Alan Pardew On Scouting Duty Last Night

Alan Pardew was at Switzerland’s St Jakob Park last night doing some scouting.

Alan Pardew at Switzerland – Bulgaria game last night

Switzerland beat Bulgaria 3-1, and Alan would have seen Swiss 19 year-old, Xherdan Shaqiri, score a hat-trick as Switzerland came from behind to beat Bulgaria.

The youngster plays for Basel,  and has now scored 7 goals in the fourteen times he’s played for the Swiss, which is not a bad record at all.

And another player Newcastle have fancied for at least three years, since they watched him in the last European Championships,  is Swiss striker Eren Derdiyok, who played the full game for Switzerland last night.

And another target Newcastle went after in the summer, and didn’t play last night because he’s still out injured, is 26 year-old midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta.

Both Derdiyok and Barnetta play for Bayer Leverkusen, who are in the European Champions League this season, after finishing second to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga last season.

Eren Derdiyok – played the full game for Switzerland

Newcastle brought in free agent  Shefi Kuqi earlier this year, after they had failed to bring in a replacement for Andy Carroll, which was really to make up the numbers more than anything.

But Alan Pardew is not thinking of doing the same thing this time, and we have to hope that Demba Ba, Leon Best, Peter Lovenkrands and the two Ameobi brothers can get the job done for Newcastle through the end of the year, but we’ll see.

It’s a great opportunity for those lads to show what they can do for Newcastle.

As far as who may be bought in during January we have no idea, but the club did some big scouting this year already for a striker, so why wouldn’t they pick one, and try to arrange a deal now to be completed in early January?

That seems to make big sense to us, but of course the scouting force led by Graham Carr, will be out through Christmas checking on the form of the players, and there may be some strikers the club missed in the summer, we suppose.

Comments welcome.

It’s pretty hilarious that pardew was on scouting duty to be honest, after the week that was (n’t) and all that… acting casual like no one noticed we reneged on pledge going back 7 months.. hmm – rock and a hard place mind.. the life of a patsy eh..

Boom Boom, have you seen Pappis Cisse play? Is he any good?

I get to see a few games from the German League but they mainly show Bayern Munich and I can’t say I have ever seen Pappis Cisse.

Is he worth 15 million? But then again is Crouch worth 10 million?

Just out of curiosity how much do you think Shaqiri would cost in todays market?
I know we would never be able to sign him but I see similar aged players going for 15-20 mil that just aren’t as good. I think he would cost 25 mil.
Just imagine if he was English, he would cost 80 mil.

What should he do just forget he manages a football team and go into hiding??
And in the week that wasn’t we bought the Italian U21 captain, not a shabby week, we have had worse.

@ gs i have seen him on setanta coupleof times last season and he looks an excelent prospect real pace and can score all types of goals in todays market he is worth 15m but from what ive read we aint even prepared to offer 10 so say bye bye to a “marquee” signing cos we wont get one while this guy is in charge.

Having suggested Cisse to this blog in early May asa suitable replacement striker I also suggested that Fatman should pull out all the stops to bring in Shaquiri to compliment HBA on the left together with a mobile striker such as Sturridge orLong (but clearly that ship sailed 🙁

The problem we’ll have when HBA returns is he’ll be No1 target for all opposition players and not just the cloggers. When I look back on that 7 minute video of his debut against Everton, after half time pretty much everyone on the Everton team was having a go at him as soon as he touched the ball and Jagielka clearly does a “de Jong ” scissor tackle on him at one point which the ref let go.

If you want HBA to flourish you need others to take the heat off him who are equally skilled at beating their man and posing real danger. Shaquiri would fit that bill playing alongside Khalifa his Swiss team mate who’s also 19 but currently contracted to Wolfsburg.

Sadly I predict that with no one else to assist him, HBA will be injured again before the year is out.

OttersPocket – OK sorry – hey maybe we’ll sign someone from the swiss team in January? Well at least it’s positive that we are scouting some top european talent. Maybe we’ll part with 15mil on Shaqiri?

    Is that better?

Glad to see you are staying positive given the dire start to the season we are having. Remind me, have we lost a game yet?

Anyway, I’m sure you hope we lose at QPR as you would rather say “I told you so” than see Newcastle win.

He seems like a decent bloke to me does Pardew. He has tried to be open and communicate with the fans but when ya hands are tied then there is only so much you can do. I think the fans will give him a top reception at qpr on Monday. Heading down nice and early for a good session on the drink. Hoping that Cabaye and Cheick both kick Barton 4 feet in the air.
