19 year-old defender Jeff Henderson has joined Gateshead on an initial one-month loan deal.
Jeff Henderson – one month lain at Gateshead
The Ashington-0born player, who attended Coquet High School, has been at Newcastle since he was 13 years-old, and while he is principally a defender, he can also play in central midfield.
Jeff trained with the Blue Square Premier club this morning, and Gatehead are currently 3rd in the league, with 27 points, just two points behind leaders Wrexham, after 14 games.
Henderson has played often for the Newcastle Reserves side, and had often captained the side last season, and we know Alan Pardew is keen to get the top young talent at Newcastle some first team games out on loan. Sounds good to us.
James Tavernier spent a very successful loan spell at Gateshead earlier this year, when he played 18 times for Gateshead, and James is now on loan at Carlisle United, where he has so far played 11 times.
Both Carlisle and Gateshead are clubs that Newcastle will be loaning out their youngsters to, and it seems a win-win for both those clubs and Newcastle too.
We wish Jeff every success during his loan spell across the River Tyne.

Agree with you mate, we seems to be doing that this year more than ever. And rightly so, the more these lads play, the sharper they get and they improve allot quicker.
Sure the league isn’t nowhere as good, but it’s allot more serious than the reserves, gives them a different perspective of how it is to play for a first team.
It becomes so much more than just keeping your fitness up and developing on the training ground.
I fully endorse this and hope we can keep doing this as much as possible.

Comment #9How many players from the youth team are being promoted to the reserve or senior team???
Versatile players lose their places so easily.jeff has to specialise in one postion.

Comment #10Completely off topic, so apologies for that. But, are there any good right backs out there that we should be buying? Everyone keeps saying get Pieters for left-back and move Santon over to right-back. But let’s say left-back is Santon’s best and favourite position then who are the candidates for right-back in Jan or the summer?

I dont think we should be getting RBs mate, i’d honestly give Tavernier his shot instead, really think he could do a good solid job there.
Earning rave reviews at Carlisle.

Comment #13I doubt we will be getting a RB Simmo is decent, despite the abuse he gets and Tav is currently looking decent at a lower league team plus Santon, Perch, Saylor and Raylor can play there
Tubbs doesnt pay when he doesnt need to…will be luck to get the CB cover we need imo

Comment #14Who does anyone think (if any) will or could be the next star we produce?. When you look at star players they have usually at 19 been included in most first team squads Jones at Man U your rooneys and gerrards, coles, lampards etc.
Maybe Sammy as he is around the 1st team squad, not sure. I`m hoping we have a few or even 1 little star coming through maybe campbell or JJ Hooper.
When I say star although Sammy, Tavernier,Vukic,Fergie are very good I mean that special player.

I think Remie Streete is a star in the making, 16 years old, played reserve team footy.
Also, we have Terrys son in there i think, Greg McDermott, also performs quite well.
Otherwise tho, i don’t see any “Messi” atm, JJ Hooper looks the genuine tho and models himself after Drogba, not hating that 😉

Comment #16Next big thing to come out of our academy could well be Abied (if you include him in our academy) in a few years. Sammy or Ferguson if he gets a fair crack of the whip….Vuckic maybe if he could stay fit for more than 1 hour at a time

Yeah Remi I forgot about him and at 16 and being in the reserves he must be pretty good.
Don`t get me wrong we do have very good young players just every so often that 1 comes along.
Yeah jj Hooper does look a good prospect as does Campbell, it was Campbell that won MVP at the Nike Cup there has been alot of stars to win that.

Lol I was going to say Abied but you know what alot of guys would say straight away we signed him from Lens, so couldn`t be assed to mention him.
Vuckic I`m undecided on how good he can be when i`ve watched him I have never been that impressed also as you say he is made of glass and therefore how much will injuries damage his progress.

Yeah Abied is a dodgy one but he is now in our academy however he learnt mainly from Lens its a difficult one to call. If he becomes great in 2 years I claim it as our influence anything before then its probably Lens who did the hard work
Vuckic I think looks quite classy when on the ball but never seems to be fit, has been touted for years but always seems to fall apart. If he stays fit he could well come through and make a difference

Well it was out a few months ago that Ferguson wanted to change to the Republic squad but nothing was official so he might be just hedging his bets…hope thats wrong though and its just a miscommunication because he would go down in my estimations if thats true

I see, well, hopefully the coaches are telling him what to do. Or pushing him to at least talk to the U-21 manager. Can’t just ignore a thing like that, it’ll ruin his future with that manager. Will prob never get a call up again if thats the attitude.

