Newcastle After French International Playmaker

There has been news recently that Newcastle are interested in French international play-maker Marvin Martin.

Marvin Martin – Newcastle interested

The 23 year-old has been at Sochaux for the last nine years,  and so far has made 117 appearances for the French side, with 10 goals and 26 assists.

Newcastle’s name in France is sky high at the moment, and with French players such as Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvian Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid already at the Tyneside club, Newcastle may be an attraction for the 5 times capped French International, who was born in Paris in 1988.

Martin could leave his club as early as next summer, and there is news today that both Manchester United and Arsenal are interested in the player.

The Sunday Sun reported that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew wants the French midfielder at the club, and Chief Scout Graham Carr has already been watching the player in action

But Newcastle had trouble with Sochaux in their bid to sign Martin’s team mate, striker Modibo Maiga last summer, and the news is that Sochaux will let Martin go, but only if a significant fee comes in for the player.

But Newcastle don’t seem to pay out big fees for players these days, unless Martin has some release clause in his contract, so we don’t know what the chances are of Newcastle bringing the play-maker to the club.

Perhaps Newcastle should try to bring both Maiga and Martin to Tyneside, and try to get a volume discount from Sochaux.

😀

What do you think?

Can’t see him coming to us when the big boys are sniffing around.

Perfect replacement for Loven or Jonas in the future but I can’t see it’ll happen. His price will be 15-20M now.

    Team against Wolves:
    Krul
    Simpson, S.Taylor, Coloccini, R.Taylor
    Obertan, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa
    Ba, Best

Subs: Haper, Gutierrez, Marveaux, Lovenkrands, Sammy, Guthrie, Santon (hopefully)

We dont need Perch on the bench, he isnt good enough, just like Shola!

Give Ben Arfa a 60-70 min performance and then sub him with Guti, Marv or Sammy (like this lad, he is just what his brother isnt; good!)

I think the team v wolves will probably be the same as against Blackburn, the old if it aint broke dont fix it method.

Then Benny will come on around 60mins for one of the strikers. Hopefully santon will get 20 or so minutes aswell.

I remember when Beardo came on here claiming to be Peter Beardsley, still no idea whether it was or not, but he was saying Martin was a serious target in the summer.

Like WWJBD said though, where would he play now? He have an awesome midfield with alot of cover.

id rather your first team players start, and by this i mean HBA, give him as much time as possible, he will only get fit by playing, if he only come on for 20 mins how will he push himself, + by this time most games are won or lost,

no id start with him and give him 60 or 70 mins

    @Catchy….

This is the 3rd or so time I’ve seen you going by the stats. On paper Arsenal are a good team, how did they start the season again?

On topic this guy seems ok, but like someone said, if the “big boys” are after him he’ll probably be a scholes replacement or at the very least Giggs. So we may aswell forget this guy if they are interested. Not to mention if Winger gets involved to seeing as he’s missing his star that was Cesc. Looks slim on this one guys. Not that we need another midfield player anyway, we seem to have that covered.

Midfield: Ben Arfa, Gosling, Jonas, Guthrie, Raylor, Tiote, Cabaye, Obertan, Marveaux, Abeid, Vuckic, Sameobi.

That’s 12 people scrapping for the spots as it is!!!! Why add another one for competition!

have you forgotten he has only just come back from a career threatening leg brake AND damage ankle ligaments…. why rush him back when it would seem we are coping without him, bring him on softly gently, break him back in, dont just chuck him in the deepend!

especially against the hatchet men of Wolves.

I know we cant wrap him in cotton wool, but theres a difference between getting him match fit, and sticking him in against Henry, Elokobi(?) etc.

I think / hope they free up another space in January – send guthrie off on loan or sell him… What on earth has happened to Alan Smith by the way? did they release him in the end or what?

@Roshan – Can we not talk about replacing Colo?

I know hes past it in MA’s eyes and on alot of money but hes currently the best CB we’ve had since I started supporting the club in about 93.

Surely MA will see that hes a bloody rock, and never injured, therefore deserves a contract extension.

I wont hold my breath though lol.

lol i totally agree with the ARS have a good team on paper, and i know that they will come good, i think they will finish above us,
in my opinion on ARS, he left it to late to replace key players that he knew were going, but i bet when jan comes around, he gets the 50 mill to spend, will bring in very good players,

and i agree with your next point to a degree, marveaux was almost joining a big club in liverpool, but we got him, and 3 of the players in that 12 i feel dont have a future at the club, jonas, raylor, guthrie , and ben af, will be a forward not a mf,,

I wanna say to all guys in here that this guy Marvin is pure class. Amazing passing accuracy and set piece skills though similar to Cabaye but this guy is more attack minded and has the ability to take over and boss games in a manner few midfielders can nowadays. Its another Carr special but not sure whether the budget will allow it. Personally we need cover in central defense and at right back this jan window

dissapointing as it it king Colo will be the next to leave i would guess as hes 29 ish and on he highest wages (£80kpw) at the club mike ashley would probs accept a £8.5mil bid next summer similar with Jonas i fear

    i agree wid u totally,
with a player like colo we should offer him an extension nd try and convince him to take a wage reduction down to 60kpw when we let smith go that way we will have saved a full 80kw by releasing smith and we will have kept a quality and touch would everpresent CB and club captain fans favourite who sells a lot of shirts (gotta convince mike its good business to keep him) + if we can get into ueropa league (heres prayin) we will be able to afford 1 or 2 on higher wages

Nolan – Sold, because we got a better replacement for the same price.

Barton – Offered a Contract, didnt like it. Protested against Ashley. In Ashley’s opinion he had to snuff out the fire before it burnt the whole forest.

Enrique – Missed Judas so much, he wanted to go to Liverpoo just to shag him one more time.

Yes they were key players and high earners, but they all had reasons why they wouldn’t stay. We can’t force a player to stay.

Colocinni, may be offered a new contract, with lower wages, or may be sold. We never know, but as of now he is not giving Ashley any reasons to ship him off to the highest bidder. If anything, he is justifying his Wage earnings and staying out of Cashley’s business.

Lets not speculate about what could happen and just focus on the here and now.

Against any other team I’d throw him in catchy because they have 1 maybe 2 really bad challengers in their team, but Wolves are made up of 11 hatchet men.

Much better to give him 20-30mins on saturday then start him the next game at home against spurs.

ppl like niff noff, live in a world where the chairman has done no wrong,
our chairman dont look at what the player has to offer the team, only the resale value against his wage, and colo has 2 things against him,,

now this is not me wanting colo to go, as i think he can play there for the next 4 years, he is without dout, one of the best CB in the prem, he brings a calmness to the back four, and if he does go, will be just a big a miss as a good no 9

I will only agree to the notion of Ben Arfa Starting, if i see a written contract of Steven Taylor and Tiote agreeing to be his personal bodyguards during the game.

If not, then i’m afraid i’m on the “Come on for 20 minutes at the end” bandwagon.
