There was news this morning that Newcastle were maintaining their interest in Blackburn Rover’s Junior Houlitt.
Wilfired Zaha – Newcastle interested in young Ivorian
And news in the Evening Chronicle today that Newcastle are watching Crystal Palace teenager Wilfried Zaha.
The 18 year old can play striker or withdrawn striker, and the lad is just 18 years old, but has already played for Palace 57 times with 5 goals and 10 assists.
The news is that Newcastle have been busy since August pursuing transfer targets, both at the senior level and for youngsters like Wilfried.
And we wouldn’t be surprised if the club brought in a number of new players in January, to strengthen the squad so Newcastle can then push on for a Europa Cup place for next season.
Palace went into administration in January of last year, and the London club would obviously consider good offers for any of their players at the moment.
The 18-year-old Ivory Coast born forward was Palace’s 2011 Young Player of the Year, and the news is that he is also interesting Stoke City and Liverpool.
But Newcastle are becoming a top club for youngsters these days, and the Magpies will do very well if they decide to go after the 18 year-old, who is said to be valued at £3.5M by The Eagles.
The youngster has already scored 5 goals and 5 assists this season in 13 appearances for Crystal Palace, and while he obviously is still developing, he looks a top talent for his age.
Wilfried was born in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in 1992 and started his career at his home town club ASEC Mimosas.
He has already represented the England U19 side twice, making his debut against Germany last February, and he made his debut for Crystal Palace at home to Cardiff City in March of 2010 when he was just 17.
Of course Newcastle already have Ivorian Cheick Tiote on their books, and Cheick would certainly help the 5’10” tall youngster settle down on Tyneside, if Newcastle make a move for the youngster, who turns 19 next month.
It’s very good that Newcastle are keeping a look out for top young talent to bring to the club, since it can save them millions and millions of pounds in the future.
