Jonas Gutierrez has been in the form of his life this season, and that’s meant that players like Sylvain Marveaux have hardly had a look in at Newcastle this season.
Sylvain Marveaux – waiting for his chance
That’s always a challenge for amanager when there is a strong squad at the club, because only 11 players can ever start the game, and only 14 can ever play in one game.
At the moment, Newcastle have some top players who cannot even make the match day squad of 18, never mind the starting eleven..
Alan Pardew has talked about the wonderful form of Jonas Gutierrez this season, and laments that has meant that Dan Gosling and Sylvain, as just tow example haven’t had much playing time this season.
Here’s what Alan said about Gutierrez, who even seems to be improving this season:
“Jonas is in some of the best form I’ve seen from him.” “Sometimes when players sign contracts, they just come off the pedal a little bit.
“Jonas has gone the other way. I didn’t sign him, so maybe he’s got a little bit of belief that the manager here loves him and wants him to play well.”
We also are hoping we’ll hear some good news shortly that Colo has also signed an extension to his contract, to stay on Tyneside. That news would be very well received by Newcastle fans.
Pardew talked about Sylvain and Dan today to the local Newcastle press:
“I feel so sorry for Sylvain and Dan Gosling at the minute, and one or two others.” “They’ve worked really hard, and haven’t got a sniff.”
“I want to keep winning games, but obviously I would love to play them at some point.” “Of the four midfield players, Jonas was the best.”
Of course if ever Newcastle are going to have another top four side, the squad will have to be a lot stronger than it is at the moment, which means very good players will not start.
But one way to correct that is for Newcastle to get back into Europe so we start to play over 60 games a season, and that will allow Newcastle manager Alan Pardew, to use a lot more of his squad.
Maybe next season?
