Metro is reporting that Newcastle may be interested in Marvin Martin.
Marvin Martin – can also play with his eyes closed
It’s certainly not the first time Newcastle have been linked with Martin, and it was the Sochaux play-maker who replaced Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye for France, in the second half of both the recent Euro 12 qualifying games.
The 23 year-old has been at Sochaux since 2008, and he has played 117 times with 10 goals and 26 assists, and he has 7 caps already for the full French side with two goals and two assists.
Arsenal are also interested in the player (he must be French) and the report suggests Newcastle may go after the 23 year-old in the summer.
Manchester United have also been linked with the play-maker, but Newcastle would still have a decent chance of attracting the youngster to Tyneside, if they decide to go after him.
The Sunday Sun has already reported that Newcastle Chief Scout Graham Carr has been regularly watching the player at Sochaux, but it would seem that the least of Newcastle’s problems right now is in midfield.
The Paris-born Martin has been a top performer for Sochaux over the last three seasons, and with Newcastle having watched his Sochaux team mate Modibo Maiga several times, they could not have failed to be impressed with the very skillful midfielder.
Maybe Newcastle could do a deal with Sochaux, for both Martin and Maiga, but of course Newcastle have already had some troubles negotiating with Sochaux, who reported Newcastle to FIFA in August, for what they thought was an illegal approach for Maiga.
Maiga also still seems to be the top striker target for Newcastle in January, and maybe if the club are successful in getting Maiga in January, they could bring in his team- mate Marvin Martin to join him next summer.
