Newcastle Field Unchanged Side From Villa Park

As expected Alan Pardew will field an unchanged starting eleven from the side that got a good 1-1 draw at Villa Park last Saturday.

Newcastle of course made as many as nine changes for the 4-3 win on Tuesday night at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.

And it’s good to see Steve Harper On the bench as the substitute goalkeeper.

As expected both Ben Arfa and Sylvain Marveaux are on the bench, and will likely see some action this afternoon, as could 19 year-old Sammy Ameobi who also makes the bench, but brother Shola is not included today.

19 year-old Shane Ferguson is also missing, as James Perch is included for defensive cover.

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Cheik Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Leon Best, Demba Ba
Subs: Steve Harper, James Perch, Danny Guthrie, Sylvain Marveaux, Sammy Ameobi, Hatem Ben Arfa, Peter Lovenkrands

Blackburn Rovers: (4-4-2): Paul Robinson; Michel Salgado, Christopher Samba (c), Scott Dann, Gael Givet; Junior Hoilett, Steven N’zonzi, Jason Lowe, Martin Olsson; Mauro Formica, Yakubu
Subs: Mark Bunn, Grant Hanley, Vince Grella, Radosav Petrovic, Simon Vukcevic, Ruben Rochina, Jason Roberts

Isn’t Shola injured? Heard he had thigh strain or something.

Great team! Happy to see no Shola Ameobi! But Gosling deserves to be in the squad! Hope Marveaux will get some time today!

We should completely dominate the CM area, our two are up against Nzonzi (cack) and Lowe(?).

We should switch Guti and Obertan. Obertan would roast Salgado!

Big test, of whether this team is more reliable than previous years.

    3-0 HTL! 😀

Why does everybody want Gosling on the bench? He’s done nothing impressive short of a handful of decent games at reserve level. He was atrocious against Forest – as Pardew said, he’s not in the frame and he will need to pick up his performances to get anywhere near the first team.

Glad shola aint on the bench…everytime.he comes.on we.switch to long balls even.though best.wins.more in the air anyway.

Anyone else.suspect pards is keeping obertan and to some extent.ba.in the team as they are.his.signings, unlike.marveaux.who was a carr.signing? Im.sure.its.not that cynical.but obertan just isnt doing it for me.

Don’t know if Marveaux is fully fit, but when he is he’ll push Jonas for his place as he offer’s a better final ball but he’ll have to offer a lot on the defensive side like Jonas does

I agree with Thump. Gosling was even more crap against Scunthorpe. He’s a promising player no doubt about it, but when he gets a chance to prove himself he must use it…

Post 12 – Apparently Carr ran the rule over all of the players we ended up signing. Pardew may have picked Obertan and Ba out, but I doubt they stay in the team because of this. I’d imagine they stay in because they’re confidence players and need a bit of a run.

    @Robby Bobson
No such thing imo. He’s keeping them in the team, cause i’m guessing he sees them do well every day in training, but needs time to produce it on the pitch.
We’ve piled a bit of pressure on Ba as our only striker signing this summer, plus he has good appearance to goal ratio. Needs to get that confidence and sharpness back.
On Obertan, he needs to up his confidence, we’ve seen a few runs from him in the last two matches saying he’s improving. Needs to work harder both on and off the ball imo, but that may also be a confidence issue.
He’s said to be a tricky player, not seen much of that on the pitch yet, but like Ba, it’ll come.
And i think thats what Pardew sees.

Well, Gosling did not anything good against Scunthorpe or Forest, atm he doesn’t deserve to be on the bench. Guthrie played well against Forest…

Robby bobson silly comment as any signings made while pardew is manager class as pardews signings not carrs signings he is the scout pardew would still decide if he wants him or not.

Gosling is better than guthrie pfft thats your opinion gosling has done nothing to show he is a good player the times i have seen him he has been nothing short of shocking. Guthrie when played out wide was poor for us but he is still one of the best passes we have and has a great shot.

@Swedish: Were you watching/listening to the Forest game?

On his day, he is better than Guthrie by a country mile. When it isn’t his day, he’s atrocious. Pardew sees these lads train day in, day out – there’s a reason Gosling hasn’t been selected.

Keep in mind he’s been out with injury for near enough a full season, he’s going to take a lot of time to get up to speed.

I think Gosling is probably the same as Obertan in terms of confidence, as well. He and Ba seemed to work well together in pre-season. Shame he hasn’t recreated that at competitive level. Time will tell, I suppose.

Obertan and Ba are both getting better the more games they play like.

Obertan got two assists against forest on tuesday and Ba has started to look alot more mobile and dangourous.

I believe they merit a place in the first team.

Anyway 3-1 today, Cabaye, Best and HBA

I’ve predicted 3-1 for every game this season like and am yet to be right lol.

How do people know Gosling is quality?? At Everton they didnt even know what was his best position was and played at RB. I have a number of Everton season ticket holders as friends and when i asked them they said he was very average at best and just got hyped because of goal against United. He has been terrible for us aswell when playing competatively. I hope he comes good and proves me wrong though but cant see it.

Gosling is simply a younger Nolan. Very ordinary in CM, has more stamina than Nolan. Anticipates things in and around the box very well, but doesn’t yet have the finishing ability of Nolan.

Anyway, who cares, we’re about to kick off!?

Obertan is just the most frustrating player ive seen for years…one minute hes doing skills of ben arfa, next minute hes like fabrice pancrate….but suppose consistency can only come by playing games.

Hopefully we are out of sight by the time Jason Roberts comes on.

Nufc-83 – Gosling has been one of highest regarded English youngster since the age of 16 with all of the top teams in the prem keeping an eye on him, it was somewhat a coup for us to get him, though his injury may have had something to do with that. He’s only just turned 21 so has plenty of time to left, he’ll come good as soon as he get back to full fitness and his confidence is back

He is the sort of busy hard working player that can be useful but Guthrie is alot better passer I think.

Gosling had some great games in the preseason tour of America. He has been out for a very long time and he is going to need time. Notice how he isnt moaning or complaining he knows this himself. He will come good. Better than Guthrie.
