Demba Ba is set to make a start for Newcastle at Villa Park today.
In fact the team is a little bit of a surprise with Pardew continuing to play in a 4-4-2 formation and Demba Ba coming in for Shola Ameobi up front, is the only change from the side that drew at QPR at last Monday.
Shola had a poor game last Monday night at QPR, and was expected to be on the bench today, and Rob Elliot remains the back-up goalkeeper, in preference to veteran Steve Harper.
James Perch comes in on the bench, but Dan Gosling is not a substitute today, surprisingly enough.
But they’ll probably be involved at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night in the Carling Cup.
Former Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given is in goal for Aston Villa and former winger Charles N’Zogbia also starts.
Let’s at least hope we can remain unbeaten today.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
Aston Villa (4-4-2): Shay Given; Alan Hutton, James Collins, Richard Dunne, Stephen Warnock; Barry Bannan, Stiliyan Petrov, Fabian Delph, Charles N’Zogbia; Gabriel Agbonlahor, Darren Bent
Substitutes: Brad Guzan, Chris Herd, Shane Lowry, Gary Gardner, Stephen Ireland, Marc Albrighton, Nathan Delfouneso
Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Cheik Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Leon Best, Demba Ba
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, James Perch, Danny Guthrie, Sylvain Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi

Comment #561Midweek I dont want to see Cabaye or Tiote on the pitch. If either player gets injured we’re &*”!ed.
Give Sammy, Shane, Shola, Vuckic, Guthrie and Gosling a run out

Comment #563The way marv keeps the ball impressed me quite a bit. I don’t think he wasted possession once. Certainly fits in to the sort of football pardew has been talking about since mid july

Comment #564Before the game I’d have taken a point. After our performance, we really should have been taking 3 points.
We were asking the questions and that’s a positive. Hopefully this will start some momentum that we can take into the next games.

Comment #565Much much better. what price cabaye now !!!
Marveux looks like he could do the ben arfa role, clever clever player.
Just wish we hadn’t brought on shola and gone back to long balls when our pasing was dominating. For shola to have got another 2 year contract is silly when ironically he’s halting the progress of his much much better brother.

Comment #569As you know, i pretty pleased by the way Pard run the team.
But he made several mistakes in his changes. Needless to say, get Shola in prior to Marv was one of them.
But he also do a mistake by puting in Love at the place of a midfield against Arsenal after Gervinho was sended off.
So, two times victory was near, and two times she slipped away.

Comment #570That was so much better!
Agree with everyone’s comments.
Cabaye so unlucky not to score a winner for us!
Ba & Best so much better than Shola.
Marveaux good too.
Tiote coming back to form.
Raylor & Simmo perfect lads! 🙂
Colo top man! Saylor a couple of moments but solid overall.
Jonas & Obertan one of you will make way for Marveaux …
Cabaye man of the match.

Comment #571Gosling has been injured for a long time – he can’t be walked into the first team, nor can Ben Arfa.

Comment #573Krul 7 – Not much to do, but give the defenders some coolness!
Simpson 7 – Played well, didnt let no-one pass him.
S.Taylor 8 – Did very well, near scoring too. Won everything in the air.
Coloccini 7 – Was unlucky to let Agbonlahor scoring, but was calm and good on the ball rest of the match.
R.Taylor 7 – Was much better than last match, but bad on the free-kicks today.
Obertan 7 – I think he was good today, but he should be using his pace more, we he does he is superb.
Tiote 8 – Was showing he will be showing more of the form he had last season. Has to get off with the dangerous passes.
Cabaye 9 – Outstanding. He was just missing the goal for the perfect match, with a NUFC win.
Gutierrez 7 – Worked hard as he always to, but he should be attacking a bit more.
Best 7 – Was good, linked up well with Ba. But why was he subbed for Shlowy Ameobi??
Ba 7 – Showed he is nearing his good form as he had last season.
Shola Ameobi -1 – He always trying to do all on his own, nothing he is useless to. Should be subbed after 1 minute.

Comment #574Sammy is a better player then Gabriel Obertan.
I can only see Obertan doing tricks and lost the ball not doing much.

Comment #577Ok, got to follow Liverpool and Stoke now. I think they would be our rivals for a while…
Did you start to believe fourth place is reachable?
Arsenal lose again, and we seem in advance on our road map concerning team play.
Ba and Tioté recovered from their fast, Marv is fit, Best proved he can score a lot, Saylor will move to the english team…
And Ben arfa is coming back next game!
Except for Santon, all lights are green.

Comment #580When Duff was around i though Jonas was trying to adpt to english football.
Then came Obertan..He was what i call poor. Doesn’t go back and defence and lost the ball when attack.

Comment #581Obertan is the only picture that back facing us because he doesnt deserve to be in the banner in the 1st place.
There is still other untested players in his position.
Feger dont sell you for 2million for nothing..

Obertan…yet again
Is AP testing Obertan? IMO when the rest of the midfield in his position are ready they will take over his place.
Obertan is really not good enough. (Maybe he is still too young and have not reach his level? i hope so anyway he can be a backup)

He’s been at the club for about a month.
Give him a chance, give him a season.

Comment #585Didnt like the negative comments and grudging praise from Le Tissier on sky soccer saturday summing up.
I watched the last half hour online and we were totally dominant and had good chances; only Shay saved them from defeat.
Jeff Stelling made an interesting comparison between Andy Carroll and Leon Best’s scoring records in 2011. Best – 8; Carroll – 2
HWTL looking good and with Santon and HBA to come in 🙂
HAPPY !
