Alan Shearer scored 206 goals in 404 appearances for Newcastle United, and in his career scored 379 goals in 733 total appearances. What a player.
Alan Shearer – great start to the season by Newcastle
Add to that 60 appearances for England and Alan Shearer was one of the greatest footballers Newcastle has ever produced.
Of course Alan still lives in the Newcastle area and has been a Newcastle supporter all his life and he seems very impressed with the start his team has made this season, just like the rest of us.
Newcastle showed on Sunday not only that they are a good side, in getting a 2-2 draw at home to Spurs, but the are also very resilient, have tremendous team spirit, and fight 100% for the Newcastle side, and it’s just terrific to see that.
Alan Shearer has come out and praised the work Alan Pardew has done at Newcastle in a short 10 months, and he had he has this to say to GOAL today:
“Alan Pardew deserves a lot of credit for the way he has got the team playing, because it has been a great start to the season and as the Newcastle manager he should be praised for that,”
“It was a difficult summer but now there is clearly a very good spirit and resilience in the team which is vital, they are defending well as a team, there is a good balance in midfield, they are well organised and their strikers are scoring goals and Alan should be credited for that.”
“He has moulded them into a solid unit who can play good, fast-paced stuff as well but in terms of results, they are still undefeated which is impressive.” “There is a real energy and enthusiasm about them. “
“They have become very difficult to beat because there is a lot of never-say-die attitude, self-belief and togetherness in the side so things are looking good at the moment and I hope they keep building on it.”
“They have made a very good start to the season and I really hope that it carries on for as long as possible,”“It has surprised everyone that they are sitting in fourth position but confidence is sky-high and long may that continue. ”
“With the team Harry Redknapp has assembled Tottenham was always a going to be a big test and they have another chance to get points on the board when Wigan come to St James’ Park on Saturday before there is a tough run of games against Stoke, Everton, the Manchester clubs and Chelsea.”
“That will be a difficult period but in the end I would expect them to finish seventh or maybe eight which would be an excellent achievement and that would represent progress from last season when they finished 12th so things should be looking good.”
Alan’s right about the upcoming tough games, and that’s another reason why we must try to take all 3 points at home to Wigan on Saturday afternoon.
After the Wigan game, Newcastle have two away games, at Blackburn in the 4th round of the Carling Cup, and then on the following Monday the lads are away to Stoke City.
Then a home game against Everton is followed by away trips to the two Manchester clubs, followed by a home game against Chelsea.
That’s a very tough schedule, but the lads may keep surprising us too.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2Beat Wigan, Stoke and Everton (confidence is key) then pray for a draw or two against Man U, Man C and Chelsea then pray the squad stays fit during the 9 games in December.
All goes to plan we should still be right up there in January to make us an attractive option to potential signings.

Comment #3At the end of the day we are a lot higher than we thought we would be, i still think we might surprise some people in the next few games. It will be difficult but we are much more organised and each player wants to play for this club.
We should have beaten the spuds with that late chance, just makes the Wigan game more important now- it wont be an easy game but would expect 3 points and to win by a couple of goals. HBA needs 90 mins imo

Comment #4Right lets be honest… look at Norwich against Man Utd, exposed them greatly. Man Utd are deadly on the attack, they have match winners in split seconds (rooney against us few years ago, bitching to the ref, turns and boom scores that worldy) and then heads can drop and momentum steam rolls us.
Man City look deadly, you see there squad, wow, unreal. This will be the hardest game I think. But Chelsea is winnable, if we put Tiote on Mata when we are half way there.
I think we’ll loose to Man City, Draw Man Utd and could win against Chelsea.

Comment #5The Wigan/Stoke/Everton games are far, far more important for where Newcastle United finish the season than the run against the top three. Remember Spurs were thrashed by the Manchester clubs and bounced back.

Comment #6Shearer has changed his tune since the summer when he forecast all doom and gloom having little faith in the manager, the lack of summer signings, loss of key players and the hopeless board.
He’s as good a pundit as he was as a manager.

Comment #7Those of us old enough to remember forest coming up under Clough and Taylor can maybe feel that the current toon side can possibly emulate the same results – teamwork and discipline did and still can upset superstars who are only at their superclubs for the dosh. If, and it’s a big if, Ashley seizes the opportunity to fill the gaps as a squad in January who knows what could happen?

F@ck off and leave Shearer alone. Some things are sacred; he is one of them!

Comment #9@Slank – Shearer is one of us. he’s a fan now he doesn’t play for us anymore. He feels the same as all us guys having doubts on this season.. I felt a little doubt but always behind my team…
Shearer was just as concerned as we were! nothing wrongabout that.
@moonraker – agree.. 😉

Comment #10Should appoint Shearer as a striker coach like Ferdinand is for Spurs. Or give him an ambassador role at the club working under Peter Beardsley recruiting local talent, doing training sessions at local boys clubs and schools, take the club into the community wii our local legends.
Give Gazza a similar role teaching skills, the bloke needs a purpose to keep him oot of trouble, he may as well be of use to us being a Geordie and a fan of the club.

Comment #11We will beat Blackburn, Wigan, Stoke, Everton – SJP is NOT a good place to be a visitor!!
Draws against Shitty & Manure will be a hell of an achievement, but “Doable”!!
After that I think a home win against Chelski wouldn’t be that much of a shock!!
Onwards and upwards, ‘mon the TOOOOOOOOOOON
