Strong Newcastle Reserves Side Wins At Bolton 3-0

Newcastle played a very strong Reserves side against Bolton last night and came away with a 3-0 win.

Peter Lovenkrands in action last night

And manager Alan Pardew traveled  with the side and saw new French signing Sylvain Marveuax hit two second half goals for the side.

Here was the strong side that Newcastle played last night:

Harper, Streete, Henderson, Perch, Ferguson, Sammy Ameobi (Inman), Gosling, Guthrie (McDermott), Marveaux, Richardson (Hooper), Lovenkrands

There are eight players in that side who have played for the Newcastle first team in a competitive game, and it just shows the strength of the Newcastle squad, when a side that strong is played to give the lads a game.

Newcastle took the lead after just 23 minutes, when England U21 International Dan Gosling played through Sammy Ameobi, and although his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Lainton,  the ball spun high into the air and into the goal.

On 36 minutes a good move by Michael Richardson down the left wing ended when he put the ball across to Marveaux, but his shot was wide of the goal.

It was 1-0 at the half and then on 63 minutes Peter Lovenkrands played in Sylvain Marveaux, and the Frenchman hit the ball nicely past Lainton with that great left foot of his.

Then on 76 minutes, 19 year-old Shane Ferguson made another good run down the left wing,  and his cross found Marveaux at the back post, and this time the French U21 International hit the ball home with his right foot – show off.

It was a good display by this strong Reserves side, and those of you who have a subscription to NufcTV can now see the highlights of the game online.

Hatem Ben Arfa was supposed to get a run out last night, but one of his family was taken sick in Tunisia and Alan Pardew gave the French International compassionate leave to travel to Tunisia.

Good result, seems like a good display from Marv aswell, maybe a switch with Oba soon?

Off topic but has anyone heard about the deal AP has set up with Harper? In order for him to begin stepping down, he’ll only be on the bench for home games, while Elliot will be for away games.

Stuart, that’s mainly because of his knees isn’t it?

I think its a case of Harper knowing he will need to step down soon, so rather than have to travel all over the country to sit on the bench, let Elliot do that, then he does the home games.

I kinda expect him to retire at the end of the season like.

I think the potential of quality passing, ball retention and creativity will increase quite a bit more once Hatem and Sylvain are in the team. If anything I’d give Obertan a couple more games to mean he’s had a little run in the side then give way to Marveaux.

I would like to see Marv and Benny in against spurs mind, but its not a problem for me if Pardew sticks with a winning side. It shows belief in the players and they will know that their workrate has some justification, which is good for mental determination.

Hi Ed, I get the impression you think this was a strong reserve side…you use the word five times to describe it as such. We got the point from the headline and the first paragraph. Hope you are doing okay healthwise.
