Newcastle Preparing For January Transfer Market

We have a sneaking suspicion that if Newcastle’s good form (and fortune) continues through the end of the year, the  Newcastle Board may surprise us all with as many as three new players brought in during the January transfer window.

Alan Pardew at Wolves yesterday

The reasons for that are that Newcastle will have a chance to possibly qualify for Europe, and with the money and prestige that brings to the club, Mike Ashley should be able to back Pardew in getting whatever he wants to continue what’s becoming the Pardew revolution at Newcastle.

A top striker, and there is news the club are continuing to monitor Modibo Maiga, and two defenders – a left back and a center back – would be very good additions to strengthen the squad.

Newcastle watched Mobido Maiga two weeks ago, and have watched Bayer Leverkusen’s Eren Derdiyok this week, and of course Pardew watched Eren play for Switzerland over the last International break.

And Alan Pardew plans to meet with the Newcastle Board,  to discuss what the plan of action should be in January, and hopefully they will again move quickly to bring in some good players, as they did in June, when the club acquired Cabaye, Abeid, Ba and Marveaux.

This is what Alan Pardew told the Sunday Sun today:

“I don’t think you can change your opinions over the course of a couple of games. I think we have a long way to run before we get to that window opening,”

“Four weeks before that we will need to nail down what we’re going to do.”  “Because if we leave it too late we might end in the same situation – not correcting what we think might be wrong.”

“At the moment the team is functioning well but you want to improve all the time.: “So bringing in a player in that window would be a really good tonic, whichever position we’re in.”

We still think the defense needs strengthening in depth, and a new left-back and center-back would do the trick.  And it seems Newcastle will bring in a new striker, no matter how well Demba Ba and Best perform through the end of the year.

Three new players brought in to boost the squad in January and hopefully help Newcastle get into Europe for next season, is what we’d love to see.

What do you think?

Let’s know your opinions and ideas – comments welcome.

It’ll be a successful window aslong as no big players are sold. 2 defenders and a striker brought in would be a bonus.

I don’t know, Ed. Players seem to become overvalued in January. Not sure if Ashley will be willing to open his pocket to that degree.

Hate to say it when I am slowly becoming more optomistic about NUFC but blatent paper talk and Pardew fluff (though he has placed the blame at the board door before anything happens so fair play tohim for that) imo

Modibo Maïga scored 2 goals yesterday, and now he has 4 goals in 6 games this season. It certainly seems that he can score goals, but I am a bit suspicious if he’d offer anything new to our current attacking options. It seems that he is still our main priority in January. I’d rather buy Junior Hoilett, or then that Turkish delight would maybe be a good alternative…

    @Stuart
2 defenders & a striker for me too; we’ve been lucky with injuries so far, but a bigger squad should be a long term aim, if we are going to compete in the League and cups.

@cheick and Bake – It would have to be either Ba, Best, Guti or Obertan.

Out of the 4 I’d say either Best or Obertan. Probably Obertan.

In an ideal world we’d drop Simpson and play 3 at the back 5 in the middle and 2 up top.

But that just wouldnt work unfortuanately haha!

If I was dropping a player for HBA it wwould have to be one of the strikers; whichever one has the better form plays. Marveaux for Obetan and Santon for Raylor, who could fight it out with Simpson for RB.

Wow. Look at that! We have some options.

My biggest fear (if our form continues) is Dalglish bidding 400million for our entire first 11…
It’s nice to look at the top of the table to find the toon again…

You would rather drop Simmo than Raylor?

Simmo gets slagged off a lot on here and imo he played well yesterday and only wound up in trouble when Obertan hung him out to dry

2 defenders and a striker brought in january is an absolute bare minimum necessity, not a bonus

    @WWJBD

Didnt really put too much thought into it as we would never play with 3 at the back anyway.

I only said Simmo as you could drop him and have Saylor on the right, if you dropped Raylor you’d need to drop either Colo or Saylor to get a LB in.

As I said though, makes no difference as three at the back would be canny suicidal lol.

    Why do we worry ?
We are sitting third in the PL, still unbeaten, no major injuries having a barrel load of luck and no players in the front pages of the red tops.
Why? Because its Newcastle and somewhere or someplace a spanner will come our way.
Until then Im just loving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are playing the best we played since 95 they say.
The difference being that KK did away with our youth system and the possibility of building the team from ground up.
At least Ashley is using the little brain he has and employing a top scout and many other scouts by the sounds of things,it’s looking very good for the future.
Hope the team can continue it’s good form and luck too

We deffo need a new lb so santon can play rb instead of simpson! And rtaylor still gives the ball away to easy! We all seen how much of a hard time he had against qpr. If swp tortures him like that hate to c what nani will do wen we play them.

