Gosling Just Itching For First Team Opportunity

It seems fairly obvious that young Dan Gosling is very anxious to be given a chance in Newcastle’s starting line-up.

Dan Gosling – deserves a chance

Dan played in the Newcastle Reserve team that hammered Norwich City 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon, and scored two goals and made another, so you cannot do much better than that to get Alan Pardew’s attention.

Assistant manager John Carver was at the game, and was complimentary of the way the England U21 International played and had been applying himself in training, but said he had to be patient too.

Dan thinks he can also score goals from the Newcastle midfield, and that’s sorely needed, since the club have lost their captain Kevin Nolan, who scored 30 goals for the side in the last two seasons, and in his 91 total appearances for the Magpies.

Gosling said this today:

“I will bring a lot of energy and I want to bring some goals to the midfield as well.”

“We have lost 12 goals in Kevin Nolan, so if can score some goals and help the team, hopefully we will be all right.”

None of  Newcastle’s midfield players on Monday night at QPR had particularly good games, with the defense again being the star show for the team.

And especially the two center-backs Colo and Steven Taylor, who have been Newcastle’s best two players, along with goalkeeper Tim Krul,  so far this season.

Dan has made only three appearances for the side since arriving a year last summer from Everton, and wasn’t even in the squad for the game at QPR on Monday night..

One of those appearances was a start at Scunthorpe in the Carling up, so we would hope the 21 year old gets his chance soon, and maybe even at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

If not then, than in the Carling Cup at Nottingham Forest next Tuesday evening – he deserves it.

Really want him in the squad, in the withdrawn striker role maybe? Played there for the reserves and nabbed 2 goals by all accounts

He’s got bags of potential, and will score when the pressure is on. The goal he scored against Liverpool to knock em out the cup for Everton was mint. Can’t believe he didn’t even make the bench for the QPR game!

After the Game against QPR we need to play with a 5 man midfield as we were over run, so put Gosling in with Tiote and Cabaye, the lad has massive potential needs playing time

I’d go with that like dak. I’d swap Loven for Fergy on the bench though.

Raylor really aint a full back anyone putting him there surely nevr been to a game or understand the game of football.. even scunthorpe played on him due to lack of pace n to drop simo after he was our best player against qpr sends a poor message.. ppl want raylor as he scored a couple of free-kicks i feel.. how bout sticking cabaye over them he took most for lille

Cant see Gosling coming into team on Sat, not after not even making the bench on monday. If an extra midfielder comes in I can see it being Marveaux with Jonas being moved inside.

I’d play Smmo at RB over Raylor.

With that, we could have a Winger pushing forwards a bit more and not have to rely on his set pieces as a means to scoring.

We got overrun by QPR’s 5 in midfield but i think Villa will play 4-4-2. It would be nice having Marveaux,Obertan,Jonas on the pitch together with Best uptop alone.

I just don’t understand why when we need goals and have a solid defence that everyone wants to play 2 holding midfielders in Cabaye and Tiote when it seems obvious that they should be competing for the same position.
We need genuine runners in central midfield who are willing to get in the box to help out Best, players like Vuckic, Gosling, Ben Arfa, Marveaux, Guthrie and possibly Abeid all look like they can play this role.
Don’t see what Obertan brings to the team on the right and have a better Frenchman in reserve in Yven Moyo or could even switch Jonas.
Would like to see a natural left footer on the left wing either Marveaux, Ferguson SAMeobi or Ben Arfa.
Would also like to see the 2 pacey young fullbacks Tavernier and Santon brought in to improve us going forward.

Would give Villa a hell of a game wii this team.

4-4-2,4-4-3, 4-5-1 ?? … it doesn’t matter if you can’t thread three passes together in midfield, which has been the problem so far.

How can you pick a team without Tiote in? Yes hasn’t started season to well, but he adds that steel to the team and gives def protection, although Cabaye sits deep he is not the same as Tiote and offers more going forward with his passing, its the same way Barcelona play Xavi with Busquets, they both sit deep but offer different things. The problem has been that when we have played 2 strikers there has been no one picking up positions in between the oppositions def/mid, if we had an extra midfielder ahead of Cab and Tiote we would play differently and bring Cabaye’s passing game more into play.
Moyo? He has no first team experience and has barely played for reserves, he may have potential but lets see him play a run of games in reserves first before considering him for the first team.
Obertan has brought pace to team, he has also protected Simpson quite well and tracks back alot, once he gains a bit confidence from a run in team I think you will see him taking players on more and being more direct, he would also get more freedom with the extra midfielder in team.

pardew is always on about the good young players we have but they rarely get a start, dont think he fully trusts any of them to put them on from the start, he will be lucky if he gets on for the last 15 mins

Ross Armstrong -I think I can remember they played jonas there away at Chelsea last season when sammy came on ,and I think it worked ,and until benny back, jonas energy could work for us.I agree pards won’t do it ,but was just a suggestion ,but agree with others we need to keep the ball a lot better in order to get our more technical players ie benny marv cabaye in golfer more in going forward .

When Ben Arfa’s back i guess he’ll play in the ‘hole’ behind 1 striker, with 2 wingers and tiote/cabaye in CM,so whatever side gets put out in the meantime will only be a temporary fix, AP even admitted that he should have put out a 4-5-1 V QPR so maybe he will against villa, weve been overrun in most of the games so far this season, well in the first half especially….

Also regarding 4-5-1. I agree. But with our lack of firepower, the ability to shift dynamically to 4-3-3 is suddenly not as attractive. Could also leave us exposed at the back. Hence the two holding mids. I agree with 4-1-4-1. For gods sake Pardew, drill them on passing play. It’s so hard to watch us fighting for every mis-hit or mistimed pass.

4-1-2-2-1 Marveaux and Jonas on the both flanks between Best and midfielders. Santon and Fergie is attacking minded full backs which will give us a lot of chances for Best.

    Santon Colo Saylor Fergie
    Cabaye Gosling
    Marveaux Jonas

Blissna agree with 4-5-1 and passing play, last game was painful!

Im gonna reiterate, I personally would take Tiote off, two games tops he needs to know that he is not guaranteed a place… I will also use the same reference point….. when ben arfa came in and gutierrez was dropped to the bench he was an animal….. he WANTED to prove himself.

    Cab, gos
    Obertoon, Jonas, Marveaux/ferguson

    get it done monsiuer Pardieu
