What Type Of Striker Will Newcastle Go After In January?

Newcastle went after Pappis Demba Cisse on the last day of the transfer window last week, when the other striker targets seemed out of reach.

Pappis Demba Cisse – a target in January?

But of course they were only out of reach because Newcastle refused to cough up the money for them, otherwise Newcastle would have had Turkish International Mevlut Erdinc on Tyneside from French club PSG, months ago.

But it seems the club are just not willing to pay even a little over the odds for any player, and it may be that their bid for Pappis Demba Cisse may  be revived in January – we hope it will be revived in January.

From the comments of his club SC Freiburg last week, it would seem the German club would have been prepared to sell him,  if only they had time to bring in a replacement, so the 26 year-old  may still be an option for Newcastle when the window opens again on January 1st.

We really have no idea who will be the striker targets in January, and if Demba Ba and Leon Best do well for Newcastle before then, who knows, maybe the powers that be at the club (Ashley and LLambias), will say Newcastle don’t need another striker.

We wouldn’t put that past Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias, who seem to want to run the club on a shoestring.

Pappis Demba Cisse is saying he’s not too disappointed at still being at his German club:

“Staying on at Freiburg is no reason for me to feel frustrated,” “I am not looking back.”

“I am attempting to start every match in the same mood as I always do. I am trying to make sure the team is successful.”

From what we’ve seen of the targets Newcastle have gone after in the summer, this lad wouldn’t be a bad choice, although he could be the most expensive, and that would be a drawback, at least in the eyes of Mike Ashley.

We’re not sure if  the Senegal International’s style is much different from that of Leon Best, Shola Ameobi and Demba Ba, his International team mate.

One reason we liked Erdinc, is that he plays in a different style to the three big strikers already on Tyneside, as does Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga.

So perhaps Newcastle will go after a striker that can add something different to what we already have on Tyneside, that would seem to make some sense.

And if that’s true, expect either Mevlut Erdinc or Modibo Maiga to arrive at Newcastle, hopefully very early in January.

What do you think?

Has to be quick with his feet and head, bit pacey, good technical.
Thats the kind of passes Arfa, Marveux and Cabaye will provide imo.

Cheap and young, not necessarily someone we are expecting – so probably not Derdiyok and Barnetta

Anyone with real talent who is not going to cost a fortune but who could grow into a 20 a season striker.
FCB and LL need to speculate to accumulate – Anywhere between 10-15 mill on a decent young striker who will add style and depth to attacking options and ruthless in finishing through passes as Dannyo @1 says

I’ll be off now guys, Nice to read some more positive things on the blog as the transfer window was painfull to say the least. As long as we support our team we’ll be ok. Lets support Pardew and the Lads, The board will have to get their acts together pretty sharpish and stop makin Pardew look like a tit all the time when it’s their fault. Magpie til I die! HWTL

We don’t need a new striker. Ben Arfa will be back soon.

“He’ll be like a new signing” When we get him “over the line”

I reckon we`l get Derdiyok and Shaqiri who Pards was looking at last night.
The board have got to spend some funds or people like me will just cancel our direct debits for our season tickets in February.
At least thats what i’m hoping for, I dont really want to give them up but I will if theres no investment in January.
My guess is that I wont be alone in this, and Ashley must realise that if he’s still the owner then.

I’m amazed how optimistic people are being here. Why do you expect to sign anyone when the best we got all summer was Demba Ba? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we didn’t get anyone..

Prefer one that can score 15-20 goals per season would help, not be injured very often and be less than £5 million errrrrrmmm well that just about rules them all out so i don’t recon the club will get one

People entering into a discussion on January window strikers… it’s somewhere between naive and in need of powerful medication.

I haven’t even read this article because I’m sick of looking forward to bringing in a top striker just to be disapointed. its a bit like waiting all year for christmas just to get absolutely f**k all. so I can easily awnser the question – what type of striker will newcastle go after in january? the type that Mike ashley won’t pay for , he deliberately goes for top strikers to get our hopes up, when he knows he won’t pay the asking price. so in short the type of striker newcastle will go after is the type that fails to materialise!

sorry to be negative but that’s the way I see it.

We will be linked to every striker available !
We will up till the last minute make claims that the deals are close.
But of course we will do as we truly expect and sign nobody due to last second hitches.
Apologies will be made and promises of summer signings given, Oh and sales will be made to help balance the wage bill.

Rather than start to asking a new striker for the next 5 months, we as fans must start to support the lads in the scuad.

Why not talk about it? Don’t u ever talk about what u’re gonna do tomorrow? Don’t u ask other people questions that u know nothing about?
It’s a justified and healthy discussion, nothing wrong with it whatsoever.
If we shouldn’t talk about it, then send a mail to Ed and ask why he put the article up.
Most of us are simply answering the question Ed poses in the topic, to say people are naive or in need of powerful medication is unjustified.

We should go for one who has a proven track record (roughly a goal in every 2 games) in an established league (so anyone from spl is out). Ideally, he is 21, pushing 22 yrs old, having a buy-out clause for less than 5m, but with a clear potential of reselling at more than 30m in 18 months time. He must be dying to join our club, even sacrificing the chance to play champions’ league football…

Oh, he should not have a twitter account….

    Good luck!

Derek Llambias said last January that it was “the worst month to buy players”, basically because prices become inflated as no club wants to lose star players mid-season. So, has Delboy had a “road to Damascus” experience and decided he was wrong? Or is this proven liar stringing the fans along again? These are the questions every self-respecting NUFC fan must ask himself.