I will be very surprised if we sign Mobido Maiga in Jan, as it would meen Ba and Maiga would be away all jan for africa cup, think if we sign a striker it should be a european striker then when Ba goes to africa, he would have the chance too come in and prove himself. ,

Personally i think obertan and simmo on the right just doesnt work. too many times on sat obertan left simpson far too exposed. on top of that simpson isnt the best defender when put under pressure. if we are to play with obertan we need a solid right back behind him. bring gary neville out of retirement!!!!

We do not need any more players. We should only add to the squad if a really good importunity presents itself. Like when we got Ben Arfa etc. If that produces 2 defenders and a striker then fine…

Our main focus should be on getting the current team to gel and keeping the good players we got.

If Ba keeps his current scoring record alive until January Liverpool should be watched/feared…

Magpie-man – Tevez would probably cost 30M but can you imagine what a force we’d be if we could pull it off?? We can always dream. I’ll be happy with either one of Maiga, Martin, Sturridge or Derdiyok.

we definitely need centre back cover. prefer someone who can cover at either full back position.

Obertan was woeful i thought yesterday and is a big worry for me. his first touch put the ball in to the air 20 feet several times :S eek

Looks like Mike Ashley has discovered “Moneyball”
for those not aware of what that means, it is a system used by Baseball clubs when buying players, based on a system of applying individual statistics to evaluate a players abilities.
So for those of you who believe that Carr, Pardew or others opinions are the reason players are brought in, think again.
Well let me clarify that, there is a system already in place that lists most European football players and their statistical evaluations, it just a matter of making lists according to a clubs requirements.
Of course people like Carr have a good deal of influence in who is on these lists and their actual worth (well NUFC not having anyone but Ashley to evaluate their worth) sometimes causes deals to fall through or take forever to complete.
Which is something the club lacks (a good money man) and for that matter a decent manager, but that’s another story.
So our needs imo at present are, at least two decent defenders, preferably versatile, who can play across the back four.
Yes Miaga is playing well and would be nice to have another goal-scorer, but defense is where we need help and while we are at it, to get rid of some of the obvious deadwood, those who are never going to be first team players.
As for the winter window, yes more expensive, with many sides making panic buys, plus every players contract expires during the summer window.
Which is not to say there are not bargains, who are players on the last months of their contract, Jr. Hoilett, a target mentioned by the club last window is an example.
but as mentioned our goal should be to strengthe our back four.

    Toonbrother@ 23.

Luuk de Jong aint on my wish list, however Roy Berens from AZ Alkmaar is ! Never gonna happen though!

Its all going too well just recently! Deffo don,t want Tevez! More prolems than he,s worth.
Not sure who we are going to get in Jan! Still don,t believe that Pieters is coming from PSV although there are people on here who would pay a fortune to get him here? Why!

We were extemely lucky to win on saturday! The Ref was the worst player on the Park! Final score should of been: 2-2 ! And they should of had a pen before that!

Decisions have always gone against us in the past, not sure why thats changed! My prediction on the Toto across here was also 2-2! So thats cost me a few bob!
    ( Euro,s).

Maigo looks top for Sochaux, looked a good game on the link! Bad tackle from Cissoko, went for the player not the ball!
Think we,ll get a 1-1 draw against the Spuds!

Travenier is a good RB (IMO starter nex year). also we have Raylor, Simpson.Santon on the Left, guti could cover that positiont too, also fergusson, and Dummett, I think we need Pieters to cover CB or LB as Santon could cover RB. And offcourse striker is a must.

Just noticed a piece about Maiga still wanting to move from Sochaux ! ( Sky )!

If we make the right approach and go about it correctly the second time around! We should try and sign this lad!
If we don,t then someone else is going to! We should of had Gervinio! but after pissing around for so long The Gooners got him! And looking at them so far this term he has been one of their best players!

Pieters would cost us too much and his wage bill would be huge! Sorry i am not one of his supporters!

Laughed when i was told that Ruiz went to Fulham coz he wanted to play in Europe and discovered he would have to wait as he was cup-tied. He thought he could play against his old team in European competition this year.

If The Cottagers don,t qualify for European Competition next year then he may come to regret his last minute move to them!! Until last weekend it was,nt looking good but their is still a long way to go!

If we got Maiga then i would be pleased to say the least! Who the f…… is arnautovic Hellothere?
