Newcastle After Top Young Ivorian Striker

There was news this morning that Newcastle were maintaining their interest in Blackburn Rover’s Junior Houlitt.

Wilfired Zaha – Newcastle interested in young Ivorian

And news in the Evening Chronicle today that Newcastle are watching Crystal Palace teenager Wilfried Zaha.

The 18 year old can play striker or withdrawn striker, and the lad is just 18 years old, but has already played for Palace 57 times with 5 goals and 10 assists.

The news is that Newcastle have been busy since August pursuing transfer targets, both at the senior level and for youngsters like Wilfried.

And we wouldn’t be surprised if the club brought in a number of new players in January,  to strengthen the squad so Newcastle can then push on for a Europa Cup place for next season.

Palace went into administration in January of last year, and the London club would obviously consider good offers for any of their players at the moment.

The 18-year-old Ivory Coast born forward was Palace’s 2011 Young Player of the Year,  and the news is that he is also interesting Stoke City and Liverpool.

But Newcastle are becoming a top club for youngsters these days, and the Magpies will do very well if they decide to go after the 18 year-old, who is said to be valued at £3.5M by The Eagles.

The youngster has already scored 5 goals and 5 assists this season in 13 appearances for Crystal Palace, and while he obviously is still developing, he looks a top talent for his age.

Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas.

He has already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February, and he made his debut for Crystal Palace at home to Cardiff City in March of 2010 when he was just 17.

Of course Newcastle already have Ivorian Cheick Tiote on their books, and Cheick would certainly help the 5’10” tall youngster settle down on Tyneside,  if Newcastle make a move for the youngster, who turns 19 next month.

It’s very good that Newcastle are keeping a look out for top young talent to bring to the club, since it can save them millions and millions of pounds in the future.

As much as i would love to see hoilett at the toon there is no point in wasteing muni when we could have are own in lualua who imo shoulda been given the chance along time ago an b4 sammy

An seriozly a crystal palace striker when we have nile ranger sitting there . .ok he fcukd up but i bet he has way more quality than this guy an given time to mature surley he will wise up

Ya know i was just waiting until we were linked with him.

Every time i see palace on carlin cup or football league highlights he seems to score.

Typical toon target….someone who has got alot of games.for.his age.

My dad and brother are palace fans so I keep a bit of an eye on how there doing etc and went and watched the west ham game the saturday before last. This lad looks like he’s got a fair bit of promise about him and would happily have him come to Newcastle and develop even more. Looks confident in picking the ball up and beating his man and strong on the ball when he wants to be.

    I say sign him up!

On another note, they have a 16/17 year old who’s now broken into their first team called Jonathan Williams who looked really good and has just signed a new deal because of his recent run of form.

Crystal Palace fan here (who also happens to have a passing interest in you lot). Some things to know.

1 – Palace are debt free and after coming out of admin, reunited the stadium to the team. The current owners are Palace fans and worth over a billion combined. They want to run Palace in a fiscally sound way to avoid a future repeat of the mess that put us in admin to begin with. as a result, there is no fiscal reason forcing us to sell any player.

2 – Zaha signed a long term deal and will cost you (or any one else) a pretty penny.

3 – He best plays as one of the wide players in a 433; he’s not strong enough to play up front on his own. Similar to Ben Arfa in style of play.
