Leon Best once again got the goal for Newcastle yesterday in Newcastle’s fine 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
Leon Best after scoring his goal yesterday – he looks thirsty!
After a bit of a horror show last Monday night, well at least in the first half at QPR, Newcastle loooked a much better side yesterday and played some good football.
And one other good thing about the performance was when the lads went 1-0 down through a nicely taken Gabriel Agbonlahor goal on 13 minutes, they never once dropped their heads, and attacked Aston Villa continuously until Leon Best got the equalizer on 57 minutes.
And then after that goal, Newcastle could well have won the game, but why Pardew took Best off for Shola Ameobi shortly after his goal we”ll never know, because Leon could have scored another one, like he did against Fulham.
Best is coming through again for Newcastle and Alan Pardew had this to say about the improving Newcastle striker after the game:
“Leon is a guy who has been around the game a long time,” “He has not really had the chances at Premier League level that he feels he deserves.”
“Leon has great belief in himself. He gets a start, he gets a goal, and he keeps the shirt, it’s as simple as that in my book.”
“I’m pleased for him and he will be in against Blackburn next week and I hope he scores again.”
Leon will now get an extended run in the side once again for Newcastle, as long as he keeps getting those goals, and credit not only to Leon, but also to Alan Pardew for getting the very best out of Leon (pun intended) since Alan arrived on Tyneside.
Leon Best has now scored an amazing 9 Premier League goals in his last 17 appearances for Newcastle, and since we know he’s into statistics, he’ll like this one – that’s an average of 0.53 goals per appearance.
And that’s simply excellent.
