Pardew Feels So Sorry For Sylvain Marveaux And Dan Gosling

Jonas Gutierrez has been in the form of his life this season, and that’s meant that players like Sylvain Marveaux have hardly had a look in at Newcastle this season.

Sylvain Marveaux – waiting for his chance

That’s always a challenge for amanager when there is a strong squad at the club, because only 11 players can ever start the game, and only 14 can ever play in one game.

At the moment,  Newcastle have some top players who cannot even make the match day squad of 18, never mind the starting eleven..

Alan Pardew has talked about the wonderful form of Jonas Gutierrez this season, and laments that has meant that Dan Gosling and Sylvain, as just tow example haven’t had much playing time this season.

Here’s what Alan said about Gutierrez, who even seems to be improving this season:

“Jonas is in some of the best form I’ve seen from him.”  “Sometimes when players sign contracts, they just come off the pedal a little bit.

“Jonas has gone the other way. I didn’t sign him, so maybe he’s got a little bit of belief that the manager here loves him and wants him to play well.”

We also are hoping we’ll hear some good news shortly that Colo has also signed an extension to his contract, to stay on Tyneside. That news would be very well received by Newcastle fans.

Pardew talked about Sylvain and Dan today to the local Newcastle press:

“I feel so sorry for Sylvain and Dan Gosling at the minute, and one or two others.”  “They’ve worked really hard, and haven’t got a sniff.”

“I want to keep winning games, but obviously I would love to play them at some point.”  “Of the four midfield players, Jonas was the best.”

Of course if ever Newcastle are going to have another top four side, the squad will have to be a lot stronger than it is at the moment, which means very good players will not start.

But one way to correct that is for Newcastle to get back into Europe so we start to play over 60 games a season, and that will allow Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, to use a lot more of his squad.

Maybe next season?

Obertan can be the new Henry…. He started out as a winger and people siad he couldn’t cut it in the premiership!! Then Arsene put him up front and he turned into the one of the worlds best!

    Obertan dribbles like him anyway!

Simple, dont drop Jonas for Marveaux, drop Oba and move Jonas to the right with Raylor. Then Santon and Marveaux to provide a deadly left side partnership!

Obertan a.k.a the Boumsong for the mid’s… he’s useless. I hope Padew to understand this very soon on the painless for the team way.

Gosling should get his chance at the latest in Jan when Tiote goes on his jollies. Marv should be getting games or atleast cameos by now imo.

Jonas is on fire, Cabaye and Tiote are two key reasons why we have such a great defensive record and such a good start to the season. Then theres Obertan…..so who should be making way so Marv can have a crack?

Howay Obertan isnt that bad. He has pace, decent skills on the ball and drags defenders out of position. His decision making is poor though….kind of sounds like a winger we sold during the summer to me

I wouldn’t panic if I were either of them. The suspensions, injuries, and of course the ANC mean they will both get plenty of pitch time in the coming months. The real shame will come when the players that are injured come back to find themselves overlooked in favour of an established midfield partnership. I’m sure it will all even out over the season though.

… God dam squad being to damn good to use good back ups… never would of thought the day would come when our midfield is just too good. Ah well. We all know Gosling is probably gonna play when tiote goes away in Jan, and cabaye will probably want a rest at some point.

He have only a pace. Where did you see his skills, he doesn’t have any tricks… Marveaux has played well against Bolton’s reserves according Carver, Ryder and couple more sources, why he didn’t start? We bought Perch because of Calderwood, Elliot is because he work with Pardew in Charlton. Answer me this – who and where watched Obertan before we buy him? Pardew is a good friend with SAF… Get yourself to the conclusion why we bought it. Obertan in the most of the matches for manure came on from the bench, or play in the line up against some mediocre tams. I don’t want transfers like those. Yes, he isnt bad as Boumsong, but is close, it’s about time to show it… and he’s wasting of space.

