Wigan have lost their last five league games on the trot.
Demba Ba and Leon Best
Can they get the goals tomorrow?
And we have to hope that tomorrow is not a lucky day for the Latics, and that the stats show they have lost their last six league games by 5:00pm tomorrow afternoon.
Wigan are second bottom of the league with just 5 points from their eight league games, and they have just one point from their four games away this season so far, and have scored only one goal on the road, with eight goals conceded.
But they are still a disciplined side, who will give it everything they have tomorrow, and they sometimes play way above themselves, and again we hope that will not be tomorrow.
As we said earlier in the week, tomorrow’s game will be a different kind of test for Newcastle and we will learn if the players can start and finish the game with the same intensity they showed against Spurs on Sunday afternoon, against a weaker side.
Leon Best is due a goal, but his partner Demba Ba cannot seem to stop scoring them, and in the last three games he has 5 goals, but the two lads are also starting to form an understanding up front, and the Wigan defense is not one of their strong points.
And Wigan were 2-0- up at half time in the same fixture last season, when Charles N’Zogbia scored twice, and somehow out-jumped Mike Williamson for one of the goals, which he headed home in style, and Mike’s 6’4″ tall compared to Charles being just over 5’7.”
Newcastle came back strongly in the second half in that game, and goals from Shola Ameobi after 70 minutes, and then an injury time equalizer from Coloccini rescued the game for the Magpies.
Leon Best remembers that game:
“Wigan nearly beat us last year when they came here, and there are no easy games,” “They’ve got good players but we just need to get the three points for ourselves.”
“I’m delighted for Demba to be scoring because as a pair we’re playing well and when you’re not scoring, it’s just as well your strike partner is,”
“And hopefully when Demba’s not scoring, I can nick in there and score my own fair few and do it for the team.”
Best has got three goals so far this season, and with an energetic performance tomorrow afternoon, he could add to that total, and Demba Ba seems to be able to score at any time.
And we’re still waiting for that first goal from French International midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who has gone close a few times this season.
But the main thing we want to see from Newcastle tomorrow afternoon, is another all-out and committed performance, and if they can do that, surely we can get all 3 points?
Comments welcome.

I was at that game if I remember correctly Perch was our RB at the time and Zoggy ran rings around him the whole game. Saying that we were poor.
Left singing Colo’s name though felt like a win rather than a draw

We HAVE to absolutely definitivly crush Wigan beyond belief. Clobber, smash, destroy and whatnot.
Yeye, we can be as “realistic” as we want, still have to blow em away like a baby mowing down chess pawns on a board.

9 yorkshireToon // Oct 21, 2011 at 9:45 PM
i’m actually more nervous this season about these sort of games because i actually hope and expect us to get something now!
last season i almost expected us to lose to the likes of wigan so i guess it’s a good thing but i don’t like the nerves!
10 WWJBD // Oct 21, 2011 at 9:46 PM
I am worried that the ‘other’ NUFC turn up tomorrow or we go a goal up and switch off (ala Wolves second half) but I am hopeful that we break our under performing against smaller opposition ways tomorrow
11 yorkshireToon // Oct 21, 2011 at 9:53 PM
i don’t think we are even the same team as last season with the likes of cabaye, obertan and ba, we play completely different football and i’m that confident i put 15 quid on us to win has to be a sure thing
12 Dannyo // Oct 21, 2011 at 9:55 PM
@WWJBD
Lol, i say that so confident, but i fear the same as u. Never take anything for granted, but still.
Won’t happen mate
In any way u look at it, player for player, statistically, historically, we have to beat em, just no other way around it.
I just can’t see it ending up any other way, i can’t, i refuse to, i won’t have it.

Dannyo
All very true mate but the proof will be tomorrow at 5 when we are all smiling or all rather disappointed
14 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Oct 21, 2011 at 10:10 PM
Come on WWJBD let your cautiously optimistic side out lol
15 WWJBD // Oct 21, 2011 at 10:14 PM
Haha I have I think we will win 3-1 but NUFC always underperform against lower value opponents and you dont get much lower than Wigan
16 WWJBD // Oct 21, 2011 at 10:14 PM

If arfa is gonna b used as a withdrawn striker i think he has 2 play wit best coz ba plays far 2 deep for that 2 work i read people sayin best was poor against the spuds but for most of the game he was playin as a lone striker n he worked hard n held up n controlled the ball well 8 think it shud b him n ba 2mora and the goals shud flow (hopefully)
19 manxpie // Oct 21, 2011 at 10:46 PM
Plus i hav 2 say ober infuriated me on sunday n i actually think he’d b better on the left i think he’d b better leggin it down that wing n cutting in on his right peg plus his only assist this season (i think) has been from that side but i suppose time will tell
20 manxpie // Oct 21, 2011 at 10:48 PM

Who’s there?
22 GeordieDan // Oct 21, 2011 at 11:08 PM
Surprised nobody’s mentioned it yet but what price for a Ryan Taylor free kick special(s) against his old club?
Would be just a little bit sweet to see him smash 1 or 2 past their 36/37 supporters that make it up to St James’ tomorrow afternoon.
They struggle to get 20k supporters for a home game ffs.
A team that belongs in the Championship or worse for all eternity, as do the Smoggies, Hull and Reading et al,
Surely the crappest teams ever to (dis)grace the Prem?
Any others I’ve missed?

Not that am biased or owt of course.
