Shola Ameobi, Danny Guthrie and veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper are all back from injury, and available for tonight’s game at QPR.
Shola Ameobi – local striker is fit again
And that has to be good news for Newcastle fans, because with the small squad we will have yet again this season, we will hope we can keep the number of injuries under control.
Most fans will be wondering whether David Santon will start tonight, but the likelihood is probably that Ryan Taylor will stay in at left back, until Davide gets more time training with his Newcastle team mates.
Pardew will not name his team until the last moment as usual, but a win tonight would be simply fantastic, and would have Newcastle in 4th position (at least) in the Premier League table tonight.
The other good news is that Demba Ba is back to his normal diet after Ramadan ended, and that certainly had an adverse impact on the player’s form, but we still think the Senegal striker will come through big time for Newcastle this season.
Alan Pardew talked to the local Newcastle press corps today:
“Shola is back and that’s a boost.” “I feel for Demba. The pre-season was hampered by Ramadan for him. I think he’ll get sharper as we go along.”
“When he came on against Fulham, I thought he did well in that period and made the second goal.” “It’s about confidence, you need performances to give you confidence.”
“When he gets his first goal, that’ll give him another bit of confidence.” “He’ll be up and running.”
“Everybody’s OK, apart from the longer-term ones and Haris, who has a bad hand injury. He’s had an operation on that. Danny Guthrie’s back, Steve Harper’s back and Shola’s back.
“I pencilled in Ben Arfa to have some time in the Notts Forest game, and it’ll be a massive bonus if we can get him back.”
The Nottingham Forest game is a week tomorrow, so it’s great news that Ben Arfa should be ready to participate in that game, and that means that only 19 year-old youngster Haris Vuckic will still be out with that hand injury, but is expected to be back within three weeks.
The improving injury situation has to be good news for the Newcastle club, and let’s hope the lads can keep up their excellent results this season, and get something out of the QPR game tonight.