Comment #25I like Vuckic, he looks so composed on the ball and has a decent eye for a pass. Your right that he picks up injuries a little too often, but hopefully he is past that part in his career and can now focus on being a tank of a player for NUFC
Talking about being made of glass, look at James Vaughan?
Norwich bought him from Everton, and he is out for the season with a knackered knee after making 2-3 appearances for them in the prem. Poor bugger, only young as well.
Abeid looks pretty special like, I think he will be breaking through the first team next season,

Thats just my opinion though and I hope its wrong. I really like Ferguson and I hope he isnt just being a dick about it. He should just man up and drop the squad or agree to play for them either way ignoring the issue is very childish
Ah well I hope its resolved quickly now that its been made public

Comment #28@ Dannyo, Possibly, would rather Gosling in truth because he has played in the prem before, so is familiar with the speed of play, but also because I do not think Abeid could handle the physicality of the prem and will be worn out within 40 mins just like wor Sammy, who also looks superb at the moment.

Yeah, who knows really, Tiote has a good chance to go far in the ACN. We have 3 players who’s well capable of that position in Gosling, Abeid and Guthrie.
Coincidently, i’m guessing on Abeid to take the job, you would rather have Gosling and WWJBD thinks Guthrie will take it.
Discuss, lol!!

Comment #32having 3 players trying to prove themselves for the 1 spot suits me!
I actually reckon Guthrie would do a good job in the current system. He is technically very decent and does the simple things well – he can do his job and leave the clever balls to HBA and Cabaye.
He has a good engione too – I think he floundered a bit in the old style of play as he doesnt have Joeys range, or Nolans knack for poaching goals

Oct 6, 2011 at 5:25 PM
Comment #33Haha I would prefer it to be Gosling but Guthrie has been given the nod over Abied and Gosling all season thus far so Pardew rates him…plus tbf to Guthrie the style of play now will fit him better
But who knows if Gosling goes on loan and he comes back firing or if Abied storms the reserves then maybe him or hell fatty could buy us a CDM in January. Or Cabaye could play deeper and Vuckic or HBA could play the more forward thinking CM….it was far easier last year when we didnt have options haha

Comment #34Abeid could well be the man to fill in for tiote. TBH i totally forgot about him being a cm. From what i have seen and heard about him this year i reckon he will be staking a good claim for that spot. Guthrie is the man with the cm spot on the bench atm but will probably be injured by jan if he plays 3 games in a row.

U are right? I look at your nickname and think no further, lol 😉
@WWJBD
Ye, well, it seems Gosling isn’t finding his sharpness just yet, i hope he does so soon, and Guthrie is obviously there and performing well for the reserves, but so is Gosling, thats why i find this a bit odd.
If Abeid can continue to get the nod in cupgames and stuff like this, i think he may quickly rise in favor.
But hey, i’m not Pards!

Comment #36@ WWJBD haha yeah I know you could basically name the line up for the next 3 months and get it right providing there were no injuries or suspensions. But like Drongo said, having 3 players battling it out over 1 position cannot be a bad thing, it will only bring out the best in them.
Having thought about it for a few minutes, Guthrie has more experience in this team and knows his way around the pitch better than Gosling or Abeid. He does like putting a few passes in as well, he is the English Cabaye, but without the crazy 60 yard passes. Remember the 3-3 draw with West Brom last season, Guthrie played out of his skin and had 2 stinging shots that would have went in if he did not shoot strait to the keeper.
The only thing that stops me from picking Guthrie is his consistency, he is either really good or really crap, there is no middle ground in his performances.

Comment #37In all fairness the only reason I think Abied is doubtful to take Tiotes spot is because, imo, if he was being set up to do that he would be gradually getting introduced into the team now to have him ready for January or he would be sent away on loan
I also doubt he will feature in the Cup games now reckon Pards will stick a near full starting 11 against Blackburn but who knows really haha

Haha yeah was easy
Krul
Simmo Willo Colo Jose
Barton Nolan Tiote Guti
Shola Lovenkrands
See how easy was that 😀 We have a harder job guessing now a days.
I fully agree with your evaluation of Guthrie as well, sticks in a performance like that however he played for the reserves a month before that and was the worst player on the pitch by all accounts….standard NUFC player some would say haha

Comment #39Having 3 young players competing to be a backup midfielder for us shows how far we have progressed in the last 2 seasons! Personally I think Guthrie will get his chance in the next cup game with Abeid to replace him at around 60 minutes. I think Gosling has fallen off the pace a bit and really needs to be sent out on loan to get a good run of games. Then we should see Abeid and Gosling go head to head for a spot in the team. And we haven’t even mentioned Vuckic. If only he can stay fit he could be right in there as well. I still think Vuckic should be tried in the hole behind the main striker. He has great size and is composed around goal.

Yeah, i want to see allot more of Vuckic than i have. I always thought he was an ACM, playing in the hole behind a striker.
Haven’t seen as much as i want from him, and it could be a while until we do still…
He’s injury free now, but i know he has been training with the others even with a broken wrist, so his fitness shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
