Newcastle Pursuing Scottish Midfield Play-Maker

News today that Newcastle United are after Scottish midfielder Scott Allan.

Scott Allan – 19 year-old Scottish midfield play-maker

The Scotland U21 International (2 caps) turns 20 at the end of November,  and has only recently rejected a new contract offer from Dundee, and there is news today in the Daily Mail that Newcastle are interested in the player.

The Glasgow-born Allan has played four times  for Dundee this season, and last season he played four time for Forfar Athletic with one goal,  while out on a short term loan deal.

Allan was charged with assault  last November, after an incident on Queen Street in Glasgow which left two men needing hospital treatment, and other Dundee players were also involved and charged, but then all assault charges were dropped last  June, due to insufficient evidence.

When Newcastle bring in new players they will check on their characters and personality of the players, so there may be a question mark  with Allan.

Scott first joined Dundee back in 2001 as a 10 year-old, and he is a player with vision and awareness he will see passes that others will not, and his reading of the game is said to be excellent too, and he also has good close control.

Scott Allan will become a free agent next summer and Newcastle could pick him up on a free transfer.

Cant see this being true, we have Brad Inman in the reserves who’s 20 in December and has way more caps at u21 level for Scotland than this guy and he cant get a look in for the first team and he plays in the same position

Brad Inman (our reserve captin) is next who will step up to 1st team. I think he will replace Guthrie, or Smith or go on-loan. Scott is good young prospect, but we have really strong academy (and first i would like to see our young boys given a few chances), donaldson is also atacking MID, but i think ashley sees profit in one or another way..

Having been born in Scotland I follow Scottish football (to a point) but I must admit I haven’t heard of this guy.

It seems to me that we don’t really need midfielders and have several of our own youngsters coming through, but if Carr rates him, and he’s free, then I suppose we could steal him in and loan him out, maybe to a Championship side and see how he copes. Prospective young talent is always good.

Having said that we were linked to just about everyone over the summer, so I’ll just wait and see. Our January priorities have to be CB, LB and striker.
