We have a sneaking suspicion that if Newcastle’s good form (and fortune) continues through the end of the year, the Newcastle Board may surprise us all with as many as three new players brought in during the January transfer window.
Alan Pardew at Wolves yesterday
The reasons for that are that Newcastle will have a chance to possibly qualify for Europe, and with the money and prestige that brings to the club, Mike Ashley should be able to back Pardew in getting whatever he wants to continue what’s becoming the Pardew revolution at Newcastle.
A top striker, and there is news the club are continuing to monitor Modibo Maiga, and two defenders – a left back and a center back – would be very good additions to strengthen the squad.
Newcastle watched Mobido Maiga two weeks ago, and have watched Bayer Leverkusen’s Eren Derdiyok this week, and of course Pardew watched Eren play for Switzerland over the last International break.
And Alan Pardew plans to meet with the Newcastle Board, to discuss what the plan of action should be in January, and hopefully they will again move quickly to bring in some good players, as they did in June, when the club acquired Cabaye, Abeid, Ba and Marveaux.
This is what Alan Pardew told the Sunday Sun today:
“I don’t think you can change your opinions over the course of a couple of games. I think we have a long way to run before we get to that window opening,”
“Four weeks before that we will need to nail down what we’re going to do.” “Because if we leave it too late we might end in the same situation – not correcting what we think might be wrong.”
“At the moment the team is functioning well but you want to improve all the time.: “So bringing in a player in that window would be a really good tonic, whichever position we’re in.”
We still think the defense needs strengthening in depth, and a new left-back and center-back would do the trick. And it seems Newcastle will bring in a new striker, no matter how well Demba Ba and Best perform through the end of the year.
Three new players brought in to boost the squad in January and hopefully help Newcastle get into Europe for next season, is what we’d love to see.
