of the blocks; passed the ball quickly and they couldn’t live with us.”
“Mr Capello’s considering the Under-21s and he watches us closely,” “You see all the lads pushing on and you think you want to be there as well.”
“Hopefully if you’re in good form for your club then who knows?”
Dan Gosling, like Ben Arfa, will now hope they can get a long run in the first team and stay clear of injuries this season.
It must have been so frustrating for both youngsters over the last year, but unfortunately injuries are part and parcel of the game of football, and these things happen.
It’s frustrating enough just following their progress as fans, never mind having to put up with the long term injuries as the two lads have done over the last year.
However, it would be great if they can now steer well clear of any further serious injuries, and that would be great for them and for the Newcastle side too.
Here’s hoping.

Comment #3Given the attacking fringe players we have, and a few players who need reserve time to get form and fitness, our reserve team lineup could be pretty excellent in a few games! Ignoring the defence, a 4 3 3 with abied, gos and vukic playing behind a front 3 of hba ba and sameobi! Possible first team lineup in a year!

Comment #4I can’t see this lad being more than a fringe player for the time being, he will need at least a few months to shake off the rustiness. To be fair we knew he was injured when we took him on and I think he will still prove to be a good long term investment. We will have to be similarly patient with Benny but I think by January it will feel like we have two new signings…I know I’d personally not rather rush them back too soon..

Comment #5At this juncture I’d also like to wish Ed a speedy recovery, I’ve been reading this blog and sporadically posting from time to time and I’ve often respected his opinions (without always naturally agreeing). Thanks for continuing to give us the best forum to express our views and I sincerely hope that you fully recover soon.
All the best.

Comment #6I know Gosling is a CM
But what sort of CM
Box to box grafter?
Attacking?
Defensive?
Dont know a great deal about him!
I think it maybe hard for him to get alot of pitch time if Cabaye, HBA, Tiotie start performing together!

Comment #7@angry – He mostly plays as a defensive midfielder but he can be played higher up in the cabaye role to be more attacking.
He can also play on the right wing and right back if needed.

Only abuse those who abuse and who deserve it!
Always have had that policy really!
You see, like i said, I will no longer argue with the Mike Ashley supporters, in particular those who told us to wait until Spet1 and then judge as they had faith in signings in the right positions, the squad size etc etc!!
No point in arguing with those who know nowt!
😉
Can I include you in that Rotonda?