Jesus hw can yous sit an say this sh it about obertoon

he bearly got any games at man u for 2 years give him time to get back into it

he is playing better than what you would expect from some1 who has bearly playd for 2years

look at marveaux he bearly played for 1 season an cant even get a game

i say within the next 5 games we will start to see the real obertan once he settles in..just picture his blistering speed an skill beating last defenders he will tear any team apart

as for when tiote go’s i think it would be stupit to play gosling an cabaye 2 att mid’s when we could play guthrie who can cover an play cdm

Sorry like spitfire_ but I think you are being very harsh on Obertan (and I dont even rate him particularly highly) but he clearly does have decent skills with the ball step overs and tricks etc. I also dont think we bought him purely because Pardew is friends with SAF we dont know who we have watched in all fairness.

He played well for Bordeaux prior to Man Utd and its a rather big step up so judging him for not being a Utd starter is over the top.

I agree Marv or HBA should be in his spot but he just isnt as bad as you are implying there mate, well imo he isnt

i have to agree with kevymartins. obertan has done great i think. i would rather have him than barton on the right, just my opinion. in fact hes the best right winger we have had in ages. i was at the forest game and he did great.

Spitfire > the biggest (and imo only) problem with Obertan is his end product. He seems to panick after he has done all the hard work. A bit like Jonas the past couple of seasons. But look at Jonas now, improved dramatically this year. So, Obertan is quicker than Jonas, has more technique, therefore if he calms down and sorts out his end product the the pottential is massive!

Clearly not allot of people rate Obertan, but he’s certainly better than what Wayne was. He had a decent shot on goal even on Sunday as well.
It means his confidence is rising, he obviously is a confidence player, and those players needs time. I think the skill is there, he just needs the balls to use it.
When he starts being able to pass defenders and dribble his way passed, hopefully he’ll unlock his potential.
But as WWJBD, i dont rate him highly either, 8 starts should really be enough to be able to get into gear.
But hey, allot of young players take time to bed in to top flight football.
We are top 4 atm, with him starting all matches. It’s not that wrong.

Obertan is the punch bag of the week. I’m not his biggest fan to be honest, I’d prefer an intelligent winger like solano/marveaux on the wing, as opposed to the head down, athlete type. But his performances have been pretty lively, if lacking that final ball.

To be honest, we’re all spoiling to see Arfa and marveuax get a start – this could be the game.. arfa and marveaux in for Best and Ober I’d say.

Anyone else see Obertan (and Tiote) keeping pace with Bale when Bale opened up the afterburners late into the game on Sun??

No doubt in my mind Obertan is a good player with bags of pace, but he is young. that’s the only problem, Experience… give him time lads

I cant say Obertan has impressed me much. He has done some decent things, but he doesnt seem to beat his man much, and cross the ball, given his pace. Tracks back well. Good skills, especially short passing . Moves well. In some ways he looks more like a box to box midfielder than a winger?

I really dont understand all this negativity towards Obertan. I think he adds quite a lot to the team. I realise he misplaces a lot of passes and he often doesnt run when he should or runs himself into a hole and loses the ball. But he also keeps the opposition on their feet. Even though he hasnt lead to many goals he does run at the opposition and that shakes them up a bit. Wears them out and breaks them down.

He isnt playing any poorer than Jonas cdid at times last season. That said i think Marveaux needs his chance. Bt maybe there is something we dont know. Maybe the backroom staff dont think Marveaux is ready for it yet.

On paper we should smoke Wigan but I worry that the team may get a bit complacent. I say start with the same and if we are ahead by 2 by half time experiment.

Definitely give decent second half runs to Ben Arfa, and Marveaux. But i dont understand why Pardew keeps subbing Benny for Ba. Surely on recent performance it should be Benny for Best. Plus i just think Benny and Ba would work better together

well said mate. Remember reading an interview with Fergie that said Obertan definitely has the potential and is by no means a United reject. He just wasnt gonna break through with the competition at United. He actually said that Obertan was leaving because he was too good to sit in the reserves. I think a lot of people are forgetting that this is the first time he has recieved regular playing time. He has already played more than he did last season for United and the league has just begun.
